Ryan.. an alternative to using friends to storyboard and/or pictures is to use playdough. I've been doing this simply because I don't have friends on hand (close by) alot of times and playdough sort of models 3-D and you can plan out blocking and shots, perspectives and angles using the tiny models. That's my two cents.

Art students shouldn't feel obligated to work for free or purely for credits; that being said, a discounted rate could apply given the lack of experience.

I had to pause the video when OP encouraged seeking free work from artists - students, even -- people in vulnerable positions. They are easier to exploit, it's true. It's more advisable to learn storyboarding yourself instead of perpetuating unfair wages for "exposure". I recommend the Visual Story by Bruce Block and maybe going to a few figure drawing classes to further one's own draftsmanship.

Hey Ryan, I've been a fan of the show for a long time. You guys have helped me with many tips, particularly in the equipment category and I've passed on a couple of your videos to help friends of mine. I've been using a T4i DSLR with a 18mm-50mm lens for a while now and I notice that in some rooms of my house (a room that has red walls in particular) I get some visual noise off the walls. I can fix this a little in AE but is there a way to fix this in the camera? P.S TURBULENT DISPLACEMENT!

It's more than a little unethical encouraging people to get art students for their storyboarding - and making them EXPECT free work. As harmless as it seems it's difficult, even for established artists, to get work that pays their bills because so many AD's and Filmmakers think that it's totally okay to place less value on and underpay the people who help them develop their ideas. It's great that you're promoting artists, though, and that you've made it easy for people to understand the perks (and importance) of boarding. Perhaps just keep in mind that they are trying to make a living as much as everyone else and that YOUR passion project that you might be doing on low-to-no-budget isn't an excuse to expect an outsider to work for free. If you want free boards, do them yourself. Simple as that.

+Lacelette2D Ethics? If people don't want to do the work for free, they don't have to! Whether or not they choose to is a matter of preference and personal choice, not ethics. Every industry-creative, from artists to musicians to film makers have done a fair share of "free" work. If you don't want to work on something, just don't. In a world of unspeakable atrocities, stop whinging about people collaborating...
@MudlaneWorkshop
@MudlaneWorkshop 9 жыл бұрын
I phrased that wrong. What I'm talking about is more in regards to employment, as opposed to collaboration. If we're talking about someone who can afford it, but are reluctant to pay for artistic services (which, sadly, is pretty much the norm when it comes to many big studios). Perhaps I misunderstood when I watched this but it sounded to me more like he was talking about "hiring" than "collaborating" when he mentioned the above, art students "will do it FOR you for free", not "do it WITH you for free". Of course it's their choice, but the issue is that it creates a cycle that affects the rest of us. Sorry that you had to get offended by my first world problem but this is my bread and butter, so I do tend to take it a bit more seriously.
@kkfaerber
@kkfaerber 9 жыл бұрын
Not offended by your ignorance at all, but as someone who pays bills with a camera I know that there is plenty of options for collaborators in the industry

@HMG94
@HMG94 9 жыл бұрын
Noah Shriver Generally, you don't make KZbin videos to revolve around commercials... If you do, then you're going to have to write in mini-cliffhangers every so many minutes, and then time them to KZbin's policy on monetization. Find similar length, monetized, videos on KZbin and see when the ads generally play. But from what I've noticed, they're random in the sense that they're never in the same spot on different, same length, videos.
