Ugh. I will admit I had questions about Sisterlocks quality control after seeing that Welcome Home video and their website. This is so disturbing. For $1735, call them whatever you want. Lol. If they were done by a SL consultant, they count. Your locs are beautiful, btw🙂

I have micro locks 440 to be exact. Although I love sister locks I am a cosmetologist.I was gonna take the class to become a consultant however there is a hefty price and so much critiquing. I feel so bad because people are paying so much but not getting what they pay for which is sister locks. The micro locks look about the same but at a fraction of the price.

What is the difference between the micro locks and sister locks? I just got sister locks installed 2 days ago. 460 locs.

This story is one of the main problems I have with the branded sisterlocks. Sisterlocks keeps their information so secretive that you honestly don’t know if you are getting a proper job done. I am so sorry this happened to you. Perhaps you should call the Sisterlocks headquarters. Part of the sisterlocks deal is having a place to resolve these issues. I suggest you start with them an ask how you should proceed. I met a woman in the grocery store who paid 900$ and like you discovered she didn’t have sisterlocks. I’ve seen enough KZbin stories to realize I can’t chance my money like that, thus I did my own hair. However your hair is really beautiful. I do love it.

Oonagh72 MINE TOO!! A consultant talked to me in such a nasty way lol and she had animals all over her apartment just out, parrots included lmbo. It took me a week to install 517 locs. I watch sisterlocks videos because there’s not a lot of microloc videos.

New subscriber! And yes, I made it through the entire video. So sorry to hear about your situation. Did you find your original consultant from the SL website? A family member of mine got SL last year then afterwards she took the class. She is not practicing, but she did share some small details with me. I loved how her SL made her hair appear so FULL and FLUFFY that I actually took down my previous starter locks, and found a consultant here in Charlotte, NC (from the website) in the hopes of starting my own SL hair journey. At my consultation the consultant was super nice, genuine, sincere and accommodating. My only drawback was the fact that she wanted to charge me $700 for an install appointment that would be TEN (10) weeks LATER! I couldn’t see myself paying that amount of money for service rendered 2.5 months later. So, I installed interlocks myself three weeks ago. On another note, I hate that the Sisterlock brand is so damn secretive that it actually hinders potential clients the ability to properly vet consultants. Average Consumers don’t know what specific questions to ask, what to look for, what tools are used, patterns, etc. My niece LITERALLY prepared for me a list of questions to ask during my consultation. Questions that Otherwise I would’ve never thought to ask.

Hi Mo! I love your hair. 😊 Please don’t be discouraged. A SL consultant did your hair and the proper tool was used. Perhaps a better pattern could have been used and maybe they could be a tad bit smaller but you still have SLs! I get tired of these people declaring what people do and do not have. If you love your hair nothing else matters. Stay encouraged.

You have a beautiful spirit and the most important is that you're happy with your locs. Our hair is beautiful and will flourish. I have to say something also: I highly recommend you to either talk or write to your previous consultant about your experience. Actually the Sisterlocks brand wants consultants like her to be reported. More so to give another chance and make sure that they follow the guidelines. I dont know if she gave you a paperwork about the company, but it should also be mentioned in order to better the brand and because so many non certified consultant take advantage of new clients. Please think about yourself or the next client going to her & in addition you're helping her. On another note I can't wait to see how your locs flourish! Keep us posted!

Sounds like your 1st SL consultant needs to take a refresher course. I graduated from the course last year but I am still a trainee until a fulfill and pass finishing 3 installations. In the meanwhile I review the materials I was given everyday and practice all the patterns. It's important for SL practitioners to keep themselves informed and knowledgeable about Sisterlocks. So glad you found someone who is truly knowledgeable. I would keep calling them Sisterlocks!

This was heartbreaking to hear, your hair looks absolutely amazing! And I know you don’t want to rant about the SL brand but this story made me mad, like the brand is so problematic at times that I JUST CANT! you should still call them Sisterlocks because you paid the price, you should also contact headquarters and try to get a refund!

