This is a full independent review of the Stovax Futura, we test the stoves real world performance in:
Clean glass
Fuel economy
Ease of lighting
And controlling
I also give my views and a bit of background information. The videos are designed to be quick with only the key information, but you are welcome to ask questions in the comments.
We are a little independent channel that started doing this purely for a love of the industry. Over time it has become what we do, and we have been fortunate enough to cover our costs and make living. This is achieved through:
Manufacturers sending us stoves, that they allow us to keep.
Some paid work, making videos for KZbin or a manufacturers own website.
Your views and the ad revenue generated.
and our little shop here on KZbin.
Thank you so much to all of you for your support!!!
If you would like any further information about the stove or us please feel free to drop me a comment or you check can out the manufacturers page here:

One question that comes up for me in this and most of your reviews: what makes this an evening/weekend stove? What would happen if you tried to run this all day/night through the winter? I'm a newbie with a Stovax Futura 5 that I would like to make the most of next winter.

Good question! This could be a number of things: A stove isn’t very tough and won’t take intense use. Its design could dictate that it needs to go out to manage the ash, or in clog things etc. Also it may just not be designed to close right down and make leaving it for 10 hours at a time easy. This stove could run overnight, but it is something the user would need to learn and prepare for (so not super easy). This stoves grate (if you have it) is also one that needs some manual clearing, and finally the construction is not focused on this type of use. None of these are actually bad things. It’s like saying a sports car is less good because of its fuel economy and practicality. That’s the point, it is the right tool for a different job, and this stove is similarly very focused on getting the look and feel down. Managing the air to create a fantastic back up and focal point, rather than a workhorse which has a very different ethos built into its design.

A stove with a cool handle,,wish our clock had a cold handle although to be fair that is the only fault with our clock stove. This looks really nice .

Yea it is missing on the Clock, but as you say it’s still fantastic. This stove has some different focus’ and getting the style, look and feel was high on their list of priorities.

Looks great. Are you running it through a 5 or 6 inch liner ?

Another great review! Could I request a review of the Charnwood Haven, or other new style mini-oven stove?

Great suggestion! I’d love to look at some of these, although I do have a proper cooking stove coming soon already.

Another great video- thanks. I’m looking for a cylindrical style stove for a corner setting in a large open plan room. Aiming for a modern design but also something that’s efficient and for “serious use.” Are these things compatible with each other?! Anything you’d suggest?
@TheTortoise

There aren’t many cylindrical stoves with serious use in mind, but how big is the room you’re trying to heat?
@tomwalters5069
@tomwalters5069 2 ай бұрын
Yeah I thought that might be the case. About 120m2 - open plan kitchen and living room
@TheTortoise
@TheTortoise 2 ай бұрын
Well the best I’ve seen is definitely the Scan-Line 900 given your intended use. There are lots more options with stoves on log-stores, but as far as proper cylindrical stoves.

Got to say, really reminds me of my Hampton 5, love the control but agree with a previous comment, I’d like to see the feet a bit more beefier, look a bit too slender? I have a question please, if a stove is Defra approved can it be shut down fully once it’s up to temperature or as I suspect is it just the case of monitoring it to see if it runs correctly? Kind regards Tony
@TheTortoise
@TheTortoise 2 ай бұрын
DEFRA approved stoves typically have a block that prevents you from closing the stove down too far (other times, they will have an extra hidden air vent that is permanently open. This will typically be nearly impossible to remove without the stove being cold and removed from the fireplace, so removing it when hot would not really work. This would also not be legal as a DEFRA stop, would be requirement if: You live in a smokeless zone. Or You have the stove fitted on a 5” system.

Personally, I don't like the 2 bits of shiny metal. They hugely distract from the lovely flame picture and might even reflect glare in a darkened room, to annoyingly show up as a reflection on your telly. Were they black however the stove would just look like one out of Machine Mart. It undersells in appearance and the slender feet look weedy, giving it a cheap look. Love the internals but externally to me it looks unremarkable and would leave me wishing I had bought something with more design. Don't shoot the messenger and keep up the videos.

All views welcome here. I didn’t notice any reflection, but it certainly sounds plausible. However the “MachineMart” comment is perhaps slightly unfair, this definitely has a design, look and feel which would beat very cheap imports with ease.

Fair enough. Design and look to me was unispiring in the video. Can't comment on feel. So many units you test look 'special', so maybe it's just the contrast of the highlight being a shiny, solid (and visually distracting) knob (that might lose its luster or show fingerprints?). Your videos are training us to be discerning critics! No bad thing. Keep going.
@TheTortoise

Your discernment and chat is definitely where the value is, so thanks for the comments. The lustre and fingerprint issue hasn’t revealed itself as yet, and to be fair I’m not expecting issue like I would expect from materials like brass for example, but time will tell. Are there any long term users with any experience in this area?
