i'm impressed, not many people would even so much as look at any of the turtles music, all i need to do is say the name and people laugh. what amuses me is people laugh at something they know nothing about, i appreciate that you have posted this video, it tells me there are people who love music and not just what's popular. when i was in jr high school, 1987 is when i bought my first turtles album on cassette, it wasn't something that was on white whale records but it was a start. now i have nearly everything that was put out, including the rare turtles tie T shirt, thanks so much i've enjoyed this video

Huge Flo and Eddie fan here, indoctrinated in either 71 or 72 when my older sister bought live at the Fillmore East. I was a 10 or 11 year old, racing home from primary school to jump in the beanbag, put headphones on and trip out to the mating call of the adult male mudshark. ....i was also naturally very musical, learning piano, and understood i was perhaps listening to genius.

How was it live? What was the experience like? The atmosphere, the energy, the vibe, the people, and the women.. the women in that era just seemed so groovy, and aesthetically beautiful.. but, what was the reality like of it all, because i was born in the 70s, but the 80s was my era, along with how amazing it was, so when ppl look back talking about the 80s I tell them it was truly my best memories.. I wish it was the 80s forever. So please, can you tell me your experience

My dad did the string and horn arrangements on MARMENDY MILL (not, Marmendy HILL as you incorrectly called it), on Flo and Eddie's 2nd album. It's quite an epic piece compared to the original demo of the song which I recently heard. Producer Bob Ezrin also contributed as a writer on the orchestrated album version, contributing the album version's intro and outro. As for their stint with Zappa, Mothers Live at Fillmore East is one of my fave albums. Such a hilarious takedown of groupie and rock star culture. I first saw The Mothers in 68 at Kerrisdale arena in Vancouver. Myself and a friend got in free when we helped them move their gear from the bus into the arena. It was my 3rd concert. This was several years before Flo and Eddie of course. But I did get to see Flo and Eddie a few years later after they'd split from Zappa. They played The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. Not sure of the year. Might've been 74 or 75.

@@SeansMusicHunt I think there might've been another cut on the Flo & Eddie album where my dad did some arranging. Beyond F&E, he worked with Ezrin on Lou Reed's Berlin album, doing string and horn arrangements, and even playing piano on the title track. He also worked with Ezrin as an arranger on selected tracks for various Alice Cooper albums. Then there's his work with producer Ron Nevison. I believe Dave Mason's We Just Disagree was maybe the biggest song he did string arrangements for while working with Nevison. But there's also the string and horn arrangements he did while working for Nevison on The Babys 77 hit, Isn't It Time. As well, I think he might've done some arranging on one or two Guess Who tracks. Tho The Guess Who didn't use 'sweetening' on most of their songs.

I took a music business class with Volman as the instructor. "You know what thrill it is to get a phone call in the middle of the night from the Salt Lake City Police Department asking you to come down and identify your guitar player who died after falling out of the hotel's second floor?"- Mark Volman. This is one of the things I remember him saying in his classroom.

Very nice job. Well done! Bravo! Another book that you might want to consider is Jim Pons' autobiography, "Hard Core Love: Sex, Football, and Rock and Roll in the Kingdom of God." It is very well written and actually won a book-of-the-year award. It has lots of interesting stories of what led him to a career in music, his life in the Leaves, Turtles, Mothers, and Flo & Eddi, as well as his successful second career in professional football with the New York Jets as their film and video director. A truly fascinating read.

Nice job! I saw Flo and Eddie with the Mothers on two occasions. Once, at Stonybrook, I retrieved Mark's Tamborine for him after the show as he came back onstage, looking for it. He thanked me for finding it under a seat in the audience and said that it was "very expensive". Here's a question for you - can you confirm that Flo and Eddie were the back-up vocalists for Todd Rundgren's "Bang on the Drum"? It sure sounds like them but I've never been able to see a credit for it. Thanks! Keep up the good work.

I had to re-edit it, because KZbin removed monetization with my first version. Originally, I introduced "Billy the Mountain" and then it cut to your video with audio "Billy had two big Caves for eyes, With a cliff for a jaw That would go up 'n down, And whenever it did, He'd puff out some dust, And hack up a boulder (HACK!) Hack up a boulder (HACK! HACK!)" And then it showed the screenshot of your KZbin page as seen in the video while your video continued to play in the frame. To me, it was super awesome, but oh well... Thanks anyway! I'm glad I could shout you out as I enjoy your video! Thank you for watching!

@SeansMusicHunt Ай бұрын
Sorry for my late reply... I think KZbin failed to notify me of numerous comments... I agree with the Cheech and Chong sentiment, I haven't thoroughly researched their career but I assume they were more successful because, though they did music as well, they were blatantly comedians first and foremost. While Flo and Eddie were musicians with silliness and they failed to fit into a perfect box...

Why didn't Mark and Howard start a new band with a different name? Maybe a Turtle member or two would have joined them. Hard to believe the two couldn't find a label and reputable agent after all they had accomplished in a relatively short period of time. Seems that they had the name recognition and resumes to do it. By any name, the Turtles concept died way too soon.
