Stranger Things 4 is EMBARRASSINGLY Awful

Today, the stock image queen has returned to eviscerate a beloved season of television in the most fair and loving way possible. I love Stranger Things. And yes, I am not showing mercy.

i miss the whole mystery of season 1 and 2 and that everything was unknown and never revealed fully until the last episode but now it feels like all the mystery and unknown is gone and a ruler of the upside down makes no god damn sense

I watched season 4 long time ago, so maybe I am wrong, but in every season, the atmospfere in upside down was toxic, hopper, and joyce had to wear a special masks to breath here, but in season 4, they can normally walk there, for a long time, and they feel great, no coughing or choking from toxic chemicals. With tye exception of season 1 Stranger things keeps replaying literally the same plot everytime. Introduce a new character and get him killed, get new pairing for friends and set them to discover, meet up at the end and Eleven tries her best to fight but get incapacitated but through the power of friendship inexplicably strains her face and screaming while holding tye villain at arm's length and finally defeating it.

More like they're afraid of killing main characters. Max dies - comes back to life. Hopper dies - comes back to life. Things are looking hopeless? Eleven puts out her hand and fixes everything. It ends up giving off the vibe of how unserious/no-consequences everything is, and even some of the actors want to be killed off. And the worst of all is that they keep characters from the main cast who are essentially useless (i.e Jonathan from middle of s2 onwards), but kill off the actually interesting side-characters (i.e Eddie, newly redeemed Billy).

To be honest, I understand why Steve would still be soft with Nancy, as he is - noticeably - a hopeless romantic at heart and a commitment not only reassures him that he is loved (which he does not get from his family) but also gives him access to his utopic dream of a perfect family (which, again, is something he does not have). However I agree that him getting back with Nancy would be nonsensical at this point, that ship has sailed and the breakup made him better. At this point, it'd be a waste of their story and Nancy and Jonathan's story, and also... Nancy isn't the best pairing for him, at this point. I hope they don't pull this bullshit (pun intended) in s5.

5:15 I agree that killing a lead would benefit the show, but in this case it wouldnt. Not with Max. They shouldn't have fake-killed her int he first place to begin with. Max throughout season 4 shows lots of growth, how she goes from a suicidal depressed teenager to a person who wants to live and continue her life. Max is probably the most relatable character in s4 and killing her ruins the whole ideea of wanting to live and getting over suicide thoughts. I wish she was perfectly okay after the battle, not crippled and blind thats messed up

Stranger Things 1 and 2 are just like completely different shows compared to 3 and 4. That mystery and grounded feel has been completely abandoned. Season 3 literally has secret Russian spies in a secret base under a mall. It’s like the show became a caricature of itself. Season 3 and 4 are like the Disney versions of stranger things . I’ll say that 4 is better than 3 but the amount of retcons that ruin the character arcs of the first two seasons leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Just AGREED. Thank you! I haven't been able to find anyone on the internet who shares these opinions. It suuuucked. It's a totally different show and I miss the original from the first two seasons. They've stripped down the characters and turned them into almost fake unbelievable people at this point and so far from who they were painted to us in the beginning. The only character development that I think was really well done was Lucas, he makes sense, he's still grounded. Steve to me is no longer himself nor is Nancy or Jonathan or Mike. Will we didn't really get much of this season so I still think it's possible to redeem his arc. They've made Dustin way too over the top. Eleven's story line bored me to death and it was just all so dramatic and come on bringing back Brenner from the dead is super annoying and unnecessary and the dramatic goodbye to him is insane, he literally abused manipulated and tortured her. Joyce annoyed the shit out of me as I feel her character lacked depth this season and wouldn't have gone in the direction she went in. Hopper seemed more like himself than in season 3 but I don't like the direction they took his character overall. I don't understand when the show became a comedy I really don't need to be fed jokes every other line, it doesn't feel realistic anymore versus the subtle day-to-day funny moments that fit the characters and the story in the first two seasons. I'm so disappointed in the Duffer Brothers mostly because I really thought they'd stay grounded and not turn into big blockbuster fan service like so many other directors and creators do.I know this in their own words is the way they planned it all along so I guess I misjudged them but it's a bummer. I honestly hope someday someone gets the rights to the story and completely changes it from season 2 forward to get a more grounded story.

