This story mirrors many aspects of the civil rights case of Standing Bear, a Ponca Chief in what is now Nebraska, United States. He and his lawyers successfully argued in U.S. District Court in 1879 in Omaha that Native Americans are "persons within the meaning of the law" and have the right of habeas corpus, thus becoming the first Native American judicially granted civil rights under American law.

For the last episode, "The Broken Circle", it would have been epically cool and humorous to have a Pakled engineer helping to build the starship and just hanging around in the background and getting upset when his shoddy work get easily broken in the fight scene.
