Turns out that Hugh didn't feel the same way as JJ but it all worked out fine, bring in Baz.

Fascinating. Wasn't long after this that HC bailed out. He doesn't give much hint of that happening here..

HC didn't do himself an favours in the way he left the band. Apparently he went to a gig one night and the next day he quit on the phone to JJ just before they were expected to tour the US. Very sad because they were creative enough to find new music - they demonstrated that with a broad range of sounds generated over 16 years. One of the best bands the UK produced.

Wrong...the album 10 produced for the US market and it was not released there and they didn't get a North American tour

HC left thinking he was the new Sting but it all backfired and would now play in a phone box in Cockermouth.

JJ: We get on fine. Don't thread on anyone's toes. We know what we are good at and not good at. Little did he know, ay?

he was like 'it's totally fine that we all do different things apart from making music together. I teach karate, for instance, and Hugh does 😑😑😑😑 other 😑😑 stuff too, totally fine by me😑 '. 10 years later: 'you don't get it, by that time he betrayed being an underground rocker! he found a theater agent!! he got himself a stylist! HE PROMOTED JUMPERS! WTF!'

When they toured in Poland, which was still under Soviet esclavage at the time, with their draconian rules when it came to musical and youth culture, my friend Mario was there. 🙂. But he could'nt get in cos hé was too young but hé hung around outside and heard it all. I hope you're reading this, Mario. I doubt it, probably too busy driving a bus in Bolton or back in Poland driving a tractor from dawn till dusk. Hopefully I'll get to meet you again one day at Rbllyon. Don't stop listening to The Stranglers, man. All zer best, Spik.

The Stranglers just wouldnt have been thé Stranglers with Chrysie Hynde singing. It's not just their iconic musical sound that distinguishes them, it's also Hugh and JJs singing. I love their voices. Dave was uniquely good singing too. I liked Celia and the Mutations, her voice was more suited to their sound...but thankfuck it wasnt a permanent project. I still love The Stranglers even with the newest Line Up but for me, the Hugh Era version was and will always bé THE BEST. I love them. 😎🖤🐀

Could have played some of JJs Euroman Cometh to even out the solo stuff. It was just Hughs, and not even his best. 🤨 (Still love you though Hugh!)

Hugh doesn't like repeating himself eh? His following solo albums would probably discredit that statement.

Shuggie thought he was better than the Stranglers... Where is he now? Living of the meagre royalties of his solo career and the substantial royalties of his former collaboration.
