Four years before there was a group called EXO, five years prior to the existence of BTS, and six years before there was even a thought about NCT, there was SHINee. In fact, SHINee mentored both EXO and NCT prior to their debuts, as they are brother groups under SM Entertainment. SHINee are the OG legends of the 2nd. generation of Kpop; the trendsetters who transformed Kpop into what it is today. Without them 3rd & 4th gen groups may have never transitioned from lip-synching during live performances into actual live singing -- which is what SHINee did beginning with their debut performance and are still doing. Without SHINee you would not see the insanely complex, synchronized choreographies that are commonplace today. SHINee introduced that. Without SHINee, there may be no dance practices to enjoy. Yes, this gets redundant but -- SHINee did that. Those are just the top few of the many, many trends started by SHINee which have become staples of the Kpop industry and became known as the "SHINee Standard" that each new successive group hoped to attain. As veterans of Kpop, they command the best of the best in production, backup dancers, etc. That's another one of their firsts -- from very early on, SHINee has had male and female backup dancers. They also have A LOT of control over their work. Case in point: they hated the original melody of "Hard", so they dismantled it and reworked it. SM wanted thier b-side, "Juice", to be the title song. SHINee said no and chose "Hard". I speculate they wanted "Hard" because the storytelling element fit their agenda. (You can hear them talk about this in their recent "SHINee 15th Anniversary Roadtrip" video. Yes, this is their 15th Anniversary comeback.) So, welcome to SHINee World (fandom name; SHAWOLs for short) and let me tell you about our five extremely talented guys! SHINee is a powerhouse that debuted in 2008 with the most revered and greatest debut song in Kpop -- "Replay". It is still covered by newer groups today. At debut, the five-member group were between the ages of 18 and 14 -- Onew (now 34; red jacket/black leather pants then multi-pants & jacket; currently on hiatus due to health issues), Jonghyun (who we tragically lost in 2017), Key (now 32; black jacket/white shirt w/purple belt & gloves), Minho (now 32; brown tweed), and Taemin (30 as of 7/18 this year; Sang the bridge w/blue hands). SHINee are family with the tightest brotherhood in Kpop; true brothers who have weathered the worst storms and stayed steadfast. The word "CAN'T" isn't in their vocabulary. All five of them can sing, rap, and dance. They are also all successful, top-tier soloists, songwriters, producers, and composers. Key is the guy who designs all their outfits, as well as having an insanely versatile voice. Minho writes most of their rap lyrics, Onew is the leader with "THE VOICE" that everyone goes gaga over, and Taemin is not only the dance king of the Kpop industry, but is both a seductive vocal tempter & awesome rock vocalist with the most Avant Garde MVs in the industry. Jonghyun had the most powerful vocals in the entire Kpop world and was a major contributor for SHINee, as well as other artists within Kpop, for songwriting, composing, and producing. In fact, he was the first SM Kpop artist to write/compose/produce his own solo work -- opening the door for successive Kpop artists developing their own works. SM Entertainment hit the proverbial pot of gold with these guys. They learned very early on that SHINee could sing anything thrown at them, and for Onew, that included Opera despite not being classically trained! Originally slated to be a hip-hop group, they were finally labeled as an experimental contemporary group which left them open to experiment and explore different genres. Through the years they have done just about every musical genre out there. They even introduced the Kpop world to Dubstep (2013's "Everybody") and Deep House (2015's "View" written by Jonghyun) before those genres were really known in Kpop. SHINee went on to start mixing different genres together to produce new sounds and even debuted the first Kpop hybrid song with 2012's smash hit, "Sherlock". Couple all of this musical experimentation with Taemin's constant need for a challenge and desire for more intricate and complex choreographies and, voila, you have an eclectic mix of very talented young men, each with a unique voice, who blended together became an almost perfect group ("almost" only because no one is perfect) and have the most heavenly harmonization skills in the business. This 15th Anniversary comeback album titled "Hard" has their standard eclectic mix of genres including Hip-Hop, Jazz, R&B, electronic pop, etc. There really is something for everyone. AND if you want to hear the most angelic harmonies ever created by a boy group, just listen to their b-side "Satellite" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqOzmqaKjdWJbac ) I certainly hope you will also react to their performance video for "Juice" as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKPWZ2CkbZytm9E It's just as insane. Also, reacting to them live is always best because, as they're known as "CDNees", their live vocals are often even better than when recorded. In addition, they are kings of live performances as exemplified by their ICONIC stages as indicated by the fact that their concepts are often borrowed by other groups. One such iconic performance is "Sherlock" at Tokyo Dome: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2XTeoGXnaeiiLs and "Evil" in which certain elements of its concept was borrowed and tweaked by another famous boy-group: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4KTfWmijpeln68 Again, thank you so much for reacting to SHINee and hope to see more!

