My husband and I got stranded in our car in Wyalusing State Park on the Mississippi River when a tree fell across a dead end road we were on right before dark. It was late in the fall season. Thank God we somehow got a cell signal and two maintenance guys came out with big chain saws and rescued us.

Once your boat is moving along the water at a good clip you can pull the plug and the water will vacuum right out of the bottom of your boat and once the water has left you can reinsert the plug. In other words, if you should forget to plug the hole when you put the boat in the water, then just start hauling ass and the boat will clear of water from the vacuum cause by the boats movement across the water. If you find that hard to believe then just test it out because it does exactly like I say.

Local marinas, boating clubs and boat repair shops would be my first choices too, the US Coast Guard is also a great backup resource to call for assistance on all major waterways, including the Mississippi (instead of the fire department - that first place you called was...less than helpful). Coast Guard does not charge for their services or assistance, and they can usually direct you to the closest help or they will come themselves. Another option that you might just wanna carry with you is something like a Standard Horizon HX210, it's very affordable (around $115), has an emergency channel (which is 16), and is easy to communicate with Marine emergency and boat assistance services. A handy little unit to have for just such occurrences.

Welcome to boat life. My first boat had a drain plug that screwed in from the outside. I get to the lake, launch my boat, and take off. The engine died about 5 minutes into the trip. Different issue as I filled up the tank then left it in my truck so the tank in the boat was empty. That's when I noticed alot of water in the back of the boat and the plug in the cubby where I put it after I take it out. You can't reach the drain from inside the boat and can't put the plug in from inside the boat. It was a Tuesday, it was cold, I stripped off what I could to have dry clothes after my swim. I couldn't get my fat ass back in the boat so I had to swim about 75 yards to the shore. Built a fire and dried off, got dressed and fought the wind back with my trolling motor. Boat life is the fun life when you do dumb things.

We have experienced dual motor failure as well. 75hp died, trolling motor battery kaput.....young adult son paddling the runabout across the lake, as hubs in back working on motor.....I'm in hysterics, 😂, best day for son ever...caught the biggest Bass of his life that day!! ❤ Glad you made it back safely!!

But i have to say this was a scary adventure, especially when you got in that quick sand 😮 and then your boat was taking on water and then your motor went out . You need to got an electric fly swatter, one with a light to attract the bugs, leave it on at night and it will attract and kill all the bugs. Works amazingly well, is super light and you just charge it up in the morning.

Living in Illinois my whole life and fishing on the river we use worms for smaller fish/ bait fish and big hooks and chop bait fish for our big cats/ corn on a medium sized hook will catch a lot of carp

Get this product. It’s called “Mr bloody O catfish bait”. It’s like a brown paste that you form a ball of it around your hook. And fresh water fish goes for this every time!!! Trust me and get a container if it’s sold near you!
