I feel your pain with the hours of results day crying! I was predicted ABB and ended up getting CCC!! But the course I did (Radiography) was more heavily weighted by interview so they still gave me a place at my first choice. 2 years post graduation and I'm a few weeks away from starting Graduate Medicine so anything is really possible, even with "bad" A-Levels!! :)

I genuinely needed to hear this so much after results day, I was predicted AAA and needed AAA for medicine at Southampton but I got ABB and it really shocked me. Dichromatic I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out as you expected! Honestly though, in my first hand experience with doctors, Grad Medics are by far the best doctors! My advice is mainly not to rush it, you don't want to go through an undergrad not enjoying it or using it for it's full potential just because you're set on medicine. I have a website that has a few more tips too if you want to check it out :) www.scientificwomen.co.uk Best of Luck!!

I’m in America and my college/university experience was somewhat similar. I had my eyes set on this one university from the day I visited as a Junior in high school. I figured that there was no way I wouldn’t get in seeming as how everyone I spoke to said it was the easiest university to get into in the region. Lo and behold, once senior year and SAT’s rolled around I ended up not making the marks I needed in order to get in. I was rejected promptly thereafter and I remember going to the university admissions office in person with my parents and talking with one of the advisors simply telling her that regardless of the reason I did no get in, I would make it my sole priority to attend one day. I worked my ass off at community college for 2 years, and applied in the winter of 2018. March 2019 rolled around and I got my decision letter. After all the work I had put in at a “inferior” institution with no glitz or glamor where I just kept my head down and worked nonstop taking 5-6 classes a semester along with summer courses. After all that work I ended up getting accepted to my dream university that I had set my heart on 3 years ago and I will start my first semester there as a transfer student this fall which really just goes to show that regardless of where life takes you, you will always find a way through the hardships so long as you keep moving forward. Oh, and ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP PLAN.

Clearing happens if you miss your offer and the uni rejects you or you didn't apply to go uni. In the UK, you apply with the predicted grades not your actual grades. When you get your actual grades, then they firm or reject you. It's a bit different here.

@Stefan-jk5gx
@Stefan-jk5gx 4 жыл бұрын
@@shreyassingh2503 Satisfying predicted scores doesn't really matter. When unis accept your offer, they then give you conditions that you have to satisfy when you get your results. If your grades don't satisfy the conditions, then there is a chance that you won't get into that particular university.

I rate this video so much. There’s just an insane amount of pressure for students to achieve top grades and there’s so many videos of people getting accepted by multiple top universities which in reality doesn’t happen for a lot of people and this video does an amazing job highlighting the reality which a lot of people have to deal with and the truth is it doesn’t matter if you don’t get into your dream university and you can still enjoy yourself and be happy even if things don’t go to plan. Enjoyed the video I know it’s late but keep it up! :)

Having a plan B is the most useful advice you could give, honestly. Sometimes we don't worry about what could happen if something doesn't go as planned, but it's super important to have a backup plan just in case our first choice fails. And the same happened to me with my History results, because I got a 6 out of 10 (Spanish grading system) when I used to be a 10 out of 10 student, and I've never been angrier and sadder in my entire life. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your story!! Lots of love xoxo

As someone who didn't get into my first choice and had to go through clearing, I have to say this is the best video I've ever seen on the topic. I was devastated at the time but I am now happy to say that I am a trainee solicitor in a great firm in the city. I'm sure that's due in no small part to the fantastic support I received at the uni I got into through clearing. I also think going through something like this at a young age is really character building and lets you know that a lot of what happens to you in life is down to how you deal with tough situations.

This speaks to me, even being from Australia. My first choice was just based on the fact that I wanted to go to the best university near me but I got my third choice and it was actually a godsend. I would have only been able to study one speciality at my first choice, but the program for my career choice at my university was actually so diverse and was actually in the top 20 the world for my choice of study when I was enrolled. I would never have gotten the job I love just a couple days after finishing my degree. I would never have made the same industry connections which is so important because the industry is so small where I live. My university also just offered so much more diversity and opportunity than I would have ever gotten at my first choice, and I look back at that girl from 7 years ago and think she was insane. I had just wanted the best but that wasn't what was best for me!

I'm so jealous in the U.K you can apply to law programs straight after high school. In Canada, you have to complete your Bachelors (4 year degree) and sometimes even with honours, to be eligible to apply for law school. It's the same with Med schools here too :(

So glad this video exists. Summer 2017 I got my a level results. I had applied for Biological Science which was BBB. After my exams and leading up to results day I had started to doubt my choices. I ended up getting AAC and was rejected from my first choice. I was absolutely heartbroken but I decided to listen to the doubts I was having and rejected my back up choice. I took a year out, repeated the C grade and turned it into a B. I completely changed my direction, applied for diagnostic radiography and thankfully got in. And I can honestly say it was the best decision I have made to date. I'm currently half way through my 1st year and I couldn't be happier. It just proves that everything happens for a reason because I honestly feel like I am currently exactly where I am meant to be and I have zero regrets.❤❤

I had a specific law school in mind because it was the big school in my state but just being around the students made me feel uneasy and like 'I wasn't worthy' which sucks but then I went to an event for another law school and the environment was such a family style and everything about the school felt right. I start in the fall and I'm so excited

I’m so glad you spoke about this , I have my heart set on Kings College London . However my gcse grades are lower than their expectations. I need to get in my head that it may not happen but to look at other choices x

Hi, just to let you know, I attended an Oxbridge q&a a few days ago, and the tutors there said that while they will look at your GCSEs, it's more to see if you have a positive gradient when they're compared to your € levels. I don't know how much lower than expected your grades are, but I can tell you that you don't need to give up just yet! Try hard at a level (which hopefully will be more enjoyable anyway) and King's is definitely still an option!

