StoryStreet Amen! I’m sorry that the first response to you was one of hatred and it disgusts me that there are still people like him in our country. It’s kind of ridiculous that I’ve had to explain, to so many white people that whenever they say “All Lives Matter”, their racism shows a little bit more. The matter of the fact is that Japanese people aren’t being MURDERED by White cops over and over again, so no...in the current scope of things, Japanese American lives are not a matter of discussion! There are 5 times as many white people as black people in our country...so with just the last 4 black murders by cops/former cops trying to act like he’s still a cop...I’ve told those white people that if they can point out 20 white people murdered at the hands on cops in 2020...I’ll protest “All Lives Matter” alongside them! ‘Cause the reality is that they won’t find even 4 to match the black deaths, even though white people outnumber black people in our country by almost 5 times.

Indeed. The thing that makes me love this game is Ellie and Joel. I hope they make a game before the events of 2 as either an add-on or separate game entirely. I feel like that window represents nature taking back what it had. The plant growing to the point its going through the window of a house that should be occupied as well as the walls that should be clean and fresh now chipping out explains what type of situation this means. Nature will always win and take over what it once owned. And it did exactly that with the virus as well as the plant. Honestly, the picture of that window and the plant going through it is really beautiful. It shows how no matter what, Time will keep going and that no matter what everything will grow. Whether that’s the people infected or Beattie itself. Humanity will grow and will try to find a way to survive whether in the harshest ways or calmest. Its awesome.

That is always what has hypnotized me about TLOU's art direction. Both games, especially the second one, build off of preexisting landscapes and its reclamation of Earth from humans. It is mesmerizing to me looking at comparisons of TLOU shots versus actual shots they were based off of. It almost gives you a feeling of abandonment and peace simultaneously. It's so eerie but also so beautiful.

16:53 I disagree with your assessment of Tess. Tess was the only person Joel had left and her death greatly impacted him. Obviously he had a much deeper bond with Ellie. But to say Joel and Tess were nothing more than partners is an understatement if I must say. I think Joel and Bills relationship is a lot more like what you were describing for Tess.
@johnjoseph68743 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he meant that Joel and Tess didn’t have of a relationship. It’s just that if Joel didn’t need Tess for smuggling reasons, he wouldn’t have got close to her in the first place. Sure, they did grow closer during their time together and maybe even wanted to start something together, but for the most part, what brought them together and kept them together was business. At least that’s the case for Joel, sadly maybe not for Tess.

I first played the last of us, the remastered version in 2018 on my ps4 and I had the same reaction. I LOVED this game so much. I ended up playing on every single difficulty, including Grounded Plus (which was a nightmare). The story is absolutely amazing. I love how Neil Druckman kept the theme of “love” through the first game, and “hate” in the last of us 2. I also absolutely loved the last of us 2, despite all the controversy and backlash. I think they are both masterpieces in their own rights! There’s one thing I have a problem with though, I would play the second game more if it weren’t so long. Tbh it’s a commitment to get through an entire play through of the second game. And the music between both games is spectacular, I have some of them on my playlist. 19:09 So, now it's almost a year later, and being Ellie is, like, your favorite person ever (in fiction), what do you think of her journey in last of us part 2? There's been a lot of videos on it already, but ya got a good grasp of character growth here, so just what's your take on it? One point you're hitting here, is that she's afraid of being alone (spoilers for part 2): ...That's exactly what happens. She goes on a quest for vengeance, and in the end, realizes she's just hurting others and herself, with no direction or closure to Joel's death. Abby too, is the same: She lost her father, and like Ellie to Joel, he was her everything in this world - leaving her too, alone in it. She gets strong, because that's casting off weakness; She wants revenge and builds a body made for vengeance, losing herself to brutality, and by the end of it, after being held captive in emaciation and weaken to brittleness, she loses even that sense of herself in body and mind... letting go the hatred and who she was, in favor of living, as her father would have wanted... Ellie realizes too, that killing will not bring Joel back either, but living, honors his memory. In a sense, Abby's lust for vengeance is gone too because nothing was healed after she murdered Joel, and she only found something to live for afterwards, by protecting Lev. With Ellie, Ellie realized nothing could heal herself either of his passing, and they both release their swords, so to say, by finally letting go of the past, and trying to heal for a better future.... Only by the ending, as her fear is in the first game: Ellie is alone, because Dina left her and Ellie could no longer play the only thing left of Joel: The guitar and song he taught her. At this moment, Ellie is now complete in the cycle of finding her worst fear: Isolation, and no one by her side... Similar to Joel being afraid of finding love again for a daughter-figure, only in comparison, now Ellie is alone without a father. Sorry, this got too long, but as I see in comparison: Ellie and Abby are two sides of the same coin: Both lost and angry, without direction, just like Joel in Part 1, trying not to find purpose in that world of part 1.

Another interpretation of the title screen could be that the house represents Joel. It's dark and murky and seemingly no light penetrates through it except from the one window. Every time I see one pop up in my recommended I sit and think “I know exactly what they’re going to say,” but I click on it anyways because every time I’m proven wrong. I know the main beats: Ellie and Joel’s relationship, the brilliant story telling and game play, the ending, but every time there’s new perspectives and meaning pulled out from each person who retells the story. There’s always something different. That’s the beauty of the last of us. It’s a story that not only compels hundreds of people to create hour long dissections of it, but it cultivates such an incredible array of thoughts, emotions and meaning within every person who experiences it. It’s a story that tugs on our humanity and forces us to look into ourselves deeper than we might ever have. It just has that kind of impact.

