I feel like the director and the brothers discovered a lot about the people in the first season, and then decided to give them more depth. Like with Steve he was supposed to just be a stereotypical bully but as the director and brothers got to know him they realized that he could show so much more so they paired him with Dustin which made the season 100000000x better in my opinion!! I also think hopper and eleven are an AMAZING pair to act together, hopper is my favorite too and I honestly love the second season so much
