It's a destination I've been to many times but the ride from Sydney to West Head will never get old. When you have stunning weather, calm conditions on the road - as was the case in Sydney early on Easter Sunday - and a turnaround as beautiful as the lookout in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, it's pretty much perfect. Cycling as it ought to be..! Beautiful, scenic, therapeutic, enjoyable and safe.
This is the story of my ride from 31 March 2024.
I hope you enjoy watching it, as much as I enjoyed riding it (and filming it... and sharing it with you).
- Rob

Glad you agree with most of us about tools taking up a whole lane when there is room on the left. Gives us all a bad name. Keep up the great work mate.

This is still my favourite ride when I come to Sydney. I'll keep an eye out for the marvellous spider webs. Continue to make such informative videos.

Hey Rob, a top ride that day, and the fog was indeed amazing to ride through. Even with Lion Island not visible, we still stopped to take the ubiquitous Palm Beach photo! Nice to chat with you at the cafe. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of that Katusha Team Focus, it’s still a joy to ride. But now I’ll have to wait until my son upgrades before I even get a chance to again anyway!😜

Ha..! Glad you saw the summary of the ride. Fantastic to see the bike in use and in great condition all these years later.

Such a beautiful ride Rob, I was lucky enough to do it three times over the Easter long weekend in the last of the warm weather. Cycling that recharges the mind and drains the legs!

Great video Sir. Admire the fitness to ride 100km! I’m just a 35-40km guy (at the moment).

Thank you for kind words. What follows isn’t advice, rather a statement. Your distance or speed or myriad other data will explain, in time - in a surprisingly short time - that 35-40 soon grows. Numbers are interesting. But cycling for fun is what matters. (Yep, other things come, but enjoy yourself and all the numbers grow.)

Another nice one. Always look forward to your content Rob. Always refreshing and calming. Keep it up. Is that the POC Ventral Lite - looks nicer than the Kask Protone Icon in my view. How do you feel it compares?

Well, see... I'm torn. It's difficult to say 'favourite' - which I think I recently labelled the Protone, for a variety of reasons... and then, I saw my POC. You know, it just caught my eye. I thought: 'it's been hot - actually weirdly hot, and humid - and the Ventral Lite, I like that too.' The thoughts continued and then it started again: a relationship I've neglected for a while, one that still pleases. But that doesn't make the Ventral Lite my 'favourite' either. It is, I suppose, helmets for courses, for varying conditions, for cooling... for mood. Does that help? - Rob

I did this ride on the Tuesday before Easter and glad that I did it then. Those Easter Sunday crowds look horrendous

I was out riding on the Old Northern Road when this fog dropped and I have to say I was not as thrilled, was terrified i was going to get taken out by a car.
