See, when I was a kid, there were places to hang out and it was okay for a bunch of teens to hang out. Now they're cutting down on safe places for teens, or it's places not appropriate for teens (restaurants, libraries, etc). The only option is online apps now.

I remember when I was a teen - I didn't drink but I did go with a few of my friends to "hang out and drink beer" a few times- manly to be that one sober person that watches over the group - we are kinda lucky in that regard in a way- you see there was a war raging over this place and there are still old bunkers left scattered around here, rural place - and nobody cares about those bunkers in the forest so they are one of the only hangouts for teens over here because we used to be able to go to the river and around a factory that is closed at the night but I don't think that people can go there nowadays, you can still hang out around those bunkers I am pretty sure- that is if you are brave enough to go through forest to get to them.

It is so amazing how we can be separated by decades (I am 25) and grew up in completely different settings (I grew up in NYC) and yet, have such similar memories of growing up. You guys hung out in your local college student center, I hung out at fast food restaurants/supermarkets or subway stations. I spent my middle school years specifically at a taco bell that had an empty lot behind it where we'd walk to from our middle school and just chill... and inadvertently create the funniest/stupidest memories. This generation is growing up in such a different environment, I am curious as to what kind of memories they are making to look back on decades from now. Working in a middle school now (the same one I went to, ironically) and seeing how they hang out recreationally, I don't see them being like ours.

I used to collect call the hell out of my parents from payphones in my teen years. My system was free though, When it asked to say your name, I would just say the number to the payphone. Old school life hack.

Mr. Haney was the funny talking guy in green acres. A sort of Carpetbagger. Show was current when I was a kid. We all used to try to imitate his talking.

I would like to remind you, all teens or lower using the app also go to school. Meaning half their day, they are forced to socialize and communicate. So having after school conversations on video not only does not affect the skills of socialization, but it allows kids to talk more with each other due to the lack of constraint such as needing a ride somewhere.

I kind of do the hang out thing with my best friend where we don't talk but are still on FaceTime. But we are both in college and I am in Indiana and she lives in Los Angeles. It is kind on nice to just be with someone you are comfortable with and not have to talk.
