Actually this version is very much altered and incomplete. Mahabali was of course a good daitya, but he goes on to conquer devaloka and the devataa like indra, surya chandra etc were ruled by mahabali. There was imbalance in creation and on top of it mahabalis "ahankar" grew so much. That is the reason for Vamana Avatar. To restore balance and to humble mahabali and make him realise his mistake. It is not possible that Vishnu takes an Avatar without valid reason, just to pacify devatas. Note: Those are interested in source please refer to Puranas. Like many of us even I have heard the story from parents are grand parents.

Yes. During this yagya Vamana arrived. When mahabali tried to serve his guest Vamana by offering water, shukracharya tried to stop this by blocking the vessel( in Malayalam Kindi). Vamana understand this and using darbha, he poked the vessel mouth. This shukracharya lost his one eye.

Every Malayali celebrate Onam. It is our official festival. Not only Christians, Muslims and every Malayalis celebrates Onam. Every one eat onam sadhya. Just serach onam celebration in kerala colleges you can see that.

@@pranavnair2616 We don't mourn his defeat, people in Kerala actually celebrates onam by making floral patterns on the ground and having boat races and mahabeli is believed to come back from the underworld to see his subjects once again. Lord vishnu gave him a promise for him to see his subjects once every year. The main reason he was sent below was to show his devotion to the God and his humility, I really don't think he was arrogant, the devas probably asked vishnu to do something about mahabeli because the people were more enamoured with him than the Gods, and they feared that they would lose their fame and got jealous of him. Onam promises the return of prosperity and well being to all, it is a day of celebration and spreading love to each other.
