Robbie is now on Eurosport Cycling channel on KZbin. So Excited! Totally agree with all the positive comments. He is such a gem. I raced against him in 1992. He won the Uni of QLD first stage of three stage tour. Extremely steep hill to finish. I got a flat well before. But like me, Robbie was one of two A-grade riders that had humility to ask Gavin Young what gear to use for the hill. It was insane. Robbie first stage. In a surprise, and I never know why - but I admired it - Robbie launched a kamikaze solo on the second stage. What I admired was the guts. There was no way that could succeed, but the attitude was right (ride boldly), he went all the way in the sport didn’t he. People that are humble learn so much more than people who are proud. Robbie has worked for everything he has got. And he deserves to speak knowledgeably when he speaks, because you instantly know he knows. When he speaks it is like he is taking you in the race. A great sadness was the loss around this time of Darren Smith - the great mate of Robbie - and I called him The Little Master, imagining in the status of Sir Hubert Opperman, just exceptional talent, judgement, and all-round at such a young age. Such a tragedy to lose him. I would have loved to have sprinted against Robbie (and obviously lost) but my mate Marcel who I could beat and who did sprint against Robbie said merely “HE’S RAPID”. Classic. Two words. No chance. Like Robbie’s kick. That says it all. And it is great to see he has such good and down to earth friends as Rob Arnold. Thank you. Rob for sticking up for Robbie. It is such a STUPID decision. What on earth were they thinking. They are like gold miner who are throwing gold away like dirt and saying “Oh, we are going in a different direction.” No you’re not. You’re punctured, lost and losing, and so far from home, don’t know front from rear, you haven’t got a clue what you are doing. SBS broadcasts now are crap. All they had to do was smile. Now they are are just full or ads. The race was theirs to lose. The TOUR DE FRANCE. An icon of world culture. It is a race but it is both this and much more. It is jae ne sas qua, a certain indefineable something. An experience! My friends and family literally plan their year around to watch, and gather round. It transports you. If not in Paris themselves, on a regular basis, we at least have the tour and the mute button. SBS however may as well be on Mars. They don’t even have the food guy. No taste. Honey, please turn up the music. Paris is so beautiful this time of year.

Vanessa, thanks for the comment. This was, I'm sure you realise, one of a series from the TDU of 2024. If you have a little look around the channel - www.youtube.com/@ride-media - you'll find plenty of scenery from other videos in the #StoryOfMyRide series. I'm currently in Italy... at the end of a month-long visit (ie. flying home in a few hours) and then the editing of a vast collection of other videos will begin. Believe me, I've seen some great scenery these past few weeks. So, stay tuned. - Rob

So, reckon 32's will fit on my 2022 Izalco? Running Prime 44mm carbon hoops, 23mm inner, 30mm outer width.
@ride-media
@ride-media 4 күн бұрын
Absolutely... 100%. I've got the 2019 Izalco Max, so I know for certain that 32mm fits (easily). No stress at all. And, to be clear (as I cannot recall - while travelling and not watching again - which video you've commented on): bike brands tend to consider "clearance" as ±4mm between tyre and fork/frame. - Rob

NOTE: I've just checked your wheel reference... ah, I have no idea what they are, have never used them - or seen them - but by "44mm" you mean rim height? Again, can't see it being an issue with 32mm tyres. - Rob

G’day. Deciding between the ALR5 and SL5. Does the isospeed and carbon frame really make a difference for dampening vibrations? I ride both mtb and road.
@ride-media
@ride-media 4 күн бұрын
Ah... this is the only Checkpoint I've ridden but I've used the Domane, so I'll offer my view on the IsoSpeed...: frankly, minimal gains, maximum hassle. It does offer a bit of extra comfort but I don't really see the point of making what could be a far more classic looking back so... ah, clunky. IsoSpeed seems like an interesting notion but tyre innovation - tubeless, larger sizes, etc - negates the need for the complexity of the concept that was dreamed up years ago. I can't see Trek persisting with it much longer to be honest. Hope that helps. - Rob

Yep, signage writers / installers / designers in Australia seriously need to rethink the approach taken. If the effort is made to highlight a direction, at least highlight it in a useful way. It can be laughable... until it gets cyclists (or other road users for that matter) in a dangerous predicament. - Rob

There's a LONG story coming about this topic. A visit to the Selle Royal / fi:zi’k factory in Italy a few weeks back answered a lot of the questions I had about saddle fitting, positioning and more. I've been travelling since that visit but I have hours of footage and plenty of interesting insights from what was a really enjoyable, informative session in Pozzoleone. What approach are you taking (ie. level, nose angled slightly down... etc)? I'll continue this commentary with some online posts once I get back to the office in Sydney. (Currently on my wait to airport in Venice... 😥 It's been a fantastic month in Italy but also minimal time to get all the editing I wanted to do done... - Rob

I wouldn't be riding if I had to ride a normal bike, too much of a chore and I'm too old. I bought an ebike during covid and have been riding every day since. I've lost 20kgs so there goes the myth you get no exercise. My holidays are now centred around cycleways and rail trails. Ebike yes, electric car no. I regularly explore Sydney by ebike, it's great fun.

Western Sydney is packed full of long distance cycleways. All the infrastructure around the new airport is getting integrated cycleways built in. You can ride from Penrith station to Campbelltown station on a cycle path via the Northern Rd, it's a similar ring around Sydney to what the M7 is.

Among Russians who oppose the war in Ukraine, Tinkoff is respected for not supporting the war; this stance has costed him his business. It was interesting to learn about his management techniques. I expected it: his demeanor is brash even in Russian standards. Would not want to have him as a boss.

Biking in the USA is dangerous and especially with the entitled personal vehicle culture. One instance does stand out in my mind from many. Earlier this year I was biking down a two-lane roadway on a Saturday morning (around 11:30). It can get busy at times, but at that time it wasn't. Had I not had my mirror I would have been sideswiped by what looked like a postal delivery vehicle. I too had too leave the roadway. I didn't have a camera at the time, but I did memorise the large numbers printed on the back of the vehicle. The postal service refused to even verify it was one of their vehicles as they didn't use that particular make in their fleet although the neighbouring municipality does. After that, I did purchase a bike cam to record these events.

i have retired and will be getting back to Sydney soon - will be tootling around the bikepaths just to see what you are on about - but i rarely used bike paths to commute for the last 15 years of my working life.. too bloody disjointed to use all the way - sections here and there, but the concept of trunk routes going from A to B is an alien concept - as councils do not co-ordinate or communicate.

Have the exact same issue with my Caledonia 5. I hear creaks and sometimes louder cracks. I reapplied the carbon paste and was good for 1 ride. Did it again and then good for 3 rides. Will try again also applying the grease to the metal on metal parts as well. Hopefully, this will resolve the issue.

@@ride-media wow amazing!!! Thanks for doing this. I appreciate some documentation of his curious life.I am going to share it on social media. My only memory of ever seeing my Dad as a child is in BIKE PANTS. DEAD SERIOUS> the long ones in winter. I used to go up into the roofs of bike warehouses when he was downstairs yarning with shop owners. There was a smell of...."push bike parts" up there. And lots of boxes and things. I liked it. I am not a mad cyclist like him, but can understand and appreciate the sport. Of course, he taught me how to ride very young. And that was always encouraged as a mode of transport. Well into adulthood. 😄 He said he wants his ashes spread over the tour of France finishing line as the riders come through, though I am not sure if he is for reals.