Great reaction! But honestly not surprising because SHINee are phenomenal singers/rappers/dancers/visuals! An incredibly respected and admired second generation group that has remained fresh and relevant; always experimenting with their sound and staying relevant in the whirlwind that is the Kpop scene. What you saw is 15 years of experience--these guys are at the peak of their game! OK putting names to faces: The guy with the shorts who caught your eye with his rapping skills: He is Key (real name Kim Kibum) and he is the all-rounder. Rapper/Singer/Dancer/songwriter/Actor/Variety show king/Fashionista/artist who also has a flourishing career as a solo artist in his own right (check out his MV's Bad Love and Gasoline!) The guy with the leather pants and red jacket is the Leader of SHINee. He is Onew (real name Lee Jinki). He is famous for his warm golden voice and is highly sought after as a duet partner. He too is a singer/dancer/songwriter/actor and also has a great career as a solo artist (check out his mv's Dice and Circle). Onew is currently on a hiatus due to his health. The tallest member wearing the brown plaid suit is Minho (real name Choi Minho). He is a rapper/singer/songwriter/dancer/show host who is also a sought after actor. You could say acting is is second career (check out his work in Hwarang, Yumi's Cells, and The Fabulous, to name but a few). He is also a sports fanatic and incredibly good at any sport he tries! He has one solo album so far (check out his MV's Heartbreak and Chase). The member in this video in the bright green jacket--and blue hands in the bridge--is Taemin (real name Lee Taemin). He is a singer/dancer/songwriter/actor with the most extensive solo work of all the members of SHINee. He made his debut when he was only 14! He is a phenomenally gifted dancer and is widely acknowledged as one of the top two dancers in all of Kpop and has continually been nicknamed "The Michael Jackson of Kpop" throughout his career. While Taemin greatly admired Michael Jackson growing up, he undoubtably has his own style that is uniquely his. He is continually being cited as the artist who inspired the younger generation of idols to pursue their dreams. (He has too many amazing solo works, but check out MOVE, WANT, Criminal, Idea, Advice.) He is about to make his next comeback at the end of October, so be on the lookout for his next single "Guilty"! The last member of SHINee to mention is Jonghyun (real name Kim Jonghyun). He was with SHINee from debut in 2008 to his passing in 2017. He was an incredibly gifted singer/dancer/songwriter/composer/musician/radio host/solo artist who was the first in Kpop to be given the freedom of an entirely self-written solo album. He often wrote and composed for other groups and artists too. He remains a member of SHINee for eternity, and we are forever grateful that there are so many works and videos of him. (check out his MV's Crazy and Deja Boo). I really hope you decide to explore more of SHINee, as well as the members' solo works. You will NOT be disappointed!

SHINee lives are amazing. They are great as solo artists too. If you start with their debut, Replay, then you'll see them starting out aged 14-18 in 2008 and if you love kdramas then you might come across Minho (second chorus, red military jacket) as he's also a well know actor. On top of that they are just really nice guys and all hilarious - there are loads of fan videos on yt about them. Relationship between Key and Minho is a mood!😂

With "Hard," SHINee is just doing what we have all come to expect from them -- showing us something that has never been seen or heard before and starting a new trend. Nothing you hear from them will ever be like anything you have ever seen or heard before. They raise the bar even higher with every comeback. And that's what makes them SHINee. :D With every new song release, SHINee are expected to come out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And, this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc. The whole reason why they chose "Hard" for their title track is because they wanted to show everyone that SHINee can do any genre, including hip-hop. Although, just to make sure you didn't forget that this was a SHINee song, they couldn't just do straight hip-hop. They had to create this hybrid mashup of pop, rock and retro hip-hop, etc. to give this song that SHINee flavor. They killed this!! This will definitely be a contender for album of the year. You can't tell me that you're not singing "hard like a criminal, hard like the beat, hard like ma flow ..." over and over again in your head after hearing this song. LOL We can definitely add this to SHINee's earworm song list. And the rest of the songs on the album are just as catchy. And, switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of the song is pretty much how the majority of SM Entertainment's songs are structured. It's kind of SM's signature style. You will hear that same thing happen in a lot of the songs you listen to from SM. This song was written by Kenzie, who is an SM songwriter and producer that has written a large majority of SM songs. She even has her own studio at SM, that's how much she is involved in SM's sound. However, the SHINee members participate in all aspects of the songwriting and producing, as well. That's why it has that signature SM design, and, yet, it's also very uniquely SHINee. The fact that this song is nothing like anyone expects, and different than anything out there, is exactly what makes it a SHINee song. SHINee were designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first, and they are expected to create the trend. With every new song SHINee produces, it's supposed to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them. But it will somehow always have that SHINee feel. This is really