Reminds me of my glory days doing something similar back in high school, we where given a month in P.E. my senior year to do full contact combat as long as our weapons met larping safety rules so no metal cover in foam, wood was ok(they regretted that.). My men forced them to constantly change the rules around us because we couldn't be stopped, magic was allowed for a day until they found out how bad we broke the system(area of effect limb loss Is broken but it was approved) they also had a rule that armor was invincible I broke that with full head to toe armor so they removed armor from they removed armor from the rules on the spot, turns out they also didn't know my friend group in our kingdom had been doing full contact skirmishes with literal 2×4s for 3 year beforehand so we got skilled fast and I was deadly with a kusarigama my sia was bent 1" schedule 80 PVC in pipe insulation and the ball being a 4" wooden block covered in 2" of foam weighing 3 pounds, I domed 2 kids with it, but my fondest memories where one freshman that was running from me I swung the sia wide hooked his waist cloths lining him and I drug him back to me on the ground, and one kid had broke my sword, I took offense to that so I borrowed the 7' scythe I made for a friend with a 3' PVC blade and the next round I got behind the kid and did a full windmill slash upward right into his tant lifting him off the ground.

If it has an Adria legal fencing blade you can use whatever hilt style you want.

Captain Xavier what are the rules about fencing blades?

They have manual that outlines the rules. There are specific blades that are designed for medieval recreation fencing (HEMA, ARMA, SCA, EoA, etc) it has to be one of those blades and made by a reputable manufacturer. They are flexible and have blunted tips. Similar to Olympic fencing blades but wider, more blade like.

Captain Xavier I was just thinking that with a sidesword I’d be able to compete in rapier with a blade that had more cutting capacity. I’m only 14 so I can only do rapier and was hoping to go in with a side sword and rotella sheild.

@@jacobm.f.2451 worth a try. Slashing is allowed but because rapier is fought in light armor the blows must be minimal. This thrusts are more effective because they are faster and have longer reach. Since you can swing hard enough to muscle your way in a slashing heavy technique is likely to be ineffective in fencing.