Its not the sisterlocks brand that is the problem. Its some of the unscrupulous people that take the class to learn to do sisterlocks then misrepresent the brand thats the problem. I myself have taken the class way back in 2004 and I can tell you that the sisterlocks brand is very clear on how sister locks should be installed. Dr. Cornwell, the creator and founder of the brand has worked very hard to create the sisterlocks brand and has done an excellent job but cannot control simple minded people who misrepresent the brand. i hope Sisterlocks starts suing anyone who misrepresents their brand

The SL brand is not problematic. The way some consultants interpret their training or apply what they know is problematic. This is true of any discipline which is why there are some drs and nurses we do NOT want to attend to us. What is very surprising to me..is that IF we have a very bad experience with a professional few people bash the SCHOOL where they were taught or wonder why the SCHOOL does not straighten out the Dr or banker who went there I have been doing SL since 2013 and can tell you that the conversations about grid snobbery, or base section sequence did NOT originate with SL but is reflected in the prejudices and attitudes of the newer consultants who became trainers. Most either were never taught or FAILED to pay attention to the FACTS that SL promotes certain stds but also stresses in certain circumstances the rules MUST be broken For instance, in establishing SL in a person with sparse hair you CANNOT create a symmetrical grid where there is no hair. In determining the size of sections and how to section, The fineness of the hair and the amount MUST BE CONSIDERED and dictate the grid pattern. The goal is fullness and versatility but NOT of newly established hair but of the hair overall as it grows out and locks. Mostvpeople with SL often get their locks cut off 5- 10 years in and start over due to problems. This is because often, there hair was not established correctly because both they and their consultant focused on the look before locking and NOT the reality of locks. Locks do not stop winding down If locks are made too small in the beginning they will stress and break years later. On fine hair...despite a scalpy look, the base section SHOULD BE LARGER..because as the hair gets longer the weight will STRESS the base and 6 to 8 years in a lock with a smaller base may not be able to hold the weight of much longer hair. The problem here is what each trainer conveys is technique and bias and most do not consider the physics and science of hair. SL teaches a technique and use of a tool to achieve a certsin look. That is what they promote..HOW an individual consultant applies this info is up to them. Sl cannot police individual consultants any more than a university goes out to monitor alumni. If you have ever tried to teach anyone you know how varied the understanding can be. If SL attempted to police the loctitians who own their own businesses then the onus and liability of their actions would fall on SL instead of the consultant. SL is not making enough in dues to assume legal liability.
@queenbee9505
@queenbee9505 10 ай бұрын
@@icecreamladydream I TOTALLY AGREE but would add that I might disagree with the analysis of the mother/daughter consultants. Finer hair does require a larger base to handle the later weight of the locks. Not a super large base but still within the section guidelines on the SL sectioning card. ALSO I take umbrage with any consultant whose operating MO is to bash other consultants. We are left to make certain decisions about why we do certain things and often TIME proves the decisions of some consultants correct. My own head is living proof of this.

HOW and WHY do you expect SL to refund for what a consultsnt did? If a college grad of any field does a bad job, do you sue the business the person belongs to or operates or sue the school they attended? Sisterlocks does NOT employ most consultants. They work for themselves These consultants paid for the right to use a tool and info to learn a technique. They do NOT answer to SL except to be certified and to remain certified. Most who do SL also do many other types of locks or braiding and many mix and match technique. Legally, SL has NO AUTHORITY to tell anyone how to use their brand. The only thing they can do is desertification and remove a person from the list of certified consultants. If anyone tries to sue SL for what a consultant did the courts would most likely DISMISS the suit because the plaintiff sued the wrong person. SL is not the boss of any consultant they have a brand and are LIMITED to either endorsing a consultants right to represent the brand, retraining, or removing the endorsement. We need to treat SL like we treat other professions IF for bad service, you do not go after the university where that operator went to school stop applying such myopic std to SL.

