Something I'm assuming you may know, but will share my experience anyway. I lived "Nomadic" until age 11, then got my first apartment at age 16. My entire military career was nomadic, not including the numerous overseas deployments. Nomadic in nature as well. The longest I've remained at one residence is my South Dakota home, close to 10 years. We're seeking a final retirement home base to downsize to. Being part time Nomads is a preferred lifestyle, despite aging and the ailments that accompany getting older. Therefore don't buy too much to fill up the," home base." Having less stuff makes the periodic moving and transitions so much easier. Example, at least 80% of the residents in our rural subdivision rent one or more local storage facilities. Despite having two-car garage and out buildings.

Congratulations on taking this next step and securing a "home base". After living in my 24' Class C full time for 5 years, I've finally purchased a park model (sort of like a tine home) as my home base. It's only 400sf, but has a huge covered patio area and an 8' x 10' shed. I LOVE it! But, what I love most.....similar to you.....is having a real kitchen again! I love the full size refrigerator and the full size range/oven with microwave above. There is plenty of storage and closet space throughout! Best decision I've made for what works for me. I'm (soon to be) 71 years old, travel solo and enjoy (most of) what life throws at me! I'm in Arizona! Maybe our paths will cross one day.....it would be fun to meet you in person. Keep on keeping on!

My family inherited a small cottage s few blocks from the beach. My husband and I lived there for the first 2 yrs we were married. It is only 600sq.’ Also and it is actually 2 tiny bedrooms with wardrobes because it was built in 1929. It has a tiny bathroom with a shower stall between the bedrooms. A decent kitchen and living room with a fireplace. It does have a wrap around porch which helps a lot. When we were kids that was where us kids slept. 600 sq feet is very livable. This sounds just right for you for now.

Your new home is stunning, I love the colours. I cant believe the cottage comes with a fridge, washer and dryer, you don't get that in Australia. I would love to see around your home state, I think a lot of your international viewers would love it( locations and food). Texas has some stunning State Parks. Being close to family is very important. Yard sales are the best, Second hand shops are great but can be expensive now that vintage is in fashion. Flea-markets are great spot aswell. You are not giving up your freedom, its a state of mind. You can visit anywhere you want. If you want to visit West or east coast wont be such long drive as you kinda live in the half way point. I am glad to see someone else enjoys eggs with Ketchup, my son thinks I am strange. The bath mats look really thick it will suck up all the water. I really love your wicker stools. Hi Amber, I like your new place and all your new stuff. If you get a small crock pot (around $10) you will save a lot of money making your own Ghee. Just put a pound of butter in it on low for an hour or two, the milk solids will go to the bottom, pour off the melted pure butter into a glass jar and refrigerate. Throw away the milk solids. It’s so easy.

I think your house is a perfect size. It has everything you need without being so big that you have to spend all your time cleaning. Texas is a good middle state you can go east or west when you get ready to take trips. Relax and enjoy your time decorating your house and spending time with your family.

I have your same van. I sold my house and left Chicago in 2019. By this past autumn I was ready for more comfort so I purchased a 30ft travel trailer, which I am now living in here in southwest AZ. It's been so cold this season that living out of the van would have been not pleasant. I too am keeping the van for traveling when it's too hot here. So good luck to both of us.

Congratulations !!! I think a 12 month reset will be great for you and you’re near family. The size of your rental is perfect for getting a real idea of how much space you want and need. Check out Craigslist for furniture also Ikea for rugs, drapes and hardware. Also check out the ooops section, it’s downstairs near the cash registers. They often have good priced items and you might find a score. I’m really happy for you, you seem really at peace with your decision and for me that is the best mind set for making good decisions. I hope find the perfect place for your tiny home.

Congrats! I met you a few years ago in a Colorado Walmart. I purchased a 429 sq. foot park model 2 months ago and I am also keeping my van. I had the exact same reaction about having an oven and the larger fridge . Totally relate to the echo. You made me laugh out loud! I never had heat, a/c, or running water in van, so I marvel every day at the conveniences of the simple things. Love my sticks and bricks. I will try traveling in the warmer months and see if it still appeals to me. Nice to have my van as a getaway option. Good luck! And the bath mat was also on the top of my list after my first shower.

Other van dwellers have been getting back into regular apartments too. Looks like 5, 6, 7 years is the length of time before they alter the van life they were doing. It's good to see these transitions.

We found a really nice dining room table and chairs with pads and leaves for only $65! I know that’s not what you’re looking for but there merchandise was better than goodwill and prices were much better

Hi. Christine here, up in Frisco. The Next Door app is pretty popular around here. They have a “marketplace” that people use to sell things. Sometimes there is some pretty nice furniture around Collin County…and probably Dallas County since that’s where you likely have your house. There also is a Goodwill near me but the resale store right across the street from it has nicer stuff and furniture…they are on Prestmont in Frisco. Let’s see if I can find the name….Grace Bridge Resale Store at Prestmont and Ohio Drive…if you get up this way. Bye!

That was fun! I'm a little space envious right now as I'm taking care of business in another town. The motorhome isn't quite ready for travel yet, so I'm van camping. I'll do almost anything to avoid hotels! I do hope you get another dog, I'm not suggesting that you do, but I hope you do. You just have a lot of love inside of yourself to share again. Hi first of all Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. You are still Story Chasing, because its your story. I for one am not going anywhere. I think it was a great decision for you. You can a feel for that amount of space and how you use it. Plus gives you a practice run in finding deals and decorating. I always tell people that have had a loss to wait a year before you make big decisions and that is exactly what you want to do. Plus it will help you decide more where you want to have your home base.

Happy for you. I lived in Dallas most of my life and retired and moved to central Texas about a year ago to be closer to my family. I miss Dallas a lot but like central Texas too. I know you have mentioned liking central Texas. I think a home base is really important and being close to family is too. Looking forward to seeing you put together your home and more adventures.

Moving at Christmas time. My mom did that one year. First thing my mom put up was her Christmas tree, decorated and she put her front door decorations up. Have a great time finding treasures.