Exactly what u said about the comedy, it doesn’t seem realistic at all like it’s gotta be this forced cliche joke. And people also say the show wasn’t as mature or dark in the first season like hopper was taking pills and drinking alcohol after losing his daughter and his wife leaving him, Joyce had her child go missing and everyone thought she on the midst of schizophrenic breakdown and she has her alcoholic ex husband that comes back and does what a bad ex husband does, Johnathan is just trying to keep it together with his mom losing then his dad comes back. And that’s not even half of it civilians getting killed by government agents, that scene with eleven with she makes everyone bleeds from the eyes(absolutely loved that scene), etc. I remember when eleven flipped a van and that was the most craziest thing that happened now it’s just unhinged. And the kids in season 1 and 2 man they were perfect the kids felt like actual kids hanging out, and they had that conflict with eleven and will and mike and Lucas got into a fight, that scene was so great because it was perfectly set up and executed, prolly my favorite scene in the show

I mean it was the 80’s and I don’t believe all people that say stuff like that actually mean it, I think they are just trying to make an insult and which back then was one people used. I don’t think it should be used but I don’t think homophobic intention so we’re put being it he was just saying a slur or insult that first came to mind to use against someone he disliked. Also as I said once more during that time period it wouldn’t have been seemed as a big deal or homophobic but as the series moves on the times become more accepting and don’t normalize slurs. Also as I said I don’t believe Steve was a homophone was the start whatsoever because he wasn’t hating on anybody who was actually lgbtq he was simply calling Johnathan something that Johnathan wasn’t even himself.

I think it's important to notice the clues of when and why characters say what they say. Steve calling Jonathan a slur wasn't him being a homophobe as if that is ingrained in his character - it was him lashing out, because he was hurt and wanted Jonathan to hurt just as much. He also talks shit about Nancy and about Jonathans family during the same moment, but obviously the things he says then are not reflected on his character and real values. He isn't homophobic with Robin because he isn't a homophobe.

Thank you for making this video I thought I was the only one. And that shootout scene made absolutely no sense, like when mike, will, and johnathan were in the room, the soldier broke the window then shot them, how in the actual fuck does that make sense, these people im supposed to take out are mostly in this room, so let me break the window with the butt of my gun and start shooting. It was acted well and shot well, but that doesn't cover up the absolute braindead of these soliders. Then the one soldier, who broke the window comes in and does he shoot at the 4 people lined up on the wall, not looking at him, no he doesn't, he just runs up the stairs and takes a belly full of lead. I think as this show goes on, it becomes more and more obvious that this show supposedly only being planned for 1 Season is the actual truth. Like don't get me wrong, but it's quite literally a show that gets worse and worse the longer it's drawn out. I think a part of the problem also is as kids some of the actors were good, but now they've grown up it's much easier to see and be honest about how bad of actors some of them are. lmao The villain is also ultimately... disappointing. A human being the villain means there needs to be well done setup, and what Henry is given simply is not enough. Since the video references Breaking Bad, look how long and detailed the build up to Walt becoming a villain is, and why that character is considered one of the best written ever. Now contrast that to Vecna where his villain origin story is literally explained in like 30 minutes. Him being a human there's some expectation to be complex as a human character. Whereas if they had kept the true villain this unknown entity it wouldn't seem as well... strangely paced, really.

My biggest complaints about s4 are how stupid and one dimensionally written the jock dudes (Chrissy’s bf specifically) and the military were. Because why the f*** are you willing to kill off and murder innocent people because of PURE speculation???? Innocent until proven guilty thats there law but no they don’t wanna follow it. And why in the world did Chrissy’s bf just have this major switch up like I didn’t think he was too bad of a person and then after she died just BAM he becomes a psychopath, and the scence where we was using the Bible to his advantage was just so cliche and hard to watch because I know people do that but it’s so wrong and honestly hurts me as a christan. Also why was he willing to murder his friend because he thought highlight the world THOUGHT he did something. Like again what happen to innocent until proven guilty? And the police officers were NOT doing their job right because you do NOT name drop the suspect ever to the public or anyone until there is enough proof to do so. Eddie wasn’t perfect but he didn’t deserve what he went through.

