The absolute Black Hole of metal. They simply crush everything in their wake. Every band that came out in their wake can still never come close tk what Meshuggah still pump out. They arent even a genre, they are simply Meshuggah.

A favorite of mine!! ❤ BTW, these guys are over 50yo nowadays and they're still this tight and solid just like they were in '95! They're definitely amongst the G.O.A.T. in metal music - at least in my opinion.

This song just has that kind of groove your head can't resist following! It's insane that this album came out in 1998. The drum playthrough of "Clockworks" really shows how much of a monster Tomas is on the kit. It's like every limb is playing a different pattern independently of one another, and he makes it look effortless.

This is the greatest music video in history rivalled only by Devin Townsend's Animals. Seriously though, love the fact they're miming properly. Haake especially, it shows how musicians can visualise their instruments. I practiced drums like this for years before I owned a kit. Knowing where everything is, and what it sounds like, once you get behind an actual kit there's only a small transition stage (getting used to the rebound etc. Stick rebound on cymbals is totally different to toms for example.) Banger of a song too. Meshuggah is a zone. Don't sync, don't count, just relax, vibe. It's a Zen thing.

The drummers right hand is often where you can find your headbang with meshuggah. As crazy as the bands rhythms are, he often keeps a 4/4 count going underneath it all. Throw a dart and you'll find a banger with these guys. Also - between the buried and me 😉

Fond memories of when I heard this one for the first time. Was prolly the bane of everyone else in that Best Buy parking lot, but it's a song that demanded volume. 1998 was a shit year, but the metal was pretty good. I don't see this said in the comments so here it is: The story goes that meshuggahs label(nuclear blast at the time, I think) called them in the middle of their tour and he gave them a deadline, for a music video, that they couldn't meet because the tour was too long. So they picked up a handheld camcorder and recorded this. They made multiple passes through the song because they only had one camera. Great ingenuity, on their part. If it was done today, the video would have probably been interspersed with drone shots of their tour bus rolling down the highway. Greetings from Sweden 😊😊😊😊

This album is when they started moving away from their thrash roots, and started getting super dark/weird. All their solos sound like a computer malfunctioning lol😄 This came out in 98, so you gotta realize these guys were way ahead of their time.