Oh wow hopefully you talk with her and then report her so she won’t do anyone else like that. Sisterlocks cost a lot of money and with that should come a guarantee. She owes you a refund for not providing the service your paid for. While she may have made a mistake it’s a pricey one that shouldn’t be made. A good thing is you found someone early on who could help fix the mistakes of the previous loctician.

Hey Mo. I love your locks and I understand your concern. I feel like a minority of women on here. You HAVE sisterlocks. You have them. If you make a change, let it be because you want something different or better. Perhaps she made a mistake or she would still say you have sisterlocks. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think in have a reverse 4, and I'm 7 years locked with 575 and no complaints. When I consider the end result, all I ever wanted was small neat looking locks. At the time, I didnt even know of a thing called microlocks. So regardless of what anyone would say to me, I have sisterlocks. Also if the company has no grievance process, then who the hell gets to say you dont have sisterlocks. For me, theres just TOO much diversity in what different heads of hair will do. We are talking about energy here. The only thing that really matters is what you think. If her lack of expertise caused her to somehow malign the process, in a just world she would be a part of the solution and provide financial retribution. But then again, it comes down to how would you have felt had those 2 consultants never said a word and simply assisted with the class. Would you have gone on to feel you had sisterlocks and not been the wiser? Best wishes. I guess I have small issues with folks saying others dont have sisterlocks if the tool, the grid, the price, the certification, etc is there.

😳😳😳WOW. I am shocked to hear this. I feel very sad for you. I have seen SO many videos of this happening to people that I didn't feel comfortable going to a consultant or trainee for certified Sisterlocks. It seems like they don't have a good enough way to ensure the consistency of their brand's characteristics and that is VERY concerning. Anyway, I think you made the right choice in just moving forward. You're in my prayers. God bless you!

Your locs are beautiful. However, you paid for Sisterlocks. As part of that, you paid for a certain level of expertise, experience, and quality. She did not give that to you. Basically, whether or not she intended to do so, what you got was a "bait and switch". Legally, it's a breach of contract. Maybe you should research the price of an interloc installation and then go back to your original sisterlock consultant and ask a partial refund. You might also consider reporting her to SL headquarters. Maybe she just needs to have some more training. Unless something is said to her, she'll probably continue to keep making the same mistakes on other clients. I really doubt the SL brand would be happy knowing that a representative was delivering subpar work because that would make the brand look bad.

So sorry to hear what happened to you. Same exact thing happened to my sister. She was ripped off just like you, by was a supposedly certified sister locks loctician. She'd actually gotten her name off their online listing, called ahead, did all due diligence. The 'sister locks' consultant installed 260 locks She blamed herself because she said the moment she stepped in the door, the smell of weed could have knocked a grown man down (it was so thick), plus the consultant was high as a kite. She says she should have got her butt out of the chair, but it had taken so much to even get an appointment that she just ignored all the warning signs. Plus just the travel time to get to her consultant was ridiculous. Good news is, after she had several appointments canceled by the consultant, she switched to another in a nearby state. That was when she first heard the truth about her 'sister locks'. He hair is thriving now, but I don't think she ever eventually got up to 400 locks. She says she's fine with the number she has now; takes less time to retighten. In fact, she's had to trim her hair twice now to keep it at just above bra-strap. It's so full and grows like a weed.

The same thing happened to me. Went for vacation to the islands and the “consultant” and her daughter had BEAUTIFUL sisterlocks. I was like, yes I’m in the right place. She proceeded to use the latch hook (pink n green) to do my hair, I thought she knew what she was doing so I’ll keep quiet. When they swelled up they doubled in size, and I was livid. Some were needle size and others pencil size all over my head. I ended up cutting them off after and started interlocking my hair and I LOVE THEM!!! Sorry to hear about your experience. You need your money back!!!!