just SHINee going back to their roots. Before debut, SHINee was actually training to be a hip-hop group. However, as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag to pull off hip-hop full time, so last minute SM decided to change up their style to the contemporary R&B style of their debut song "Replay" that they have now become known for. "Hard" just proves that SM wasn't wrong, and SHINee has no problem in the world of hip-hop. But their destiny and calling was to be a group that never ties themselves down to just one style or genre. They were meant to show the world that they can be diverse and unique and never do the same thing twice. With every release that SHINee has they intentionally flip the script and change things up in the Kpop industry. That's why, when SHINee makes a comeback, everyone pays attention because they are looking to SHINee to show them what the industry's next song style and dance trend will be. It's actually said that within 3 months of SHINee making a comeback, you will see that same sound and dance style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow, for both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something, the industry takes note and follows suit. You just discovered why SHINee still holds one of the top spots after more than 15 years in the industry. Just wait until you go through their entire discography of songs and MVs. So far, they have 14 full-length albums (8 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 15+ years, and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. However, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to see their live performances. When SHINee debuted in 2008, Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and a songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14. However, now, SHINee are known for the fact that there are no longer any fixed roles in their group. The main vocalists can rap, the rappers can fill in as main vocalists, and they are all impressive dancers. SHINee are some of the most well-respected artists in the industry. Onew (Pronounced Oh-New in English or On-New with a Korean accent, real name Lee JinKi) is currently 33 -- the one with the amazing high notes and the colorful outfit -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique voices in the industry. (Onew means, or sounds like, the Korean words for soft or gentle, so he was given his stage name because he has a very calm and gentle personality.) He is one of the most coveted male voices, that all other singers dream of getting a chance to collaborate with. His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch. SHINee are a 5-member group, with 4 active members. You only saw Onew in part of the "Hard" MV because, unfortunately, he is currently on hiatus due to his health. He went on hiatus in the middle of filming the MV, and wasn't able to participate in the rest of the shoot. It was announced June 9, when Onew was hospitalized for a short time, that he would take a doctor recommended rest. Therefore, he won't be participating in any of their comeback activities. Key (real name Kim Kibum, pronounced Key-bum, which is why his stage name is Key like the key to a door.) currently is 32 -- in the suit with the shorts/ the pink fuzzy shirt -- is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. (Notice how Key was singing through his clenched teeth in the last part of the song when they were all dressed in black. And he still sounded perfect while giving off the "Hard" vibes that the song required. Just one of the many unique elements of this song that only SHINee can pull off.) He is also considered SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. And he is SHINee's fluent English speaker -- he is almost as good as a native speaker -- one of the best non-native English speakers in Kpop. Minho is currently 31-- the one with the red jacket with the epaulets -- is the main rapper and yes, he is the visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is a top actor, and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies, starting way back in 2011. When not promoting with SHINee, he is almost always on the set of his latest drama or movie. He is also known as a star athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out, just because he likes to work out, but he also is crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And, not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field, and he wins pretty much every time. Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and games and his need to always win. And, Taemin is now 30 -- the blond -- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry (one of the top 2 best dancers of all dancers in Kpop), and that's not just by fans, but by everyone in the industry, including his peers. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson. He is also one of the most popular male solo artists, and he is a member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM. Taemin truly is art when it comes to his performances. Although Jonghyun wasn't in the MV -- because he passed almost 6 years ago -- in order to get to know SHINee, you have to get to know him as well. He is known as one of the best vocalists in Kpop, whose voice was unmatched. He also was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed almost 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer. He was one of the very first Idols to be known for his songwriting and composing skills. Once you get to know their voices, you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. Most fans will tell you we know who is speaking or singing within 1 second, even with our eyes closed, with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. All 5 of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop".

