Jeremy Hartwood's voice actor freakin' kills it. He sounds like a Vincent Price impersonator speaking through a pillow, but y'know.... you can still hear the Vincent Price-iness of his performance. Now I'm bummed that he never did VA for any game. He starred in _13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo,_ but never lent his voice to any game? Tsk, tsk - what kind of world do we live in? :P I love that little hop Carnby does when he leaves the mansion. It's so _LittleBigAdventure_ :) God, I miss Adeline Software, and uh, whatever they were called when they made _Alone in the Dark_ here - they did such weird, memorable stuff. Anyway, thanks for playing through this one! This is a tough game to pick up nowadays - I have it the AITD trilogy on GOG but it's far too rough for me. Anything pre- _Fear Effect_ or so is something I will happily leave to others ;) *QOTD:* Yeah, I think AITD is worth bringing back. It's combination of old-school literary-style horror, Lovecraftian strangeness and period piece adventure is something we see games like _Eternal Darkness,_ _The Sinking City_ and _Call of Cthulu_ try to capture even today. I mean, I guess if _Sinking City_ is good, the need for a new AITD becomes kinda pointless, but AITD wasn't the only game that attempted to execute that back in the day (just look at stuff like _Shadow of the Comet),_ and I'd like to see multiple games approach those same core tenets differently and do it well. I think THQN could put forth a good horror adventure game if they want to bring it back, so long as they understand it's not exactly _Resident Evil_ they should be aping, like the last few AITD's by Atari/Infogrames. You mention remastering the crappy reboot _(Inferno?),_ but personally I'm hoping they finish up the remake of THIS GAME that Eden Studios was working on much more recently. It seems pretty reasonable a production to restart and finish off, not too expensive, y'know? And it looks LOADS better than the 2008 ones or _Illumination,_ so my fingers are crossed that that's the least THQN will do with the series. Thanks for this. My older brother had this for our Mac and I tried to play it but I was too young to master the controls and gave up. Nice to finally see what it was all about. What sticks out to me is the influence on Eternal Darkness. Everyone talks about AitD's influence on Resident Evil and rightfully so considering that franchise's lasting impact, but Eternal Darkness is an underrated gem. Personally, it is my favorite GameCube game and favorite survival horror game. It's story is almost directly ripped from alone in the dark, it has a bunch of added historical segments, but looking at just the main protagonist's story: girl investigates family member's death ✓ she explores a creepy mansion ✓ finds out that the death was due to dark forces ✓ she finds out that those dark forces are actually under the house ✓ there is Lovecraftian city of evil under the mansion ✓ she destroys it and leaves the house with evil defeated. . . Or is it? ✓ So with that said, for the QotD, I say leave alone in the dark in the past and give me Eternal Darkness 2.

My answer is 'Hell yes!'. Seriously, with the resurgence of classic horror titles recently - and the general love for all thing Lovecraft - having a proper re-imagining of the franchise could work really well. Having said that, the new 'Call of Cthulhu' seems to be doing pretty much this, so we'll have that to tide us over.

As somebody currently going through the new Call of Cthulhu for review, I can say that I was thinking the exact same thing.

I want to say yes, I mean recently we have seen the revival of plenty of games that were either dead or lost their way.. Re7 comes to mind. So who knows maybe the series just needs a fresh start.

I have fond memories of this game. It was one of the first PC CD-Rom games I ever played and was the first one I ever saw in person as a tech demo in the Best Buy I went to. It was clunky but it came with it a certain charm I enjoyed. Never was able to beat it due to the bad controls and the many moments where you really had to memorize what was coming next, what to pick up and when to pick it up and where to go. It may be good to bring it back, BUT I think more people would want a Silent Hill game or even another Evil Within game than bringing back a franchise that never really took off. It was rebooted twice I think with bad results.

This channel should do a review of Grimvalor, for mobile. It’s a surprisingly good game, by a new studio, that deserves some exposure.

A long time ago I decided to draw the line at mobile games (since there are so many and no way for me to capture the footage). I would love to see it come to PC or a console, then I would definitely review it.

Never beat this back in the day but enjoyed it. Always felt it would have been scarier if the graphics weren't so clunky (My PC was crap too). Got into a stupid argument with a friend that said this game ripped off Resident Evil. If 7th guest and 11th hour can get rereleases on tablets this should be brought back too. THIS version, not that reboot that was nothing like this. A remaster on the order of Resident Evil remake would be pretty cool but pretty sure that won't happen.

Yes! I had a friend with a 3DO when I was a kid and the first game was pretty spooky for a 9 year-old. THQ Nordic has been pretty solid with their output, so I'd love to see what they do with the property (as long as they don't just remaster that crappy remake from a few years ago).

There's no way THQ will ever mess up the series as much as Atari did so I say go for it

I remember when the Panasonic three the old first came out. It came out almost identical to win the PlayStation came out. Everybody was telling me to get the PlayStation but there was a game that was on the display at Best Buy. And that game was Crash and Burn. I remember sitting there and playing that game and was a driving game where you could destroy your competition and they had live video of the people talking and I just fell in love with that gay man. Then after that I got a loan in the dark. Escape from Monster Manor. Then after that I got the PlayStation. And Indiana I sold the PlayStation and I kept the three-year-old for 18 years till I sold it. And it worked perfectly.

Any game that features a main character that conceals and carries a firearm has my vote. The voice acting in 1992/93 was phenomenal fir its day. You didn't get that kind of voice work back then from even the best triple A games...look at Resident Evil as an example. Addendum- The voice work of the main character not anyone else. Now I must go...and eat a Jill sandwich. ;)

Absolutely great game. I kind of prefer the underdog of game systems. They have great games that I've never seen on any of the system. One of them for the Panasonic was escape from Monster Manor. And another one for the Philips cd-i was burncycle. Which I actually still own

story breakdown? it lacks the entire chronology of pirates and slave owners this just vaguely recites outline of what protagonist did
@DefunctGames Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's the story breakdown of this game. Not the chronology of pirates and slave owners. Sounds like you were looking for a different kind of video, because this was about quickly getting somebody up to speed about what happens in the story and then showing them the ending.
@incaseofimportantnegotiations Жыл бұрын
@@DefunctGames it's more of a recount of the narrative than of the story or even the plot
