Strait of Gibraltar: A gateway for drug smugglers

At the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula, a stone's throw from the Moroccan coast, the Strait of Gibraltar has become a gateway for the trafficking of drugs between Europe and Africa. The 14-kilometre stretch of water sees a never-ending procession of speedboats loaded with hash and cocaine, despite a police crackdown. Our reporters travelled to the nearby Spanish town of La Linea to meet residents affected by drug trafficking, whether they're participating in it or fighting against it.

Bullshit, absolute bullshit. Gibraltar has always had smuggling, but that has been primarily tobacco & alcohol. Cannabis has always been smuggled through Algeciras & on up into Europe. Stop trying to spin a lie, this is Spain's problem to deal with, not the UK.

Bilateral cooperation between security agencies is not enough while dealing with the antinarcotics operations. There is a greater need of multilateral cooperation for these kind of operations. And we all know that country which victimise itself for opium war against it but it itself get involved in that kind of business when it got the chance. Such a shame on its hypocritical nature.

These same trafficking lines are also used for cocaine trafficking. Spain is one of the main entry points in Europe for cocaine that comes from Morocco. The Moroccan mafia became the largest cocaine traffickers in Europe in the past 10 years because of this.