Lovely video Eve! I really could have used something like this before my results day. Anyone reading this before results day this year, my top advice is to act fast and cry later. There is soooo much choice in clearing and it's totally not the end of the world if you miss your grades but definitely have a plan in place. UCAS have a clearing search tool, I'd recommend to search by university rather than by course at first because there are soooo many places. I went through clearing in 2016 having missed my firm.( I made loads of mistakes and my firm and Insurance were the same). Decided to take a gap year and that was the best decision ever. Fast forward 2 years, I've just finished my first year at ucl doing the course I wanted at the university I wanted. The gap year personally helped me sooo much and I'm glad I didn't settle for another degree in clearing.

This story was honestly kind of relatable. Last year I got back my VCE results (your end of yr12 school results if you live in Victoria, Australia) and I did bad. Like a lot worse than I was expecting and ended up getting into my last of 8 uni preferences. Anyways I did the course I got into for a semester (the first half of this year) and as soon as I could I applied for transfer to what had always been my dream uni and dream course (also my original first preference). I then worked really hard at the uni I ended up at (this uni which I, in the end, hated, it messed with my mental health and the course wasn’t right for me) and eventually my hard work paid off and I got into my dream course at my dream uni, which I’m currently at now and I’m so happy and I’m loving it so much. Proof that it always works out in the end 😌

Eve, I am in med school and normally just watch for entertainment but this has actually helped a lot. I also did not get into my preferred schools and instead into one I wouldn't consider my least favourite but pretty far down the list. However, there is plenty of opportunities here to learn practical and soft skills, if (!) I take the time to do so. You reminded me, that my skills at the end of this time are my responsibility, so thank you.

I remember the time when I actually passed the exam in my dream school and was supposed to study Filmmaking but it was too expensive so I resorted to thinking how I can at least help my parents with financial (by saving up a huge amount of money) and risked my dream study/work. I passed in that school and now I’m a fourth year student (graduating) and have no fees/tuition to pay at all! It is a blessing ♥️

Final year student about to graduate here and honestly I’m so glad I didn’t get into my first choice. Half way through my degree I realised I didn’t like my course and I would have been tied into a much longer degree doing something that doesn’t make me happy had I gone to my first choice. It might feel like the end of the world if you don’t get into your first choice or even your insurance, but I promise, it will all be okay. Also unis know that they will take students through insurance/clearing so don’t worry about accommodation or registering, it’s really not a problem.

I’m looking for law schools I can go to for exchange in a year or so and I was worried about the uni itself, like if it was good enough for it to make an impression for future employers. What you said is right, it’s not about the institution itself (as long as they support you), it’s about how someone is as a person and how driven they are, that makes the impression. Thanks for giving a struggling law student some help😅

I really start applying to universities starting next month (in the US), and while our education systems are different I still found this video very helpful and informative! I'm super nervous that I may not get into my first choice school but even if I don't, I need to know that it'll be okay. (Even though I'll probably cry a lot lol) It's also super interesting that you guys can only apply to 5 universities, here you can apply to as many as you want (but many people don't apply to too many because of application fees). I plan on applying to 9 I believe, but I have also heard some crazy stories of people applying to 30+ schools!

it's super interesting to me to hear about results day and the processes leading up to uni itself bc in Canada it's completely different! Much less organized haha but regardless I would not want to go through the uni admissions process again...so stressful! I love that you're sharing this story right now because it's so relevant! We love a helpful motivational queen. I'm such a firm believer in where you end up is where you're meant to be (even though it might not seem like it at the time!). I didn't get into my first choice school either, but the uni I'm at now has my entire heart and I feel so lucky to be there. If it's meant to be it'll be, ya know? (not saying not to work hard and just hope for the best instead lmao)

I got into my first choice but to do a foundation year in chemical engineering rather than going into 1st year, and I honestly don't regret doing an extra year, if I hadn't I wouldn't have understood my course at all because I didn't do physics and now I'm working for a really big engineering firm, your university doesn't define you at all. It's all down to the effort and you networking you put into your course and meeting people who can help you progress in a career you want.

hi, know I'm a little late to this video - I'm in year 11 and have my results day in August, and I've really been worried about it. Knowing that there are always options does ease my nerves a little bit, especially knowing that I just need to open my mind to other prospects. Similarly to you, I have a plan, of wanting to go to 6th form, and then go to university and do an architecture course - and for me, it's fundamental that I stick to that. It's really refreshing knowing that I don't need to, and there's always a way to get around it. Good luck to anyone getting their results this year!

Different story but I got an offer for biotechnology at one of the main universities. Quickly realised I need to take a year off to be able to be financially stable during my first year and ended up doing mechanical engineering at a completely different university. Never expected to end up in the place I am now but I think this was the best way it could have been for me and I couldn't be more happy about the path I chose. Now doing third year and writing my dissertation, hopefully graduating soon.

I had a slightly odd experience on results day. I firmed Durham law and had KCL as my insurance (a leetle bit random, couldn't choose between them but knew I hated UCL so rejected that lol). Got my results, A*AA, same req for both, got into Durham but had a sudden panic that it was too far away from home for my pathetic southern arse. Phoned them up (on hold for 4.5 hours to then be accidentally hung up on, a tear was shed) and the woman said that they were so oversubscribed that they were rejecting people who had firmed and gotten the required grades (so it was a no to me getting Durham to release me). Just seemed kind of bizarre and I can't imagine how it felt for those who got the grades for their firm but didn't get in. I stopped being a tit and I'm excited for Durham but there's something about the stress of results day and the pressure schools put on students that just makes so many people feel like they're definitely going to die or might as well become a goat herder in Bavaria, even if they did alright