And eleven was really annoying in the way she reacted to their cliche tricks as well. And why is mikes ENTIRE a character just “in love with eleven” I cannot stand characters whose entire personalities are their girls or boy friends because it’s unrealistic and annoying. The crazy thing is that Jason (Chrissy's bf) was doing things like taking the matter into his own hands, investigating the mysterious stuff himself and with his friends and not trusting the authorities to do their jobs, which in season 4 is coded as very bad. I disagree with everything you said about the dialogue, the “quip” nature of dialogue is SOOO overused and I think Marvel is mostly to blame for that. So seeing these characters actually talk like normal people felt refreshing. Additionally, rather than faulting season 4 for Steve’s (regression) as a character, I think you should fault season 3 for making Steve seem 100% devoted to Robin, because season 2’s climax was CLEARLY setting up that Steve was clearly not over the whole Nancy situation. Also I do agree that they should’ve killed max this season, it would have set up actual stakes and removed a character. But I am actually so relieved that Hopper didn’t die in 3 because that season BUTCHERED his character, and I’m hoping for some of that lovable detective dad hopper from season 1 in season 5.

It's strange that Will only started to show that he likes Mike this season, a lot of people might be like "oh, but you might start to get older and realize that you like your friend, it's the hormones" and yes, it makes sense, but shouldn't they have done this when they started becoming teenagers? What I mean is that they should have started dropping hints that Will liked Mike in season 3, which was when they started talking about puberty and raging hormones and all that stuff. Well, the answer to them doing that is that they didn't write Will as a gay character (even though to me he was ALWAYS gay and I always felt like we had something in common that I didn't know about) and they only ended up doing a character with several queer characteristics by chance and they were like "oh, wait, I think we wrote a gay character" which coming from two super straight guys doesn't impress me. and another thing that has always surprised me: why suddenly Robin, such an intelligent and cool character in the last season, became an annoying nerd in the fourth after she came out as a lesbian, and because she is no longer considered Steve's ideal straight partner, she is no longer a cool girl? strange brothers, just a little suspicious...

I think my biggest problem with this show is just how random some of the characters choices have been For example 11 being bullied by other kids in school when her whole journey through seasons 1-3 is meeting people and becoming a person instead of a weapon, but now apparently, 11 who has battled monsters from another world, claims her bullies are her friends. Steve and Nancy being together when Johnathan and Nancy had been building up their relationship for three seasons when this is so very out of character for Nancy because even though this is a time we’re long distance relationships weren’t really a thing but Nancy wheeler has shown herself to be convicted, strong, and determined. Now she’s just allowing her ex boyfriend to talk about having kids with her despite having a boyfriend, and they just turned Jonathan into a stoner. Which is just stupid because Jonathan is a smart guy. He’s been through so much and would not throw away his life. Or will being gay. My thing isn’t that will is gay. It’s the fact they try and do this to Mike and will. Mike has been obsessed with 11 for ages. Been dating for years and was a horrible friend to will in season 3. At this point in the season will is 11’s ADOPTED BROTHER. Why in the hell would you write a character to fall in love with their siblings boyfriend. If you want to do it right, have will acknowledge his feelings but understand that he needs to let go. Stop relying on Mike who has become a cold and distant friend. Realizing he is his own person and the group as a whole isn’t who he is. Finally the scientist guy that raised 11 (I forgot his name) being alive. This is the biggest retcon ever. If you think about it for 5 seconds. The entire California subplot with the scientist falls apart. Finally the biggest problem is vecna. This massive dimensions as a dark reflection of our own? Yeah it was accidentally created by humans. An evil mustache twirling villains. I am so tired of seeing people going “oh you can hear the clocks since season 1” which in all honesty let’s be real, it was just a cool effect they did. Vecna doesn’t work because it implies all the otherworldly stuff happening was all man made, also coming with retcons to the latter half of season 2. Now every kid had the same powers? Yeah so 11’s arc in season 2 makes 0 sense now

