i enjoyed the video, interesting content, I wasn't familiar with their story until I did some research today. I'm going to check out the mamas and papas video next. Just as a piece of constructive criticism, which of course is simply my opinion, I felt like many parts of the video come across as you just reading an article or a wikipedia page. At one part, in particular, it actually sounded extremely similar to a little article I had just read. Even if this is not the case, and you are not reading anything, I felt like it comes off that way, which tends to be off putting. I also think part of it at least seeming that way is because there were also a lot of parts that came across as the opposite. You could tell it was your own wording and original thoughts and came across as much more natural and enjoyable. And please don't take any of this as offensive, like I said I really enjoyed the video and am looking forward to checking out your other stuff, which if anything is why I am offering my personal opinion and advice, because I'd like to see you have success. Although it's probably just that I'm an arrogant, pretentious English teacher and don't know when to turn it off!! lol. Anyways, good luck, keep up the good work, and obviously feel free to discard my opinion, it's just that, an opinion, doesn't mean I'm right. And not to sound like an arrogant English teacher again but if you're interested I could give you a few tips which could help in the area I was speaking of. Let me know if you're intrested

I loved the Turtles on AM radio, growing up. A friend turned me onto Flo & Eddie in college. We sang our own version of the final chorus of "Moving Targets" as Jimmy Carter was elected President in '76 (can't stop those moving Carters, never have to look at Ford ...). I have not thought of them in many decades, but remembered them during a nap today. Just listened to the whole "Moving Targets" (on youtube), and too much of what they sang is still 100% today. Thank you for your mini documentary on them, glad to learn the background of these fabulous artists. Also glad that some of the music from the 70s is still being discovered and appreciated, the way I enjoy discovering music made in this millennium.

@davebrown9725 Жыл бұрын
@@marthawelch4289 Well, two months (& a Serious Injury) later, it is a bit hard to recall, but there was a Lot of political angst and corruption back in the '70s that unfortunately seems to have metastasized from Reagan ("trickle-down economics", defunding the mental hospitals, the unholy GOP alliance with the christofascists), through the "tea party" republicans, to the MAGA Cult of today. Nearly 50 years later the US is still being damaged by these GOP wackadoos, with the help of the murdochs evil propaganda networks spreading hate, fear and LIES, to the point that this song and album still ring true today.

Now how many people can say that they got to puke on Jimi Hendrix? Seriously, the Turtles and that movie were great. The song Eleanor was supposed to piss off the record co. but ended up being a hit. At 9 or 10 I heard "She's My Girl." And I dug it. But many years later it was unbelievable. A masterpiece! The stones were not allowed to sing, Let's spend the night-together and did sing "some time" together instead. The Doors 1st hit got them on Ed Sullivan and were told not to say, "Higher." But they did and were banned for life. Now the Turtles were a nice Pop band. So, for whatever reason the execs didn't listen to My Girl and they did sing, "Getting so High...." A classic foot note in rock history. Thank you young'un for your condensed post of the turtles. Yes, timeless music, movies. poetry, whatever is meant to live on generation to generation.

@@SeansMusicHunt I knew their hits from my 60s childhood but didn't know what they looked like & initially put them with the Bubblegum genre ie Ohio Express, John Fred & Playboy's great hit dig at Lucy in Sky, but I've now bought a lot of Turtles CDs, wish they have done a complete Anthology issue but maybe their confluent business deals make it difficult. Even the Beatles had problems after Epstein died. They only ever got about 2-3 penny's out of every £ that EMI made. God knows what Capitol gave them. Love the Turtles & that live clip they played showed how they could sound nearly as good as the recordings. This was a concert, where? & is there a full version on KZbin? My classmate in school in Scotland was Jimmy McCulloch of Thunderclap Newman & Wings! I was gobsmacked playing with Paul McCartney, I idolised the Beatles from 1963 & I loved all the music & what we got from America. Without Brian Epstein it never would have happened, because until then 'Bands' didn't exist really apart from backing singers. America had some from the early Beach Boys & that would have developed in some form but without the Beatles it wouldn't have went that far musically. Keep Rockin'!

Flo and Eddie with Frank Zappa's 2 (or 3) albums were fantastic. Their song, "Billy the Mountain" was an entire LP album side (I still have the vinyl).The storyline is crazy, about a mountain that comes to life, billowing rocks and boulders out of his mouth as he up-roots and travels across America. Billy the Mountain has a wife which grows out of his shoulder, which is a crooked pine tree. Billy convinces his wife, named "Ethel," to venture out on a vacation (Billy was rewarded much $$$ from the postcards he'd posed for for all those decades). Upon receiving his royalties, Billy and Ethel travel across America, naturally causing untold damage to everywhere they traversed. - I know, that's the mind of Frank Zappa for you. The song, "Billy the Mountain" contains about 8 or ten different songs within. --FYI

I've just recently come to really appreciate the turtles , a very interesting story that many aren't aware of (including me until recently) and some great music. I've also been a big zappa fan (or so I thought) and never realized they played with him.

Sean, I enjoy your videos. You are too young to really remember the Turtles, but I’m not. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. Graduated high school in 1971, so yea, I remember them well. One thing that I always wondered about is how Mark would come up to Howard (during a song), and goof with him in an intimate way. It was so odd. I wondered “what the hell? What’s he doing”? Have you seen this in their performances?
@SeansMusicHunt7 ай бұрын
😆 to an extent. I've seen them live before, but obviously not with the energy of their youth and I very much enjoy watching videos of them. The 2 and a half man show that they did from 79-81 is especially ridiculous. My video on Flo and Eddie's later career has a snippet of Howard crawling through Mark's legs while singing. 😂 Absolutely hysterical legends. I love them so much. I wish I could have experienced their shows with Zappa. Would be incredible

It's not easy to choose my favorite song as you have requested, but I'll try. "Buzzsaw" is just a great, meaningless rock n' roller. "Nikki Hoy" was always fun, especially live. "Moving Targets" is as rocky as music should get. "She's Rather Be With Me" is right up there with "Happy Together" as truly great pop. And what can I say about "Keep It Warm"? A great song and a great record. And lots of fun live!

@denniswood14379 ай бұрын
I love the Turtles entire album catalog, but I especially love the Battle of the Bands which is a great listening experience and a lot of fun. It took its cue from Sgt. Pepper with the band taking on different musical personas with each song. There is pop, psychedelia, surf, country, folk influences. "You Showed Me", "The Last Thing I remember" "Surfer Dan", "Earth Anthem" & "Elenore" are all great songs. Nick Lowe would take this idea of using different personas with his Pure Pop for Now People/ Jesus of Cool in the UK In the late 1970s.

i really enjoyed the video and all the info. was the band made up of really good musicians and did they actually play on the studio recordings or did they use studio people like the wrecking crew so everything would come out just right? when i've seen some of their appearances on video it's obvious they are lypsincing and the players are going through the motions. i've heard a lot of the bands even the byrds used a studio band but roger maguinn was allowed to play.
