A Jouef German electric (BR 139 ?) with the pantographs removed and a OO coupler installed. It was part of a 1979 christmas promotion selling train sets in Irish department stores. In the 1970s, Hornby, Lima and Jouef repainted non Irish prototypes in CIE colours. Jouef opened a factory in Ireland with the intention of breaking into the Irish and UK markets. Their Mark 3 CIE passenger coaches are authentic Irish models. You can get just about every Irish class of loco accruately modeled now. A very happy Saint Patrick's Day to you and your family and all here.

It is a German BR 141 - BR 139 always had a window in the middle of 6 fans. The BR 141 only had 5 fans. The running gear, however, is taken from an SNCF locomotive.

I guess they removed the pantographs to make it less obviously non-Irish. Pretty sure Ireland has next to no railway electrification. Maybe at a distance it could kind of be mistaken for a CIE 201.

It's actually unusual seeing a direct worm drive in a Jouef locomotive! They usually use a combination of spur and crown gears, which might be one of the most unusual designs in HO scale (but oddly the most common in classic Jouefs).
@SMTMainline10 ай бұрын
I wonder why they picked a different design on this model. Do you think it had anything to do with it being an Irish division of Jouef?
@johnd889210 ай бұрын
Towards the end of the seventies they cheapened some models by moving away from the central coreless motor with all wheel drive ( for Bo-Bo type locomotives at least) and moved to that single axle drive with a conventional motor and relying on traction tyres for adhesion. Another was the UK D6100 diesel they made in HO scale for their British circa 1963 range that undercut Triang prices. Being HO scale the equipment looked too small against other British makes and even most HO models on the market. The Coreless motor was to enable the model to run by a battery pack controller for long periods. The Coreless motor being much more efficient and low current. I will search for a vid on this odd model.

Some coverage of early HO Joeuf British diesel sold under the inexpensive Playcraft brand : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXucn6apmbWGjassi=Fj7LwFa3sd1y63CC The motor was not very high quality and long lasting in my experience but a quite advanced coreless concept only starting to be seen, in better versions., in RTR now.

Darth Santa Fe with better coverage of the earlier Joeuf French electric with the elaborate drive system for the time : kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKu6qpmkhtiYp8Usi=5KEjj3sBcTcPGELs Low current Coreless motor so the train could run on batteries and avoid the expense of a transformer power pack. These power packs were as expensive as a trainset in many markets back in the sixties so the ability to run well on batteries was a marketing advantage.
