I Heard A Loud Noise And Found This Outside.
I received a call to a little country church in South Alabama last week for a honey bee problem they were having. While going through the process to examine the situation and evaluate the best way to remove the live colony of bees from the church, I started to hear a loud noise. Through a window i could see shadows moving in the window nearby and ran outside to see what was going on. What I found was amazing. The hive I was about to remove was producing a natural split also known as a swarm. This happens when a colony is strong enough to create a new, second colony, that will fly off and start in a new location.
When this happens, the bees push the queen out and direct her away from the, hive she's currently from. She doesn't want to do this as some have found and tries to go back in the hive. Today, luck was on my side and I found her trying to do just that. I spotted her high up on the wall and caught her before she could get back inside the colony.
I hope you enjoy this window into a fun day of my bee life. I look forwaard to your commentson what you thought.
Shout out to my buds Jpthebeeman, 628DirtRooster and Jeff Horchoff. I won't forget that Y'all had a little bee removal party and didn't think to call me. I will remember this.....wink wink
