That's crazy stuff man. We live in the middle of a very populated city and every Monday night when we put the trash out on our street for pickup, there's a Coyote that comes to see what he can get into. He knows exactly what day we all put our trash out, animals are awesome.

When I lived in Pittsburgh, there was an escaped convict who was caught behind my house. Had the helicopters and police on foot chasing him. Made the local news too. Scary for sure!

Remember seeing a video of the aftermath from this: Family lived in a rural area like where you are. Came home from grocery shopping and didn't feel like unloading everything from the car until the next day. Sound asleep and wake up to a loud crash and a car alarm. Looked out the window from the second floor bedroom to find the car was no longer parked near the house, but crashed into trees in a ravine away from the driveway. Turns out a smart, "resourceful" bear, like you described was able to smell the food inside, broke into the car, and managed to knock the gear shift into neutral while eating the food and destroying the seats and the rest of the interior. Bear got to go for a ride while eating, until the car slammed into a tree, totaling it. Then the bear left the scene of the crime. Imagine trying to describe this to your insurance company!!!

I actually have a story similar to this. I literally just moved into my first house (that's under my name). Its across the street to farmlands and that night I heard a car alarm going off from my garage. I grabbed my gun and ran across my house with it where my parents, brother and my girlfriend all saw me running to the garage like I'm heading to war. I open the door and saw my old wooden garage door was open and theres a small cow sleeping against my car. My father went and ask the closest farmer if it's theirs and found out that the cow is use to sleeping against an abandon car before it was towed away a couple days prior. We're guessing that the cow got loose, saw my car, thought it was the abandoned car, and slammed into it to get cozy. We have no idea how it open the garage door but the farmer got a good laugh at it.

I live in a pretty rural part of southern nj and my house backs up to a state forest. Its nice living in the woods but i do sometimes worry at night that some hobo or crazy guy living in the woods will get cold or desperate and try to get into my house. Ive taken alot of safety precautions and im well armed but its still scary to think about. My goal is to eventually move deep into PA though.

When you live in area with bears you don't eat in the car, leave food in the car or have bird feeders. Bears will smell it all and go for it. Once they get food on your property they will be back. If you don't deter or scare them off then you're on a slippery dangerous slope.

I used to always have a scanner on and was very proficient with how to use it and understand what was being communicated. Now, absolutely everything related to emergency services anywhere near me (Police, ambulance, and most fire depts.) are digitally encrypted at all times.

My wife and I agree on nothing other than the door is locked at all times. I’m not paranoid nor is she but it just makes sense. Unlocked car doors are the equivalent of chumming for fishing.

I keep my doors locked too as most burglaries happen during the day when people are out and about. I reccomend magnetic alarms on the corner of the door set to just at triggering distance so that a criminal is struggling with the alarm takes 20 to 30 seconds.

Im in NEPA and the bears here also absolutely know the trash night, know how to open dumpsters and cans. They never hurt anyone but it's definitely an annoyance. Our trash has fed many a bear lol.

I despise thieves. We work hard for what we have. I don't buy things for other ppl to just take it. I lock my doors as soon as I walk in my house as well. You just never know what ppls intentions are. I live in a city where home invasions and a lot of thieves.

Locking while inside is a good idea for everyone. I was doing a service call yesterday and had to park next house down. Digging for tools and parts in my truck and then proceeded back into the house.. I thought. Not paying attention walked up to neighbors house and almost walked in, but it was locked. Tried to open twice before it clicked that the front door was different and as I was walking to the correct house they opened and I waved said sorry ,they went back in with no incident. But, had that house been opened and the owner armed, it could have been a really bad day for all involved . Moral of the story. Lock your door Happy Thanksgiving 🦃

Years ago I was home during the day and was washing the dishes, it was around 1-1:30 in the afternoon. There was a knock at the door, so I went to answer it. I was slow in getting the door because I had to stop and dry my hands. When I finally got to the door I could see my door knob jiggle in someones attempt to turn the knob, but the door was locked. I quickly yanked the door open and there was this late teens early 20's Asian kid there with a clipboard. He was surprised by my sudden yanking open of the door. He started instantly spouting off about if I was happy with my internet service. I demanded to know why he was trying to open my door, but He quickly changed the subject. I stopped talking and stared very intently at him. He asked me why I was staring at him. I told him it was just in case there were any robberies or home invasions in the neighborhood that I remember EVERY detain of his face so I can describe him to the cops. He then ended the small talk and walked away very quickly. Amazing what people will try during the daytime.

One year about a decade ago my husband was hospitalized & I was home all by myself & once it got dark outside I would get spooked lol So, I wanted to be able to hear if someone came into my front door so the only thing that I knew for sure that I'd hear is breaking glass so I lined up a set of my wine goblets in front of door lol. I agree fully it's very different. I've never fealt I needed a gun for safety and I've lived in numerous mega-cities and my experience they were the nicest people. That handled things accordingly not much police involved unless it was unwanted. Which usually it was to save the people commiting the crimes from the citizens.

When I lived in hemlock maybe 4 or 5 years ago there was a lot of break-ins . My neighbor who was a single mom who slept with most of the security guys . She would steal my lawn decorations when we wasn't there. And my last straw was when I noticed a knitted blanket one of a kind went missing was spotted on her porch. No one would listen to me so I moved. Got tired of over paying community fees all the rules lol

Many years ago what made me start carrying a firearm was a couple in a middle class area were murdered. When they finely found the people that did it they sad they killed them people because their house was the first house they walked up to that was unlocked. I know it was a black bear. They are smart.