I know this was poster a while ago, but this is scaring the hell outta me. My hair is nothing to play with. We don’t spend years growing it out for someone to mess it up. I would’ve asked for a refund ASAP, like 75%. Secondly, this is a problem with the brand for me. The method is too secretive, which can lead to issues like this. How do I know what to look for if the information is not publicly available. What does the tool look like, what pattern is best for my hair. How should the lock look. I know I can google these things but every one has a different opinion. Sisterlocks cost way too much for mistakes!

Pat on the back 👏🏽Round of applause lol 😭😩 I had to watch because I have a consult with a trainee coming up soon. I watched a few video on install going bad and tbh I feel like stylist be petty when you aren’t their regular custom, then they try to make extra money off of new clients with fear tactics, or just down other stylists work. I’m really trying to figure out how sister locs are loced if interlocking is the wrong way?!?! But I did learn from the video and know my consultant should tell me that I’m going to have 400+ locs, I’m going to ask about locing methods to install and retighten. If I were you I would have done the same thing because your hair is gorgeous and you can just call them Mo’s locs, your head, your brand!!!!

Sorry you went through that. You paid a lot. The prices were much less years ago. BUT you should get what you paid for and you paid her a pretty penny. She should give you at least a partial refund. I had a similar situation with my sisterlocks installation. My former loctician install only 317 locks. I paid her for 30 hours work, $750. She rushed my hair and only took 20 hours. They were more close to brother locks. I had another sisterloctician inspect my locks. She confirmed I had SL, but they were waaaaay too large. She offered to take them down and redo it for $1000. After serious thought, I decided to keep my locks. I love my locs and get compliments all the time. I learned to retighten my own hair with a bobbypin. Been doing it for 2 years without a problem.

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me! I started off with 10-12 inches of hair. It took 16 hours to install my “sisterlocks.” During the installation I expressed an interest in having small micro locks. However, my Consultant advised that they would break down the line and suggested that I get small locks in the back and perimeter and larger sisterlocks in the middle and top of my head because I have low density very soft hair. Ordinarily, I would insist upon getting what I wanted but I deferred to her because she had been installing sisterlocks for over 10 years. Then I found a new job and finally had more spare time on my hands so I started watching KZbin videos and kept hearing IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AT LEAST 400 LOCKS YOU DO NOT HAVE SISTERLOCKS. So now I’m livid because I had 318!!! So I asked my consultant again about my lock size and she said I HAVE A SMALL HEAD AND LOW DENSITY HAIR. Now, when I questioned the $1,400 fee during the consultation because I had long low density hair I was told, “ the fee is based on hair length and you have NORMAL density.” Needless to say, I’m 4 years in and I’m not happy! I saw another consultant who advised me to split certain locks which I’ve done. I’m waiting to see how my hair fills out. At this point I wish I had just taken them down and started over especially after watching the Bespoke KZbin video channel! Anyway good luck with your hair. Despite the number, it looks beautiful!!

I just got mine done 2 days ago. I called a lot of consultants from the website. Some didn't have an appointment available until 2019. I decided to go with a loctician who is not on the sister locks website. I paid $850. I saw the work she did to a friend of mine, reason I trusted her. I think most of the complains I have listened on youtube are from real consultants who are on the website and trainees. Will say, just do your research and go to where your heart drives you. Some website consultants were like $200 cheaper but for some reason I felt I should go to this one that did my hair.

This right here is what I don't get about SLs. They are a trademarked brand that costs a lot of money, but since the consultants are independent, they can essentially rip people off and SL doesn't police them or remove bad consultants from their website (unless that really does happen). If she messed you up due to ignorance, she's messing others up too.

I am happy and sad all at the same time finding this video. I'm happy because I know I'm not crazy with what I know what's going on with my sister locs. I'm sad because this happen to someone else and this is a big investment for us, for someone to take you for your money is sick. I'm thankful you made this video and you found someone to help you resolve what was done wrong.