My problem with it is they completely ruined the mystery. Like Hawkins lab was the perfect catalyst and mysterious place to have all this scary stuff happen because it keeps it undercover, and unknown. A strange, unknown facility with god knows what inside. But in S4 the cheesy Scooby doo house doesn’t hold any mystery at all. You already know it’s scary, you already know there’s something inside. It’s the same fate every horror movie suffers from: KEEP THE HORROR MYSTERIOUS Vecna could’ve been so could, but they made him a Scooby doo swamp monster that no longer holds any horror or intimidation at all. It’s the reason every horror movie fails. Look at smile for example, smile (mostly) kept it mysterious and never gave the smile a voice except for the ending. KEEP IT THIS WAY!! The unknown is always scarier. Showing the true threat ruins your story and characters. I really hope they try to remedy this in season 5. No hate to the duffer brothers, they’re legends.

One thing that truly bugs me about the show from S3 on is It’s crystal to me that the Duffer brother LOVE themselves think they are the coolest people on earth and must show everyone all the cool shit they liked and how bad ass it all is!!!!! What I mean by this is what started as a wonderful little love letter to the 80s has turned into a nostalgia coke fueled bender where every single thing must be shoved down your throat and smeared all over the screen. S3 is bloated with references nods and call backs to every facet of 80s culture to the point where I wanted to vomit. There isnt an ounce of restraint from the show runners in any way shape or form. And this lack of restraint doesnt just apply to references but in the way they have stretched this story and cast. It’s like watching someone fill thousands of diet coke bottles with mentos until the room fills up and drowns them. I mean for fuck sake it feels like 1/4 of the main cast doesnt even belong on the show anymore and the only characters they have the balls to kill are introduced in that season alone (an issue that started in S2 with Bob). Ive always been on the “it shouldve just been a miniseries” train and I stand by that now even more.

Season 1 wasn't all that great either. As someone who actually grew up in the 80s, this show's member berries parody was way too cringe. Season 1 felt like a bad second-hand impersonation of 80s movies. If the show only got worse from there, then it sucks for those who bothered to continue with it.

Yeah. This is one of the reasons why I don't watch Stranger Things. Well this and I was bored and annoyed from the start season 1, episode 1. If I wanna see a show about monsters with drama that sometimes is being stupid and not necessary, I'll stick with Supernatural (2005 - 2020). No offense to anyone to does watch and like Stranger Things.

@@drip2575 I don't know. I guess it doesn't click with me in the same way Supernatural (2005 - 2020) does. Plus, It pretty wasted Will's love arc by Season 4, because he can't be gay in the "80's". Notice how I put air quotes around 80's? That's because it didn't look like they were in the 80s, They looked like 2000s or 2020s kids trying to act in 80s. IT (2017) was more 80s than Strangers Things. Speaking of IT (2017), It would definitely prefer Pennywise over any of the monsters and villains in this show. I like the design of the Demogorgon, but it's just a generic monster that eats people. Vecna is your typical saturday morning villain, and the human villains are so damn flat to them, other than one group being russians. Also, There was no reason for Eddie to be dead, and Hopper to be alive. Eddie's death was only made to drain the tears from the audience's cold Michael Myers-like eyes, and Hopper's only alive so can we can continue the boring af russian storyline. But These are all just MY opinions. And it's fine if you have different ones. We don't have to duke it out in the Thunderdome or anything.