I think the storyline in SHINee's "Hard" MV can be interpreted in two ways. As you may have noticed, the whole MV has a piano theme. For example, in the beginning when the scene becomes animated, it showed Taemin being pulled into the piano. And, if you look at the set with the brown walls, you will notice that it looks like the inside of a piano with the wooden hammers that create the sound when the keys are played on the walls behind them. And the lighted white screen is divided like the white keys of the piano with the people's silhouettes representing the black keys, etc. This could represent how music is what controls their lives and it's what has trapped them in this world as artists. Which could be similar to the themes within Taemin's solo Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids", "Criminal" and "Idea" -- and his epilogue "Advice." However, I'm also pretty sure that the whole "Hard" MV storyline is connected to SM Entertainment's SM Culture Universe. The more I watch it, the more I see that seems to indicate that it's all connected. As with all the groups under SM Entertainment, their storylines are all part of a larger concept kind of like a giant graphic novel or action movie series with a twist. SHINee's story, so far, primarily connects to EXO's and SuperM's storylines. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together there are threads of connections between the groups. You could sort of think of it like the Marvel franchise. Each of the Marvel characters has their own storyline, merchandise and fans, but the stories and concepts often overlap and connect. And with each new character that is introduced it expands on the whole Marvel universe. To understand how all of SM's groups are connected, you first need to be aware that it all began with EXO's origin story in 2012. EXO's concept is that they are aliens from Planet Exo, who have been sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are believed to be caused by the Red Force. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda -- corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world, such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc. With SHINee's "Hard" MV, I think when we first see Taemin in the black sleeveless suit, he looks very similar to what he looked like in his SuperM debut teasers, which could mean that this could be connected to SuperM's storyline. SuperM is the Kpop industry's very first supergroup, which debuted in October 2019, and their concept and storyline is centered around the fact that they are Avengers-like superheroes, so SuperM is the group that pretty much connects all of SM's groups together. SuperM is made up of members of SM's other male Kpop groups, such as Taemin from SHINee, Baekhyun and Kai from EXO, Taeyong and Mark from NCT, Ten from WayV and Lucas who is a former member of WayV. This group's storyline is that they are coming together to help EXO battle the Red Force, which is the evil villain or group within EXO's storyline. As "The Avengers," SuperM is taking members from each of SM's groups and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And, just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the conflict. I also think the story in "Hard" could even be connected to Taemin's "Advice" storyline. We see him with his hands painted blue in "Hard," similar to his black ink-stained hands and body in "Advice," and in both scenes we see him standing in front of/playing a piano. (Technically, Pearl Aqua is SHINee's color. However, before LED lights were invented, creating a wider range of colors -- making way for SHINee's official Pearl Aqua color -- they used blue and green in things to do with SHINee. That's why we still see blue, green and aqua with most things SHINee related.) Some have pointed out that the scene with the silhouettes behind the screen reminds them of the scene in Taemin's "Criminal" MV, with the people behind a screen pushing their hands into it. However, in "Hard" Taemin is standing in front of the screen, rather than walking through the middle with the two sides reaching for him like in "Criminal". Although, I also think that scene could be connected to EXO's storyline, because we see in EXO's "Tempo" MV a scene where there are silhouettes behind a lighted white wall that looks very similar to this. In EXO's storyline, the people behind the wall are thought to be EXO's alter ego clones who were created by the Red Force or they could be the EXO members who are trapped behind the wall. We also see EXO fighting with their silhouette shadows in their live concert performance of their song "Wolf," which is also thought to be EXO battling X-EXO as they search for the Tree of Life. Ever since SHINee came out with "Don't Call Me" -- their previous release in 2021 -- I think the storyline in that MV was supposed to be SM bringing SHINee into the SM Culture Universe. In their "Don't Call Me" MV it looks as though the SHINee members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits like they are getting ready for battle. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV when the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping." Therefore, because Taemin is a member of SuperM, I think SHINee is supposed to be getting ready to join SuperM in the fight against the Red Force. In "Hard" we also see Taemin standing on a grate as he crouches down and looks through it at the "people" in white trapped below, similar to his scene in SuperM's "Jopping" MV. The scene with Key standing with all the dancers in white -- which I think are supposed to represent the white keys of a piano -- sitting in a circle around him, also seems to be an important part of the story, however, I'm not sure what it all means yet. We see Key remove the mask of one of the guys and we discover the guy has a glowing blue earpiece, which seems to be suggesting that they are being controlled by outside forces. However, because they are all just sitting there without moving, it seems to indicate that they are currently "shut-down". Either these people are androids or robots, like in EXO's "Lucky One" MV, or they are people who are under mind control. Although, I don't think they are being controlled by the Red Force necessarily because we don't see any trace of red anywhere in that scene. Instead, the color we see is blue, which usually within EXO's storyline means that it represents something to do with EXO, who are the good guys. Plus, as I said, blue with SHINee usually represents SHINee and their connection as a group. Minho standing on the edge of that rock formation looks similar to the scene with Girls' Generation's Taeyeon standing on the rock in the middle of the ocean in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV, and it also looks a lot like the scene in SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV, with Key standing on the submerged phone booth. It all has the same feeling. (Notice how they also are all wearing red in all of those scenes. Red usually represents something to do with the Red Force.) In the next animated scene, we see what looks like Minho in the red jacket fighting with the same piano key ropes that pulled Taemin into the piano in the beginning. To me, it looks like it's trying to keep him trapped within the piano and under the control of the music. However, in the next scene we see the giant piano has been destroyed behind them, which could represent how music no longer controls them, but they now control the music. (As the SHINee members have said, in the beginning of their career they did whatever they were told to do, however, now that they've been in the industry for more than 15 years, they have learned how to be their own artists, and it has afforded them the opportunity to now make their own decisions about their music and to participate in creating the songs and designing their albums, etc. They are now the ones in control.) In the last scene at the very end, after the Hard8 title, it reminds me of the same menacing red atmosphere as Minho's rap section in their "Don't Call Me" MV, where we see him in an all-red room with chairs hovering above him. Therefore, I think the gloved hand is Minho's hand because it looks like the same gloves that Minho is wearing in the scene right before that where they are dressed in black. Although I don't know what that means yet, I am sure it is something to connect the storyline to something within one of SM's MVs in the future or will make more sense when more of the story is revealed as SM releases the next chapter, etc. But you should also know that no one really knows for sure what is happening in any of the story. There are well known theories and storylines that are accepted within the fandom, which we think might explain what is happening in each MV. And there are theories about how each MV is connected and where each falls within their larger storyline, but nothing is set in stone. Fan theories are constantly evolving and changing with every introduction of a new piece of the puzzle. New things are revealed with every MV release, concert, event, or appearance, etc., which could either add to or change the storyline.

