Storytime! My Experience With Paradise Home Improvement (Not ASMR)

This video isn't my typical sort of thing, but I wanted to make it to let others know about my experience with Paradise Home Improvement, a company based in South Carolina. These experiences are my own, and I do not speak for any of their other customers, their employees, or anyone affiliated with the company.
I've also filed my complaint with the BBB and left a Google review.

I initially wanted Paradise to do the sides of my house, too, so they'd match. The sides, dormers on the front, and the back would all be done in the same material. I decided after this whole mess to go with having primed Hardie board installed on the sides and dormers in the front by another (hopefully better) company. That Hardie board will be painted to match the back in color. It's not what I wanted, but it's the way I decided to go after the mess that Paradise Home Improvement made of the back of the house.

I have experienced the subcontractor scam myself after being promised "we train and use our own people". Luckily for me it turned out fine but I will be much more judicious in future. So sorry you are going through this Mary.

I busted out laughing as soon as I read “Paradise Home Improvement” because this shit show of a company has sent advertising representatives (uninvited) to our vendor events recently at work, to the point where we’ve created an inside joke about them. I work in western NC and we host several craft fairs a year and TWICE we’ve had these guys just show up wanting to know where their booth was and I had to argue with them that I would have never accepted them because these events are for crafters only. They stood there and called corporate and finally after 30 minutes I had to tell them that no matter how many times they tried to convince me that I accepted a home improvement company among a sea of woodworkers, quilters, and artists, that they would not have a booth at our shows not now, or ever. Sounds like gaslighting is their angle. So sorry you had such a poor experience with them but sadly, I am not surprised.

I've followed this nightmare from the start. But having it all laid out in chronological order, and seeing the complete picture, really shows what a nightmare its been. I'm so glad you made this video. Maybe it will save others who might be looking to use them for their home improvements.

I would argue that this still counts as ASMR, lol! You are so calm, cool, and collected. Your voice and energy are still soothing and I enjoy the shuffling of papers sound and whispering to yourself as you search for something in your papers. Reminds me of a boss I had that gave me serious ASMR before I knew what it was.

Yep, precisely this point. I work in a manual trade, and want to get out for this reason. My boss just can't get the staff and despite his best trying to train and retain workers, there just ends up a revolving door of unskilled guys who come and go, work short contracts for the company, do shit work, and damage peoples property which others in the company then have to fix. I don't know what the solution is really though, because it seems no one wants to work in trades anymore or do hard labour. And it ends up stressful for those who have to try and work with such colleagues, and who have a shred of moral conscience towards the customer. At least the company I work for is honest, I guess that's the main thing setting them apart from this example.

I looked up on YELP for Paradise Home Improvement located in South Carolina and they have an overall 1.5 stars out of 5 based on 38 reviews which is as bad as it gets for a business with many complaints and poor customer experiences.

I once was verbally and physically abused at a dirty dentists office with blood spatter on the overhead light. I left crying, I filed with the BBB and they said because I was there with my health assistance from the government that they wouldn’t do anything because I wasn’t a “true paying customer” 😢

Out of curiosity, I went to their Google reviews. If you read through them you’ll find a pattern, about 1/2 of them start off exactly the same with the same salespersons name that he “came to my home in …city and state” and then go on to say nice things and give them five stars. Basically the reviews read as scripted, there’s no way that that many people started off their review exactly the same way with the exact same sentence.

Ok...first of all, I feel for your situation as a woman homeowner..I'm a single woman homeowner myself and the number of times I've been bullshitted by a tradesman...I just started doing as much work myself as I could. I have the same stuff as you had on your house and eventually it will need to be replaced...a job I can't do myself, and I pray my experience goes smoother than yours did. Secondly..I've watched a ton of your videos and I never thought I'd be laying in bed while hearing you drop TPB names. I live in Nova Scotia, home of the Trailer Park Boys, and furthermore, I know most of them! My best friends brother plays Ricky (Robb Wells), Mr. Lahey (John Dunsworth-RIP) was my neighbor before he passed, and I used to party with J-Roc and Cory back in the day....so funny. While the story was not meant to be entertaining, I couldn't help but be a little because of my associations.

I had a similar experience when getting our roof slate replaced, brought the company in went on holiday for 2 weeks for a birthday was told the job would complete by our return home. Got back to find the scaffolding was still there and the roof hadn’t been touched, got rid of them the next day. I drove past a house a few days later that had they’re roof just done and got a recommendation from them, I do it for all major jobs now, find an example of a home you drive past and just give them a knock on the door or a note in the mailbox. I like smaller local companies as they seem to have more pride in their work, after all they live in the same community.