Ok so I just finished s4 of stranger things and I have a lot to say so I'm just going to be breaking it down to the significant details. Warning for very long rant lol 1. I disagree with disliking vol 2 of stranger things.I loved it and personally thought that vol 1 was the worst season of stranger things. it just felt so boring, nothing was really going on and Vecna's introduction just came out of nowhere to me. The only decent episode in Vol 1 was the last one. Vol 2 is where the plot starts kicking in and we get to see action rather than just the characters doing random things that get them nowhere. 2. The california crew was fun and I enjoyed them but I agree that they weren't rlly given much to do (they were missing for a full episode for goodness sake!) The specific victim of this was Jonathan, like s4 robbed him he used to be this quiet and brooding, but secretly a sweetheart teenage boy who had a lot of trauma due to the environment he grew up in. But then he was reduced to slightly more mature version of argyle in s4 like wth? 3. Ok wtf was up with the love triangle? Steve had feelings for Robin, he told Robin he was over Nancy, so why did he regain feelings for her all of a sudden? Steve and Robin both knew that Nancy was in a relationship (a relationship that had a lot of development) yet Robin went crazy whenever nancy breathed near steve and steve creepily told nancy that he wanted to have 6 kids with her and that if he had matured sooner he and nancy could still be together?! First of all their still very young and second of all NANCY HAS A BOYFRIEND! Why in God's name would steve be telling her crap like that knowing she's in a new relationship? They should have just given Steve a new love interest or a character arc exploring that he feels satisficed with himself despite being single. Oh well, at least Steve wasn't moping 2 much after he saw Nancy and Jonathan reunited. 4. Ok slight break from negative talk to point out my favorite things about s4: how good of a character Murray is,how happy I am to see Hopper gain a bromance and a romance! I loved how now more than ever before Stranger Things is putting emphasis on character dynamics. I also love Erica maturing without losing the child-like traits that made her Erica! Her development from going to annoying to iconic is something I love! Also the CGI and action is great as usual. Billy having an impact on the plot despite being dead was great 2 since he is one of my favorite characters. (I think you can tell by the pfp lmao) Vecna is also a phenomenal antagonist and I enjoyed seeing the background of the upside down! 5. Eddie's death was so underwhelming. Once again another supporting character was killed off and while I do like that he became courageous and sacrificed himself that plot has already been done and done better by Bob and Billy. Also like you said he just looked plain stupid while he was doing it rather than looking like a hero) Also the way they made it so dramatic and emotional was pathetic. We had barely any time to get to know Eddie as a character or his relationships with other characters yet they still made it so dramatic. Also why weren't we shown the other character's reactions to Eddie's death. He had friends yet apparently Dustin and Eddie's uncles were the only one's that cared? So yea I do think that Eddie is highly overrated and his death was just dumb. 6. On the topic of character deaths, why the heck did they kill off Jason? Not only was his death extremly fact paced, but Jason was shown to be a good guy who cared about the ppl he loved deep down inside and the fact that it wasn't explored further upsets me. It;s like they killed him off just to add to the body count. 7. They did not know what to do with Brenner. He seemed to have cared about El yet they still pushed him as an antagonist. He died trying to save El's life and El acknowledged it and said goodbye to him and then the next episode El calls him a monster? It was so dumb. Also what about Dr. Owens and the army guy? I'm assuming Owens died in the explosion but not only was this not confirmed, but nobody seems to give a crap. Ridiculous. Also the army guy was shown as a threatening antagonist out to kill El but then just disappears in the finale. That's all I really have to say about it. Stranger things 4 was a great season and I did like it but it's certainly not as good as the earlier seasons. If you actually read all of that, then ty and have a good day/night!

And guys, i didnt need like 5 full out torture scenes, 10 Times Bones crushing and eyes popping, Bad ass gun Fights, thousands of nightmare Scenes, people constantly Shouting into my ears, endless time in Brenners dungeon. That all was useless violence that was not fun but probably traumatised many children. Awful screenplay. Zero Suspense. 95% of all dialogues were so hasty and forced cool that noone could believe it, camera never rests, never time to breathe. I am happy it is over

I strongly disagreed! I don’t think Eddie died for nothing. I think he was very thoughtful and grateful for everything he’s ever gotten and I think it was a brave move that he went out there and sacrificed his life for Nancy, Robin and Steve. Now I don’t want to say that season four sucks buts it’s not season three. Season three definitely is the best in my opinion but season four did have a little bit of a downfall, but it still is really good in my opinion, and I think it should’ve gotten the love and support it deserves.

I personally don't mind Stranger Things having too many characters. Cobra Kai also has too many characters, and generally, nobody seems to have a problem with that. And just because they have too many characters doesn't mean writers have to go in-depth with every single one of them. Sometimes, side characters are just there to help the major characters. Besides, I don't think the Duffers intend to write characters with fleshed out writing and amazing arcs. Perhaps they focused more on the visual effects and aesthetics of the show (such as lighting, camera angles, and soundtracks). I love Stranger Things for the adventures, mystery, and 80s nostalgia. I guess this is why I didn't hate season 4 because I'm not really a judgmental person.
