@@chantemichelle888 yes - fascinating to me that they are one of the largest-growing groups in North America: their rejection of technology beyond a certain point [which I can empathise with!!] and defining themselves as 'not-English' has made them a very successful group in holding on to their way of life in the face of modernity and a technological system that would just prefer us to all be some bland corporatist monoculture. I think Granny/Penelope could quite happy be Amish - she already hates cars and has the gig and horse for it 😂

What a wonderful family! You are so lucky that the grandparents are so involved with your kids because I can’t even get my dad to spend time with mine. It’s a shame because my kids are wonderful and he is missing out. And the worst part is that he only lives about 20-25 mins away from us. My mom died in 1997 when I was only 23 years old. She was a great mom and I know she would be there for my kids if she was alive

This brought me back to when my own Mother (RIP) used to make doughnuts, much in this way. She used to share a story of how my Grandmother, her Mom, used to make doughnuts on a wood stove, and place them on a plate on the warmer, only every time she stepped out of the kitchen, and came back, her plate of doughnuts, just didn't seem to gain. She understood why. My Uncles were upstairs, fashioned a hook out of metal hanger, and, would drop it down, alongside the pipe, and hook a doughnut one at a time. Grandmother walked back into the kitchen to see her doughnuts disappearing up to the second floor via the stove pipe. Boy, did my Uncles get into trouble, but, their belly was full of their Mother's doughnuts. I guess it was worth the trouble they got into. lol

My mom was the center of all our activities, she was a fun person that loved to laugh and sing, her personality was such that drew people to our home. Of course the multinationals and other people who live by exploiting people don't like this kind of things. We have to teach children everything about living from what nature gives us, without destroying it, feeding from it, and living in peace and harmony. Dark times are coming and it is very good that children learn these things and don't forget them.