Dang Mo. I’m so sorry. You know when you stated how many locks you had I thought density and small head as well but when I started seeing more videos I heard people say 400 plus and the grid I swear I thought about you’re hair. Wow! Well they still look awesome and just keep it moving like you said. 😘

I understand what you are saying I took the class and i have sisterlocks to my knowledge but Apon taking the class i notice certain things and my instructor told me things that made me feel as though I don't. I'm at the point now I do love my locks I'm going to combine them because they are so small around the perimeter, and I feel as though I'm going to lose them so for me healthy strong hair is better, and I have a neat grid. So going forward Sisterlock is a brand, but healthy hair is an ongoing lifestyle let's do what works best for us. I'm fortunate that I can go bigger. Going through the class awesome but it is expensive to get done you want what you pay for. Even though I research beforehand just some information unless you take the class you won't know the difference. But your looks hair is amazing.

That's weird. I've been watching your channel a few days now and the first thing I thought was that you had microlocs. I'm not a consultant, but I have been doing so much research (for a couple of years). They are still beautiful though, and this makes me consider microlocks over sisterlocs, because I find your locs to be very appealing and less of a hassle/ less work.

Wow your locs are beautiful. I had a similar situation but my second set of traditional locs. I won't go into details but basically my loctician who maintained my locs for 5 years was awesome and my locs were beautiful but I moved to Europe and was disappointed in the quality of so called loctician there so out of frustration I cut them. In hindsight I could've maintained them but nevertheless I immediately regretted it and grew my hair out and while on vacation back in the states I had my loctician restart them.the problem came in when I went back to Germany and my friend maintained them for me for 5 months and messed up my parts. Fast forward I'm back stateside and my loctician and I are working with what we have, different sized locs and all.

Hey Mo, I have a similar situation. I went through the samething kinda. The person who started me after she started I realised that she was a loctician but not a sisterlock technician. Then for my first re-tighten, I wanted to switch and the new consultant grilled me over the phone, when I told her that I am sure the person can loc hair but I am not sure she is a sisterlock technician. The man who took me over said he would fix all the bad things in my hair only to find he is not doing so, therefore I have turned to a friend who can loc hair and is actually fixing the errors that were done to my hair including all the lumps that were created. I started my journey end of June last year. So now I haven't sppoken to the man yet mot sure how to broach that convo and I'm not sure I have sisterlocs or micro locs but I do love my locs and so does a lot of people. I have a similar texture to green thoughts , not even sure how many locs I have, go figure that. I am thinking to cut it off and start over

I would sue the person that did the sisterocks because they are the problem, not the sisterlocks brand. The sisterlocks brand is very clear and i mean very clear on what constitutes sisterlocks and how they are supposed to be done. It is the people who take the course and misrepresent the brand that are the problem. I have taken the sisterlocks course and paid a lot of money to do so and I dont appreciate people who dont have the ethics and morals to uphold the brand correctly after Dr. Cornwell has put a ton of time and energy and years into it proper establishment as a brand. . I took the course back in 2004 and I can tell you that we are told how we are supposed to operate properly under the sisterlocks brand. What this person did to you is horrible and unethical. If you become a consultant you have a responsibility to uphold the sisterlocks brand by installing the locks according to how the sisterlocks brand has taught you. If you are not installing accordingly then no the locks are not sisterlocks period. I dont understand how some people can go around pretending to do sisterlocks when they have no clue. The person who installed your locks should atleast pay you for the cost of the locks. This is just terrible. I hope Sisterlocks brand starts suing people for misrepresenting their beautiful and unique brand.

When its done right its wonderful, but when it goes wrong its always so tragic. Looking for a consultant in New York City, but only want to go to someone that loves what they do. And has great references. So sorry they messed up yours. God sent you someone who is more than willing to help you. You are blesed just be paitient. You will have what you want. But you need to get a total refund. I wish people would out the consultants who messed them up so others won't get taken advantage of. Stay well my sister.

