Oh my gosh, I can't believe you read my comment asking you to stop calling yourself lazy. 🥺 I nearly cried watching this and hearing you talk about what I said and your reflections on it -- I'm so glad it encouraged you to stop and think a little more about the terms you use for yourself. 💗 I love your channel so much, it always provides so much comfort to me in difficult times like Covid and now in the beginning of grad school. You're wonderful, Maddie!!

Madeleine you earned the life you live with hard work. Sometimes people don’t understand what it takes to get there.

Loved this vlog! Resting is not “doing nothing.” It is productive in it’s own way & necessary.

Never feel guilty about listening to your body. If you feel like resting it’s because your body is working hard fixing you. Lovely cake!

Love your Vlogmas Maddie & your approach to life ❤ I just gave birth to my first baby boy who is 10 days old and I’m enjoying watching your daily videos whilst recovering at home with him and learning how to be a mum. I live in Australia but I can’t wait to visit Cornwall one day, it looks like a dream ❤

Perfect watching you today lying on the sofa with a cold and your dog…..as i am lying on my sofa with a cold and my dog feeling sorry for myself. It was nice to feel like someone was keeping me company.

thank you for the reminder of the importance of resting, maddie. it's something i find so incredibly difficult and often tell myself i don't deserve to do, but that's simply not true. sending you lots of love and hoping your cold eases up soon 💛 thank you for your vlogmas series so far and all the cosy warmth it's brought

So sorry you aren't feeling well. It's best to take it easy. I agree, please don't label yourself lazy. We don't always need to be on the go. Perfection is a death knell to creativity. Give yourself grace. Take care. ❤

I understand about being ill and enjoying the down time. I have recently started to alter how I do the holidays. When someone asks if they can bring something, I say just bring low expectations. I am tired of over doing everything and I just want to enjoy my family.

I’m the same. I always feel I need to do all the hosting and make sure everyone has a wonderful time but it’s at my own detriment. I’m stressed , worn out and spend far too much. This year I am making big changes as I know I can’t just keep it up emotionally and financially. For the first time ever we are having our Christmas lunch in a lovely old pub. No shopping, queuing, no spending hours planning menus especially as I have vegans, coeliacs and vegetarians as well as meat eaters to cater for. It’s all my own fault trying to be thoughtful for others where as nobody else bothers except me. NO MORE! It’s time for boundaries and a simpler life for me.

I binge watched Black Doves the other evening, and it was absolutely wonderful! While I like Keira Knightly, I love Ben Whishaw- he was fantastic in this! Enjoy. Totally agree with you about the capitalistic work ethic that inspires guilt, by the way, which is what it is intended to do. Hope you are feeling better soon, but lie on the couch and do nothing as long as you want.

I can totally relate to feeling guilty for resting or not doing enough. After hearing Alex's perspective, it made me think maybe it's more something women do. I wonder if that's true. I'm constantly beating myself up for not getting enough done in a day. I was doing it right before I started watching this video and I was in a bit of a panic about how much I still needed to accomplish this weekend. This vlog made me really think about how unproductive it is to have those thoughts. Going forward I'm going to try to focus on what I have accomplished each day instead of what I haven't. Wish me luck!

Hope you feel better soon! Horrid when you feel ill, but soup and sleep best thing! Totally resonate with the perfectionist convo - I’m same and my own worst critic. It always helps to look at a different perspective of why you do things, nice someone pointed that out to you, as it’s so true ❤

I completely understand the idea of setting crazy daily goals. I do it daily. I make these huge lists that are impossible especially because I have lupus and every day my abilities are somewhat ruled by this illness. I often find myself saying I'm behind and even feeling like I'm failing. At the end of my day I tell myself I did all I could and it is good enough.

I have so many thoughts: 1. Maybe because you work for yourself, you feel the need to be productive. I work for a company (9 to 6) and my time does not equal money, cause I earn nothing on the weekends 🙂 so I don’t need to do anything then (even the things I like). 2. When I have too much going on I usually get sick. It’s my body’s way of telling me to take a vacation. 3. I like being sick 😅 Even if I have just a little bit of temperature, I skip work, lay in bed all day, cook nothing, clean nothing, feel no guilt about it (cause I finally have an excuse to do nothing). 4. Never have I thought that being lazy is bad. Cats are lazy all day and they seem fine 😂 Being lazy is a privilege one should enjoy.

Tip: I cut my hard winter squash using a big knife and a rubber mallet. You just position the knife and strike it with the mallet several times. It does not damage the knife and it is SO much easier.

We are made to have a day of rest.❤it’s part of the Ten Commandments .

It's as if you want to demonstrate you can do a lot of things to feel valued? Just an opinion. Relaxation is key for overall health cause always doing things leads you to burn out and over time all sort of diseases. You are wonderful just for being you.
