I remember seeing this in the news, if I recall it was the Manzanares Case. I live in Utah and that couple were from Utah, so it was local news for us. It was absolutely sickening!! I can't imagine how weird that would have been to have been on that cruise ship when it all took place?!! And so crazy the wheels of justice took so long, and that he only served such a small part of his sentence!! My heart breaks for those children!!

We were on a cruise several years ago with a group of people from my husband’s work. Halfway through the cruise, in the middle of the night, one the men suddenly died of heart attack. That is when we learned there was a morgue in the lower deck of the ship. Arrangements were made and my husband and I escorted the widow home from an airport in Mexico. I asked one of the ship employees if deaths occurred regularly on a cruise ship and he replied that they do happen on occasion, but he said often the surviving spouse does not have the support as the widow did of our group. Incidentally, initially, my husband and I were not excited about the cruise, but when on assignment from his employer. When this sudden death happened we knew the reason why we were there and it made it easy to leave the cruise and fly home with the widow. It was all very sad to loose a spouse suddenly so far from home and family.

We were on a Transatlantic cruise where a person died, ( natural causes, we assume), on one of the first days. We didn't dock until the Azores, seven days later. Can't imagine what that was like for the spouse of the deceased; the partner is in the morgue, and can't dock for several days. We observed the hearse pulled up to the ship. Probably happens more than we know with all the retirees on cruises.

What a tragic story. Those poor kids and all involved. I can’t believe people would complain after hearing the reason why. I’m always interested in these types of stories, but to be so close to one occurring had to be scary. I’m curious about the documentation of his interview and will check that out. I have only been on one cruise in my life. A short jaunt from Los Angeles to Baja Mexico and back. 3 or 4 days I think. It was a little over 20 years ago. My husband and I and another couple. Had a great time. When we were disembarking, a young man in a suit and a notebook came up to us and asked us what we knew about the murder aboard the ship. The question took us by surprise and we just shrugged and said no. We thought perhaps it was some sort of Love Boat Murder Mystery that we must have missed. But as we left the ship terminal we saw many news vans parked out front. Then it hit us that there really WAS a murder! It was a fight between two crew members, and one grabbed a knife from the galley and stabbed the other guy. Horrible. But your story is absolutely shocking. A heated fight is one thing, but a domestic situation is more of a shock.
@strikkelises2 жыл бұрын
I remember you talking about this back when it had happened and I wondered about the circumstances around the murder. How horrible. I'm not surprised to hear that there are deaths on board the cruise ships. I know Norwegian hospitals along the coast are sometimes having a huge task tending to cruise tourists, as a lot of them are breaking something or falling ill in the middle of summer holidays. There are a lot of elderly people among the tourists with pre existing conditions etc.

My husband & I cruise a lot. To date 26 cruises. On three separate cruises someone died. Two were natural causes. The third a very young man died from alcohol poisoning. One of the natural causes was located several doors down from us. A young mom & dad traveling with their two kids of elementary age and their grandmother. I saw them and greeted them everyday. The grandmother, who wasn’t very old, passed away. The next port day I saw the family with their suitcases leaving the ship. They looked devastated. I have never forgotten this family and the looks on their faces. I felt very odd walking past their empty room the rest of cruise.

We cruise all the time and follow cruise bloggers. In recent months there has been a lot of fights breaking out on ships. Cruise lines have tightened up rules to the point if you cause a fight or are involved you will be kicked off at your own expense and banned to ever cruise again. Low prices is bring an undesirable clientele to the ships. That with alcohol your going to see more disturbing behavior. I am sure the woman who died on your cruise was already a victim of domestic violence before she ever got on that ship. If it didn’t happen their it was going to happen somewhere.
@lindab57892 жыл бұрын
This was an interesting story, and frightening to have something like that happen in your proximity. Its also shocking that there are 1 to 2 deaths per cruise! Certainly the cruise lines would not want that info to be publicized. Just curious on how that information came to light?

That people were complaining about missing their excursions is so awful.
