The Straight Flush Saw is an entirely new type of worm drive saw. The blade is flush to the housing and with the cover removed it can cut right up to a wall and all the way into corners. With the base folded back the blade projects from the front and can be plunged where the blades standard circular saws cannot-allowing it to be used to remove plates from rough openings and cut sheathing from openings from inside the building.
The saw is expected to come out this summer and will sell for $575.

I love AvE, but he isn't perfect and doesn't know everything. It reminds me of people asking all sorts of random science and pseudo-science questions of Neil deGrasse Tyson that are completely out of his field and then giving them more weight than people who actually study that particular field. I've seen AvE make some terribly misinformed comments on woodworking or woodworking tools, essentially equating fine woodworking to carpentry and not differentiating the reasons why some things need to be more precise or cut more accurately.

@Will Pelton Like I said, I love him, but just cringe when people act like everything needs to be run past him for final approval. ;) Reminds me of people wanting Dave from EEVBlog to review every low end electrical gadget, and as Dave says, many of them don't want him to honestly review something, they just want him to validate their cheap purchase.

A lot of features wow. I noticed it was on a stand in sure its for display but I wonder if its also because the saw is heavy and he doesn't want to hold it all day. What about for lefties? I can use a regular wormdrive but this has some features like the rip guide that I don't think would be usable at all for a southpaw. It's honestly a little too jack-of-all-tradey for me - pieces that come off always wind up lost or broken. I think this might get some traction as a specialty tool for flush and undercuts - maybe timberframers - but no way do I see prod. framers trading their wormdrive for this 14 lb monster

One thing that I'd like to see, which will probably never be done, is a set of attachments, or a second body you can take the motor in and out of, so that you have a right sided and left sided version. It'd add a lot more versatility, especially in just general woodworking. It'd be nice if the front piece of the shoe also had a bevel gauge, for if you have corners that aren't square, such as benchless bay windows. I'm not a contractor, but this would quickly replace any other circular saw. It can do vertical and horizontal cuts, and has a wider range of bevels. With a mirrored version, you essentially have 310 degrees of possible cuts from 4 tool orientations, which is overkill but could be useful in some situations. Now imagine adapting this, somehow, to a table, where you could still turn the entire drive and blade 90 degrees for horizontal cuts. Just this one design idea adds so much versatility to the most simple tool.

Wow...That's some impressive innovation... 14+ lbs sounds a little heavy but not when compared to any other worm drive that cuts as deep. And the price seems about right as well... If Festool offered this saw it would be at least twice the price. Hope its not made in China... I'd go to a show just to try this baby.

I’d like to see a video of it removing a subfloor. I don’t understand how you’d be able to cut coming out of a corner since the blade is on the left side. Cutting into a corner I can see but how would you cut into the same corner on the other side? Maybe I’m not picturing it right but I just don’t see how it’s possible. Thank you

Seems like an interesting tool, even though I am a furniture carpenter and not a framing carpenter. But the biggest downside seems to be that it requires specialty blades. The sawblade has to have a recess for the arbor bolt to go into in order to be able to flush cut like that. Unless blades like that become ubiquitous and every half decent tool store will carry them, this tool is basically useless. That's the biggest obstacle a tool like this needs to overcome. I can get blades for my Fein Multimaster in just about every tool store, even most DIY and home improvement stores will carry compatible blades. Same goes for regular circular saw blades. Worst case scenario I can just go to a DIY store and buy a cheapo 190x30 blade and get the job done. It won't be as fast and easy as a good quality blade, but it's readily available.

hopefully by the time the next generation is into the trades all circ saws will be built like this and itll be standard... but for now the cost and extra hassle of this isnt for me if they could partner with home depot i think they could really move this saw and make it widespread enough the blades could come down to a reasonable price
