The reversed tape before played correctly sounds like the speed chipmunk rave tunes where bpm went through the roof!

In Japan there were a whole bunch of tape delays that used 8-track cartridges, I'd love to see you mess about with one of those! Kastam and Guyatone are the most common ones I've seen. Great video though! I bloody love tape echo and really must get a standalone unit in my life, my reel-to-reels aren't quite scratching that itch for me...

There's a blue leather cased Watkins with a gold faceplate which has varispeed and 5 switchable heads on it. I don't think it has wet only but it sounds gorgeous. It was one of, if not the last of the proper tape echos they made in the early 2000's before going to digital boxes.

The wheel you're manipulating is not the capstan but the pinch wheel or pinch roller. The capstan is the smaller metal wheel on the other side of the tape, which actually drags the tape.

4:17 sounds a bit like Heart of Glass by Blondie. Love delay and echo huge part of reggae dub versions.

That first tape sounded more mettaly and not to overwhelm but like it had a cutting clarity and a cold distant feel... the new tape has that is louder has a warmer fuzzyness to the sound and feel of it. I noticed the original tape was darker on both sides, the new tape is the brown backed tape... it is loud but has a fuzzyness to it, like the tape should have been prepaired by recording all at loudest to silence or a test tone to wear in the tape? idk im crazy. shrugs My adhd aside, is it the same material? as doesn't switching tape medium going to change its responce characteristics? Like before it may not have had as much gain, but its noise floor seemed lower. Almost feels like yeah you are getting more gain but theres some bias pot to be adjusted somewhere. I dont like the new tape, has a higher noise floor... the warmness to it is neat, but feels fuzzy. It would be neat to see and hear different tape types on this device to showcase how different tape materials and types can change the sound. Each material type has its own designed magnetic range and some need to be recorded to differently and it would be neat to hear without changing any settings how other tapes could affect sound... heck why not make a special tape, layered? Like I am wondering if 2 tapes ran opposing to eachother, each with a read head lined up with eachother close enough they could read eachothers flux... what happens when you record that way, and have to synch up both tapes, or then vary the speed of the tapes, because then whats happeneing is in the magnetic layer of the 2 mediums speeding at eachother as they interact magnetically as you take them both in and out of synch. more of an electromegnetic effect than processing 😋😉 anyway... well if tapes are synched it would be a solid file, but if they where time shifted, their flux feilds would interact? idk, lets get crazy... what if 5 tapes ran across 2 read heads with with record in the center top and bottom, then the tape going in could have records and reads... what sounds happen at off axis conversion in the center? maybe a way to get different tracks in a room single track recorded to keep spatial relivance? idk im off in the woods again wondering around resistors capasitors and all sorts of components... its a forest out here but somewhere in here are some ideas. tehe I'ma go talk to CoPilot about it.