What an awesome reaction! Even without knowing anything about SHINee you know quality when you see it. These guys can do it all. They are especially renowned for their vocals, live performances, and innovativeness. You said "every single one of them stand out". Exactly - because they are all such super talented individuals that also have their own solo careers, not just in singing, but other fields as well. And when they are together as SHINee it's magic 😊 Interesting that they're all your faves and you cant pick one, because actually, SHINee won't let you 😅 These guys have the closest bonds, they are brothers who truly love each other. They are also hilarious, chaotic and unfiltered. You are going to fall in love with their personalities and interactions, for sure. As you loved Hard, you will also like Don't Call Me. Also watch Atlantis to see a contrasting style and to hear more of their vocals. For a live concert performance watch the iconic Excuse Me Miss. One of their best stages, and it's with all 5 members. L First time seeing one of your reactions and I'm subscribing right now for your SHINee deep dive.

Everything about this is seriously HARD-the beat, the vocals, the lyrics, the choreo, the fashion, the visuals, and the beats of Shawol’s hearts!!!!! The Princes are BACK for GOOD! I’m so proud of them. Honestly, Kibum, Minho, & Taemin are doing Jinki & Jjong proud…they’re *killing* it. I pray Jinki knows how much he is loved and that he gets well soon. ♥️ SHINee came back in true SHINee fashion-setting the Standard and breaking boundaries! SHINee’s BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK!!!!!!! Some info on our incredible Princes: SHINee debuted 25 May 2008 as an experimental, contemporary group and is comprised of the five most talented guys (the “Most Shining in the Universe”) in South Korea. They’re tasked (and are incredibly successful) with introducing new ideas ranging from concepts, music genres, fashion, and more to the industry. They set the trends and others follow in their footsteps. One such trend is known as the SHINee Standard-intense choreography whilst singing live, even since their debut. In fact, SHINee is one of the few K-pop groups who have won 1st place on music shows in 3 different decades: 2000s - “Love Like Oxygen”, 2010s - “Lucifer”, 2020s - “Don't Call Me”. The only thing SHINee is known to not be good at is lip syncing, so they typically don’t. They’re known for their incredible live vocals and have been lovingly nicknamed “CDNee” because their live vocals are even better than their recordings, despite their heavy/intricate choreo-it’s like they eat their CDs for breakfast. They trained by singing while taking long runs and kept that conditioning up-after all, their concerts last 3.5 hours or longer with insanely intense choreography and vocals. They give their all during their performances, but you’d never know they were so tired their managers have had to carry them afterwards. All five members are also accomplished soloists. In fact, SHINee is the ONLY group in which every member has hit #1 on Worldwide iTunes and appeared on the music shows MNet/M Countdown, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo as solo artists. Between SHINee’s 15 years of music as a group and over eight years worth of solo discography, there is a LOT to discover…and that doesn’t even include the countless movies, musicals, TV shows, radio, and various other solo activities they have to offer. From business to sports, fashion to investments, cultural programs, philanthropy, social justice, human rights, academics, etc…our Shining men are truly incomparable. Something that is important to know in regards to SHINee…I mentioned they are a five member group, and that is true to this day. However, Jonghyun tragically lost his battle with depression and anxiety in December of 2017. He was always incredibly open regarding his struggles with mental health…which isn’t taken seriously in South Korea (though it is improving, from what I understand…in large part due to the tragic losses of Jonghyun, Sulli, Goo Hara, and other idols). Doctors pretty much told him to suck it up and try to be happy. His death was devastating, not only to SHINee and Shawol (fandom name, short for SHINee World), but for all of KPOP, Korea, and the world. He is still missed terribly and appears regularly on charts for popularity and listening counts. Jonghyun was regarded the best vocalist of KPOP and was the first SM artist to release a self-written album. He wrote tons of songs-not just for himself or even SHINee, but for other well-known artists, as well. The members of SHINee obviously took his loss very, very hard, but decided to continue as a group that will always remain five. To this day, they are very vocal about the fact Jonghyun is still with them and SHINee is FIVE; they even leave his spot open in choreography sometimes and keep his microphone backstage during performances.

