16:41 I think since she said I reminded her that that’s her granddaughter’s 16th birthday that that was already in the works and a sweet 16 party there’s already lots of planning that goes into it so I doubt that the other daughter had not heard when it was going to be and then she decided to be vindictive and plan her baby shower the same day

Is it just me or did that laugh from Candy about the ages of the kids in the lunch with coworker story sound so empathetically evil? 😂 She understands, but is also imagining how crazy that must be and is glad it's not her! 😂😂

The baby shower story: i don't think sil purposely scheduled the shower to be the same day as the sweet 16. As another commentor mentioned, the sil's best friend is probably planning and hosting the shower, which is why she needs to be there. But more importantly to think about is why sil "dropped off the face of the earth" when she got involved with her husband. With such an abrupt behavioral change like that, id be concerned that the husband is controlling and maybe even abusive, because it sounds like he might have made her cut off contact with all her loved ones. Maybe it has nothing to do with that, but it definitely seems like a big red flag.

In story 7, OP was offering SIL a take home box of cake. In what world is that contrary to being an introvert? If she's feeling nonverbal, just shake your head no thanks? Saying "I'm an introvert leave me alone" as a response to "would you like some cake" is insane

With the married couple trying to eat lunch together: i don't think the husband is putting his coworkers feelings above his wife's. Hes just anxious about creating a toxic work environment for himself if he alienates his coworker. And it's not that he's unconcerned about his wife's needs. Hes just being more frank about his worries with her because they are close enough to be honest with each other about tough issues. At any rate, I totally get where hes coming from. And i agree with Dusty that they should say something like "we have private family stuff to discuss, so we need to be alone for the next couple weeks." Then make up whatever reason for why you need to continue having lunch alone for several days each week. That seems like the least painful solution.

It's also weird that not only is she tagging on EVERY time, but..he's also paying. She hasn't paid him back for the ones he's paid. So he doesn't want to hurt her feelings by saying no, pays for her lunch, and isn't standing up for his wife and her only free time with him... you would think he would be upset too. This is odd

56:40 she felt happy in herself and her life then he shot his mouth off with that drunk comment and then she started seeking validation anywhere she could get it and social media is the easiest place to do it. This is definitely not a one time thing in their relationship this is a deep fundamental issue

So the wife asked for him to be honest with her, and he was..... so she took her insecurities and made them his fault? She literally wasn't his type, and he didn't find her attractive at first. The solution wasn't to lie to her. It was for her to actually listen to what he was saying instead of flying off the handle. She asked him not to save her feelings. If she didn't want the truth, she shouldn't have asked! I was the same way with my husband, when shown pics of him before we met. It took getting to know him to become attracted. While I agree he should have shut up instead of trying to do damage control, I disagree that lying to her would have been a better answer.

The co-worker lunch: sounds like she is pushing boundaries and has asserted herself into “getting in good” with the boss and I could see her going to lunch with just him if his wife didn’t show up one day and making moves on him… it’s that level of innapropriate in the workplace. He is to passive to be a leader, maybe his wife should take his job, it sounds like she could handle the position better.😊

Baby shower story: The reason the Best Friend's schedule matters is because she is throwing the party for the pregnant SIL. I had close friends throw both of my baby showers. ESH cause this family sucks at communicating!!

I was thinking that too. OP sounds like she just expected the family to remember her system. Surprisingly, the family *might* have other stuff going on in their lives, and so, yes, it is on her to communicate the date of the party. I do think SIL did this intentionally, but OP isn't entirely in the clear either.

Plus it's such a childish struggle. I hate seeing adults have petty, stupid arguments like this. Especially OP, she seems way too old to be acting like a friggin high schooler when moving her kid's bday party by one day is seriously not the big deal she's making it out to be.

I don’t think OP sucks. Sounds to me like she had the party planned since she reminded MIL about the party. Maybe her writing sucks. Most sweet 16’s I’ve been to have a venue, band/photographers etc- it’s def more than a backyard BBQ… Anyway why can’t the SIL have multiple showers? I had 2 🤷🏽‍♀️

@@Taewills I was thinking that too. A sweet sixteen is usually a huge event and it seems like shes been planning this for a while. I would be willing to bet she at the very least made a Facebook invite if not actual invitations but that is just an assumption on my part. I get that the SIL might have things booked as well but I think expecting her to move the party is entitled af. I think two showers is a perfect solution or maybe do the shower in the early afternoon and the party at night. I feel like they can figure this out.

I’m an introvert. I have social anxiety. I’m also, on occasion, an asshole. But one does not influence the other.

I have dealt with super sensitive team members that will run to HR at the drop of a hat. If you both work for the same company and there is an HR dept- it’s sounds extreme - but I would get feedback from them on language they can use to set boundaries. What co-worker is doing is wrong and invasive- they need to cover themselves.