Oh my Jesus! So sorry that this happened to you, it’s not fair to pay $1735 for what you want and not get what you want. I had microlocs and combed them out to get sisterlocs. The person I spoke with said she could do them. I told her the sisterloc average is 400 so I want 500. She agreed! I went to her and she didn’t do my grid right and she installed only 343 locs. I went out of the country because it was cheaper to do it in the Caribbean. Once she installed locs in the back of my hair and saw that she was short the 500 I requested she started to install smaller locs in the front of my hair. So I had big locs in the back & middle, and smaller locs in the front. I decided to fix it on my own. I combed out most of the locs and made them smaller in size, put them in braids. So instead of having the sisterlocs I wanted now I have 500+ braidlocs with a not so perfect grid. I have gotten over it and am now happy with my braidlocs. This is loc journey number 2 so I was determined to fix it myself. Though you didn’t get what you want, you will eventually get over it. Locs are more of a mindset than anything else. As the years go by your microlocs will grow on you to be fluffy and full. You should try to get some of your money back from that first consultant. She lied to you whether willingly or not, she lied. She didn’t know what she was doing. Cheers on your journey to beautiful healthy fluffy locs!

Your hair will turn out fine! You can always split them if you want by interlocking through the same loop. I would say this is a great example why anyone wanting sisterlocks should thoroughly research them first. I looked at soooo many grids on pintrest, videos, blogs, etc. I checked the progress on the way, asked questions etc lol. I had 545 and then combined them. Now I have like 270, I maintain the, myself....but I still call the, sisterlocks bc I still have my grid. Plus it’s what ppl think they are anyways. Best of luck. As long as you love them, it’s all good. But report chick to the Sisterlocks website. She shouldn’t be able to do this to anyone else!

WOW! Your story shook me!! I have SLs (5 yrs in July) I would be 38 hot 😡🤬😤if someone told me I didn’t have SLs. I think you should talk to your SL consultant who started your lock and let her know why you won’t be going back to her. The person who established your locks is on the SIsterlock website so you have sisterlocks point blank. If you love your locks that’s all that matters. I don’t believe the SL community will come after you bc another SL consultant said you don’t have SLs. If Dr. Joanne Cornwell says you don’t have SLs then you don’t have them. No one should tell You otherwise. Maybe she can’t tell you that bc she didn’t do your installation. Don’t stress over something you didn’t have control over. You did what you as a consumer was supposed to do: you did your research before made the decision to get SLs. Everyone who does SLs work will not be the same. Talk to your previous SL consultant to see how she will react to the information that was told to you. She may need additional training.Your new SL consultant did the right thing by telling you what she saw when she examined your locks. Stories like yours are starting to increase. There needs to be a solution to this growing problem. I don’t know how Dr. Cornwell will solve this problem but there definitely need to be examined.Stay strong my SL sister....your locks are beautiful!

This really made me sad. Sisterlock Company should make sure that the certified consultants are doing client's hair correctly. People say do you research and if they are on the registry; you should be getting what you are paying for. These Sisterlocks are so expensive for someone to say you don't have them when you paid a "Certified Consultant" to establish them. I am glad you like you hair. Did you ever talk to your previous consultant? What was her response?

I’m a Sisterlock trainee and my installs I use the hook tool not the latch tool. The latch tool I use to Retighten my own hair. Also I have never done an install with less than 400 locks. I have never used r4 to install just to start the loc. I think she wasn’t a active trainee or consultant. Always check the Sisterlocks site for a trainee or consultant to ensure the practitioner knows how to do it properly. We have to do recertification every 2 years. I’m sorry that you had to pay so much for locks that are not SisterLocks. This is not fair to you. You should ask for install money back and report her to the SisterLocks office with pictures of your hair and proof of payment.