(Continued, part 1) The members are- Onew (Lee Jinki, 14 Dec 1989), Leader of SHINee & one of the best vocalists in Korea. Shawol Fandom Name-MVPs. Jinki calls his fans Jjingus, which is a play on Jinki & chingu, Korean for “friend”. He’s also an (uncredited) executive producer, a songwriter, pianist, actor, investor, environmentalist, and philanthropist. He DELIVERED all of 2022 with tons of amazing content and music and kicked off 2023 strong, as well. You may recognize him from “Descendents of the Sun” and various other dramas, musicals, and TV programs (you should definitely check him out in the TV program, “Sea of Hope”). He recently finished promotions for his first full-length Korean album: “O (CIRCLE)”, which is absolutely STUNNING and earned his first solo music show award. The entire album is truly phenomenal. “Rain On Me” landed #4 on Billboard’s Hot Trending List and “Caramel” featuring GIRIBOY (which was never even performed live) ranked #13 on the same chart. He’s currently on hiatus for unknown health reasons and we’re all praying for his improved health, his happiness, and return when he’s ready. Though he’s sorely missed, I could not be more proud of him making what had to be one of his most difficult decisions to sit out and put his health first. He’s been looking forward to this and asking Shawol to anticipate their comeback for two years. As our Leadernim, Jinki has always put everyone ahead of himself and, like I mentioned before, I’m so proud of him for taking care of himself. We’ll be here with open arms and full hearts when he returns!!! Jonghyun (Kim Jonghyun - 08 Apr 1990), Main Vocalist (best vocalist in K-POP history). Shawol Fandom Name-Blingers (he’s our Bling Bling Jonghyun). Besides being a vocal powerhouse and inarguably one of the best vocalist of all time, he is widely regarded as one of the best songwriters, as well. Jjong was also an author (“Skeleton Flower: Things That Have Been Released and Set Free”, talks about his songwriting experiences and inspirations), radio host (MBC Blue Night, 2015-2017), bass guitarist (though he also played other instruments…guitar, piano, and he’s well-known for his kazoo playing), and staunch defender/ally for mental health and LGBTQIA+ (even when it threatened his career). There are not enough words to express the greatness that is Jonghyun.

(Continued, part 2) Key (Kim Kibum - 23 Sep 1991), Vocalist, Dancer, Rapper, Fashion Designer. Shawol Fandom Name-Lockets (he’s our Key). Kibum also calls us Lil Freaks (inspired by Lady Gaga’s lil monsters…he’s our Captain Freak). Kibum is also an actor, official fashion director for SM Entertainment, former fashion editor for ELLE Korea, venerated and in-demand MC, and has a skincare line with Youlief entitled “Face” and a collaboration with the cosmetics line Espoir. He’s a longtime cast member of the weekly show, “Amazing Saturday”, is currently a member of the “I Live Alone” television series, and is an accomplished stage actor. Furthermore, he is known as one of the best-dressed men in Korea and began designing SHINee‘s concert attire in 2015. He’s also constantly going viral for something, randomly appears on the news, and has been memed multiple times. In fact, one of his viral memes from years ago recently turned into a real-life endorsement with McDonald’s! Shawol was blessed earlier this year with the release of his highly-anticipated repackage: “KILLER”, the conclusion to his retro trilogy which (unsurprisingly) slayed the industry! What else should we expect from our all-rounder KEY-LLER, though?! Minho (Choi Minho - 09 Dec 1991), Main Rapper, Songwriter, Vocalist. Shawol Fandom Name-Flamers (he is Flaming Charisma). Best Choice (his web show with Naver) fans are referred to as BeChoDans. He has written rap lyrics for SHINee from debut and is also credited with collaborating on lyric-writing for multiple songs. Minho is an incredible actor, model, MC, and ambassador…he’s also a sports enthusiast and is very competitive (doesn’t hurt that he’s great at everything!). Minho’s much-anticipated movie “New Normal” debuted at the Florence Korea Film Fest 4/1 and played various other film festivals, including the Fantasy Film Fest 4/20, 4/22, and 4/29, as well as the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival on 4/22. In fact, it’s still being played! You may recognize him from “The Fabulous” on Netflix, “Hwarang, The Poet Warrior Youth”, “Yumi’s Cells”, “King of Golf, Season 2”, “The Most Beautiful Goodbye”, and countless other movies, dramas, TV series, reality shows, and as an MC of multiple events. The man never sits still. Speaking of, Shawol was recently blessed with The Last Piece of the Puzzle (aka: the SHINee solo plagiarism series) with his first solo album: CHASE! The album hit #1 on iTunes in a 2022 SM artist record-breaking 42 countries (beating Jinki’s record of 41 countries with DICE). He also appeared for all three SMTOWN 2022 concerts-cementing his role as the driver of Kwangya. (Don’t ask me what that actually means because I know nothing of Kwangya lore.) Minho is an Honorary Ambassador of Youth, a UNICEF Unihero Campaign Ambassador, a K-League Ambassador, and was selected by the Korea Creative Content Agency, along with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as a virtual figure in the artificial intelligence booth, “Gwanghwa In”. He’s also currently a brand ambassador for the modern classic scotch whiskey brand, Ballantine’s. I’ve honestly lost track of the brands he promotes. Minho is Shawol’s unofficial President and is the biggest fan of both SHINee and Shawol. On another note, he’s also been listed by Vogue in their “Sexiest Men Alive” list and won a spot on Cosmopolitan’s 35 Most Ab-Tastic Moments of 2015 for his special feature moment in “Dynamite” during the SHINee World Concert IV in Seoul. Finally, dibidibidis (IYKYK).