Holy shit what a story. My mom had a similar story with her house, the workers were all men and would tell her nothing she thought was wrong was wrong. Well, they ended up having to refund her for all their “work” cause they broke her pipping lol.

OMG! I just had some siding put up and had a wonderful experience with the company I used. I am so sorry for you because I have had difficult times with other installers in the past. Omg, this is horrible. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. You have to have nerves of steel to go through something like this. I really hope you have an awesome experience with next company. It seems like we have to breathe on the worker's necks in order to get it right, not all of them, but many. I've had heating panels installed and in one room I've told the "boss" to install it on the right side of the wall. I didn't just say it, I've pointed to that spot and he understood and agreed. I went to take the Covid test and when I came back (15 minutes later!) a worker already drilled holes for the panel holder on the far left side. I was fuming. They didn't close/repair the holes, it was all left like it never happened and I have to fix it myself. After that incident I was there watching them do everything. I don't really care if the workers are young, but they were truly working like they're in a cartoon. They had to put on some canals for the cables and I couldn't help but laugh at them. Mind you, I've put many canals for cables (and installed cables) across my house for internet and I know it's not rocket science. The thing is that I'm a woman and when I was buying them I got looks like "what are you doing with that, lol" 😕 and I've installed them better then they did. Oh, well.

I have a story as long and painful as yours, but without the positive resolution at the end. It involves a car repair shop that had recently opened in my town. I like to give my dollars to local businesses, so I went to them for repairs to the SUV I used to drive (now long since donated to a charity so they could sell parts from it). I won't mention the name of the shop because the horrible human being running the business moves around and opens shops with different versions of his name, so it won't help. What I will say is that I eventually ended up having to get the owner of the building where, let's call him Tyler, operated his shop to unlock it one day, with police present, to get my disassembled SUV out. Then, employees of the Meineke shop a few doors down helped me and a friend PUSH the dead SUV to their shop to get put back together again. I lost about $400 I paid Tyler to work on my car... he'd say it was fixed, I'd drive it away, I'd realize something was very wrong and drive back to the shop, and they'd take it apart again and tell me I needed to pay for some parts and the vehicle would sit there, on a lift, for days with nothing being done. Many days, the shop was empty. I lost several days of income from not being able to work without transportation (I was a caregiver for the elderly and disabled and thank God, the company found people to cover for me and didn't fire me). It finally cost me an additional $400 for Meineke's to fix everything Tyler and his mechanics BROKE on my car, but I was blessed with a $100 check from a church organization's emergency transportation fund and another $200 on my Go Fund Me page. (I'm in my 60s, disabled and live on Social Security). Thank God there are more generous and kind people on this planet than jerks like the ones you and I, and so many others, have had to suffer. I think your nightmare is worse than mine, because it went on so much longer, involved SO MANY people, and resulted in serious damage to your home. I would have had a mental collapse. Unlike you, I did NOT check out this garage owner until AFTER the sh*t hit the fan and was horrified by the other stories I saw on Yelp and the BBB website. So, what I've learned is to check, check and check reviews and references right from the get go, to take photos of everything BEFORE any work begins, to document the sh*t out of the work as it's going on (make people sign stuff, get receipts, etc.) and then, God help me, do more photos and documentation after it's been botched (use a notebook, like you did!). These horror stories SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. And like you found out, filing a complaint with the BBB might light a fire under unscrupulous company owners but ultimately the BBB cannot do anything. I was told to file a complaint with the state agency that licenses mechanics, which I did. I also tracked down the company where Tyler had a day job and spoke with his boss about what happened to me. Whether that had any impact, I don't know. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I hope it gave you some relief and satisfaction being able to tell your story. Thank you for being very civil in the way you presented it. I am so freakin glad you got reimbursed for everything and got your deposit back. Like you said, I think unethical business people DO try to wear unhappy customers down in hopes they will just go away. I learned from my nightmare experience with Tyler and friends to be like a burr in your underwear if you sell me crap or don't fulfill your end of a transaction. I contracted with Paradise Home Improvement to replace all my windows. The workmanship was so shoddy and one window doesn't match. Its been 9 months and nothing has been done to correct these issues. No one answers the phone.... or the answering machines are full.... or if I get to leave a message no one calls back....I am so upset. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. How they continue to stay in business is a mystery to me.!!!

Not that line of work, but when my mom bought a new house she hired painters to come and paint. They literally sat in our house while we were all at work and goofed around and barely painted. And when they did, it wasn’t a good job. My mom could have done a better job! We fired them and she lost so much money
