At 512 metres, Tibidabo is the highest hill in the Serra de Collserola mountain range. The hill is located on the edge of the city limits of Barcelona and is very popular because of the special views over the city and the green surroundings, which are very suitable for sports and recreation. The hill itself can be seen from almost the entire city of Barcelona. On the mountain there is a large amusement park, the amusement park "Parque de Atracciones del Tibidabo", and a number of buildings, including the church "Iglesia del Sagrat Cor". This church is sometimes compared to the Sacré-Coeur in Paris, not only because they are similar in decoration, but also because both churches were built at a great height and because they have the same name.
The Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart is the work of the modernist architect Enric Sagnier, finished by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal. Its construction began on December 28, 1902 and was finished in 1961. For this work, Pope Pius XI gave Enric Sagnier the title of marquis in 1923. Before that, a small chapel was built, which still exists next to the temple, built in 1886 to commemorate the visit of St. John Bosco to Barcelona, ​​to whom the land on the summit was given. Today the temple belongs to the Salesian Congregation.
Three parts must be clearly distinguished:
The crypt built with brown, rough, heavy stone.
The church above the crypt with polished grey stone from Gerona.
The copper image at the top.
Three parts, for a symbolic explanation of purification: sin in the valley at the foot of the building; a heavy, fortified crypt with Byzantine arches, earthly symbols; a graceful, purified, ordered, polished, simple Gothic temple and, above all, even purer, the copper of the image of the Sacred Heart with open arms as a bridge between heaven and earth.

Si subimos por la de la derecha, nos conduce a la diminuta ermita primitiva (data de 1886), costeada por la dama barcelonesa Dorotea de Chopitea, en el punto más alto de la montaña, con una imagen del Sagrado Corazón en su interior , así como a la primera terraza (518 m.), con unas buenas vistas sobre Barcelona, el mar, la entrada principal de la cripta y el Parque de Atracciones.