(Continued, part 3) Last, but certainly NEVER least: Taemin (Lee Taemin - 18 Jul 1993). Main Dancer, Vocalist. Shawol Fandom Name-Taemints (SHINee was a total secret and not marketed at all before their debut so Taemin would hand out mints and candies to tempt people to listen to their music and attend their debut-which not even their families were aware they were debuting until they were on stage in front of them). Taemin calls his fans Jjakgoongs, meaning best friends/buddies/partners. Taemin became a trainee under SM at age 11 as a self-taught dancer. He was one of three selected out of thousands the day he auditioned, but he caught their eye with his pop-locking skills, the fact he crossed the line when he wasn’t supposed to (on purpose), and his cheekiness. Though he didn’t feel ready, he debuted with SHINee as the maknae (youngest member) and main dancer at age 14. Taemin didn’t get any vocal lines at first (many stated he was tone-deaf, but he was going through puberty), but worked his butt off to improve-so much so he was getting frequent nosebleeds and passed out a few times. His hyungs (basically a term for older “brothers”/close males) helped him develop his voice, especially Jinki and Jonghyun, to the point he was the first SM idol to go solo whilst active in his group (2014, at 21 years old). He’s now known for being an exceptional vocalist and is a main vocalist for SHINee and SuperM. Taemin is also an accomplished pianist! In 2014, Taemin had his solo debut as the ACE of SM Entertainment (the best of the best in all areas)-Ace is the name of his first solo album and he was the first to receive that title. Now he has gained even more titles: he is the Idols’ Idol (most idols today will say the reason they became an idol and the person they most look up to/aspire to be is Taemin and/or SHINee), he is also a Prince of KPOP (which is a title granted to SHINee), Golden Maknae of SM that’s talented in all areas (besides the fact everyone loves him-not only is he talented, but he’s a wonderful human), Legendary Solo Man (역솔남-near as I can tell, it’s a title bestowed on those similar to “Diva”, given to artists such as Aretha, Dolly, Cher, etc), and the Michael Jackson of South Korea (he’s also known as one of the best dancers in South Korea, if not the best). His backup dance teams are the best in the business and are comprised of multiple famous choreographers (with that said, it’s still difficult (if not impossible) to see anyone BUT Taemin when he’s dancing). It’s no surprise that he’s very well-respected amongst choreographers: his friend, world-renowned choreographer Koharu Sugawara, nicknamed him “Dancer Killer”. In 2019, SM collaborated with Capitol Records, USA, and assembled a group of seven of the best artists in KPOP to debut in the USA: SuperM. In fact, they even collaborated with Marvel after having been dubbed the Avengers of KPOP. Of course, Taemin was the first chosen and helped pick the other six members. Though not the eldest member, he is the senior member of the group due to the length of time he’s been in the industry. As such, he would have been leader, but he deferred that task to Baekhyun of the group EXO (who’s slightly older than Taemin). Taemin has been the maknae of SHINee his entire career and didn’t feel he would be best suited to lead the others. However, he is the center of the group and they ALL (including Baekhyun) defer to his experience and take his advice to heart. He is very caring towards his dongsaengs (juniors) and was nicknamed Taemresa (inspired by Mother Teresa). Baekhyun is an incredible leader, by the way…don’t want anyone to misunderstand my intentions behind what I’ve said. With the debut in SuperM, Taemin became the first idol to ever debut in three generations: 2nd with SHINee, 3rd as a solo artist, and 4th Gen with SuperM.