This video reminded me of why i loved the game. Why it mattered to me, when i was young like ellie, and now when im older, still so scared and vulnerable. Things are so dark now, now more than theyve ever been in my entire life, most of our lives, and yet this video reminds me that its okay. That we can just keep going. Amazing video. Thank you.

25:31 I also love how Joel isn’t looking at or really listening to Ellie in the farmhouse scene. That is until she pushes him - which was improvised by Ashley Johnson - and that wall starts coming down.

Your videos are edited and narrated with the incredible precision of a born storyteller. Just incredible. I've played through TLOU at least 6 times. I've bought it twice and probably will again for the inevitable PS5 update. I've had the second game for months and yet have only played maybe 90 minutes into it because I couldn't handle parts of it. That's how much passion I have for this world, these characters and their stories: I actively avoid it because it's real for me. I've lived a lot of it (minus the cannibal mushroom people).

Men, ur video is awesome. I've played this game lots of times and u made me live it all over again, thinking about every detail, every message, it's pretty amazing. I guess years will go by and I'll never stop loving, getting so emotionally attached, caring and felling this game, such a masterpiece. Nice video, really loved it.

I'm under the impression it's clear ellie would have sacrificed herself, especially since joel has to lie because even to him it seems that's true and the general aura of everyone involved believe its true. With the alternative being that ellie just lives in a world that will continue to have rape and murder I find it's not ambiguous whether or not they should do it.
@ThatBisexualOverThere3 жыл бұрын
imo, it’s not supposed to be ambiguous, Joel makes an entirely selfish decision and the consequences is that no cure could ever be made. Ellie dying **might** have led to a cure or maybe it was a certainty, but it doesn’t matter cuz Joel’s selfish decision made it impossible.

@@ThatBisexualOverThere I've always thought it was strange why people are so hung ho on wanting to kill abby. It's cleartthat most people side with joel when the story didnt want you to and it feels like it led everyone to thinking it was a "betrayal" to the fans when in reality most people who thought they were fans of the first never actually were. You have people trying to justify why joel was right rather than looking at the most important problem: not even joel thinks what he was doing was good.

Okay but you have to think about this as well. And for defense, I want to bring up I Am Legend (The Book, not the Movie), because it's obvious that the creators learned nothing from the 2nd part by doing what they did. You see, the character Robert Neville is in this search for a cure, and that's what we the readers believe is the whole plot: "the cure" will save the world. But when reading, you are suppose to start and see that ship probably has now sailed. I mean, even if there is a tiny percentage of the population still alive, and can immunize all the survivors, what about the vampires (Dark-seekers in the film)? Sure, they only come out at night, but even then, they will f*** s*** up. And perhaps it's possible that they cure the vampires, but to cure that many of them? How are they going to restrain all of them so they don't go ape-s***? And what happens to a vampire once they are cure? You think they going to be turned back into human and be all chill? OR ARE THEY GOING TO LOSE THEIR MINDS WHEN THEY REALIZE THAT THEY'VE SPENT YEARS RUNNING AROUND KILLING AND EATING PEOPLE FOR SEVERAL YEARS? Honestly, if you are one of them, you have to think about the consequences that will occur because you think you're gonna be all right after what you just went through. Especially since probably the humans have already killed about half of those infected. You see in the book, in the 3rd act, Robert meets Ruth (she's called Anna in the movie, and she has no son, FYI *SPOILERS*), who happens to be infected, except this time, like Ellie in Last OF Us, didn't turn into one of the creatures. She says their are more of just like her who are intelligent and have formed a society, even making medical advances to prevent them from getting killed from the virus. Now throughout the story, it doesn't focus on the cure, but more on how the virus has continued to change the world. Making the hope for a cure sound meaningless. But how does this affect the rest of the story? SPOILER ALERT When Robert learns from Ruth of this new way to fight the virus, he asks to join Ruth. But then suddenly, the vampires arrive and capture and imprison him. When Robert asks Ruth, who is not very fazed by this, what is going on, she tells him that she planned this and that they're not letting him go because for over the past few years he's been systematically killing, experimenting, and hunting them down. So they're not going to simply be kind to him. Ruth even mentions that it was he who killed her husband. She tells him that this "new society" has now made their judgement and order him to be executed. Robert is now left in despair and lost. So Ruth decides to show mercy on him and offers him suicide pills so his death is less suffering. Robert asks her to promise and not let this new generation be heartless, which she says, "I'll try.". And in the closing passage Robert watches as he sees the vampires now watching him with faces of hate and a want to kill him and decides that he will be "legend", just like how the vampires were to humans, as the monster that killed many of them. HE IS THEIR LEGEND. And that's what THE LAST OF US PART 2 failed to learn. There is no cure. Because THEY ARE THE LAST. There is no escaping what the population has become. We even get a point of view on how in the first, how killing turns Joel or any survivor into wat they are. THIS IS WHAT THE NEW WORLD IS. You have to kill to survive, whether you're human or infected.

@@osmanyousif7849 I'm not sure why you wrote this. You bring up an entirely different piece of fiction as if it explains why its a problem in the last of us. Do you use this argument to justify covid? You wrote so much when all you had to say was you thought last of us 1 sucked.

I've never really hear anyone say it's just cutscenes when that's clearly not true. A ton of character development and world building is literally not in cutscenes. The character and story of Ish is so fascinating that I consider one of my favorite characters and hes entirely only known through pages you find in game. Who would be so ignorant to claim it's just cutscenes.