@ShawolOT5 Жыл бұрын
(Continued, part 4) Taemin recently discharged from his mandatory military service 04 Apr 2023. Taemin is one of the most active members on SNS: he messages on Bubble (text, pix, and voice…including him playing piano and singing to us), frequently goes live on IG, posts pics, and resumed his unofficial job of SHINee’s Spoiler Fairy. He’s also the member who mostly treats his fans like we’re in a parasocial relationship-acting and talking as though we’re his significant other. Taeminnie calls his fans Jjakgoongs (a name meaning best friends/buddies/partners) and Taemints (Taemints being the name of his Shawol fans, based on the fact SHINee was a total secret and not marketed at all before their debut so Taemin would hand out mints and candies to tempt people to listen to their music and attend their debut-which not even their families were aware they were debuting until they were on stage in front of them). Another important thing to know regarding Taemin has to do with his beloved hyung, Jonghyun. Jonghyun was Taemin’s biggest fan and supporter, even rescheduling his own concert to attend Taemin’s. They were inseparable. Considering SHINee was back on the stage less than two months after his passing, the group did not have very long to grieve. (They returned after much consideration and at the behest of Jjong’s mom and sister.) Taemin is a well-known workaholic…he never takes breaks and hasn’t since he was a child. He’s in the studio every single day-not even taking off for Christmas. In fact, he went live on the day of his military discharge from the practice room and was renting dance studios while he was enlisted because he HAS to dance…it’s part of him. His jump from nonstop working and perfecting his abilities into military life, plus dealing with depression and anxiety, truly hit him hard. Thankfully, he appears to be doing much better now. He looks and sounds happy and healthy, which is honestly all I could ever hope for. Taemin and SHINee are all fluent in Japanese and release just as many Japanese albums as Korean. They are so popular in Japan, many do not consider them foreign artists (which is testament to the love and respect the Japanese people have for them). They even have an entirely separate crew of dancers and staff in Japan. Most artists have to request to hold concerts at Tokyo Dome (it’s an unspoken rule you need to be able to sell out the 55,000-seat arena to perform), but they actually reach out and request SHINee and Taemin because they know they’ll sell out in seconds (whether as a group or Taemin as a solo artist) and have to host multiple days to accommodate. The guys host the entire concert in Japanese and do not need translators. I mentioned SHINee being trendsetters-that includes Taemin, of course. Besides introducing new music styles and breaking boundaries with his concepts, he has also worked to break other boundaries, as well. Early in his career, SM took advantage of his prettiness and exaggerated it-he was often mistaken as a female (especially during the long-hair era) and would frequently clear his throat to “discreetly” let others know he’s male. He absolutely hated it, and understandably so-he was a teenager. Later, he embraced some of the socially-viewed “feminine” qualities and has worked hard to showcase that music has no gender. Taemin made waves with his song, “Move”, which he performs with his Girl Gang (all-female backup dancers). The choreography blends masculine and feminine energy like no one but Taemin can do (so many tried to imitate it, it was dubbed “Move Disease”, but none come close). He also lends that androgynous aspect to his fashion choices. Taemin has many facets to him-when the camera is on (filming MVs, music shows, etc), he is a true professional. With his SHINee hyungs, he’s a mischievous crackhead who lives to torment them. They raised him, so they spoil him, but don’t misunderstand-his love for them is unmatched and it goes both ways. With SuperM, he’s silly, but caring-he took them under his wings and is their mentor. He also has his Padding Squad (friend group consisting of Kai from EXO, Jimin from BTS, Ravi from VIXX, Timoteo of HotShot, WannaOne/HotShot’s Sungwoon, and a non-celebrity friend). They’re named the Padding Squad, or Padding Friends, because Taemin bought and designed matching customized jackets with their own unique logo. For me, personally, I can appreciate someone’s musical abilities…but to become a true fan (or “stan”), they have to be really special and have qualities setting them apart besides simple talent. Taemin, SHINee as a group, and the other SHINee members as soloists have my utmost devotion (they’re all five incredible soloists-in fact, SHINee is the ONLY group in which ALL members have hit #1 on the Worldwide iTunes Chart as soloists). They’re incredibly talented in ways far beyond musical abilities and are kind, fun, and caring humans. TAEMIN’S BACK!!! SHINee’s BACK!!!

SHINee has been trying to maintain their own style in everything from the very beginning, and it really shows in every song. People have different musical tastes, but anyone who tries to delve into their group or solo albums will find something that interests them. They have such an extensive discography that I don't know where to start. You asked about the generation, so they are the 2nd generation and they debuted in 2008, and they all also have solo songs. I recommend ATLANTIS, Dont Call Me,VIEW,1of1,Sherlock
