With a lot of time, it might work using this technique, but I don’t think you could do anything cool with it. You’d still only see 2.5km of segments, and you wouldn’t be able to drive on it or anything cause it’s orbital. I don’t think you could even dock to it without running the risk of loading physics from a new root part.

Wow, that's a really nice find with the loading of crafts. Now it should be possible to make a stock space elevator. :D Edit: Maybe it should be time to have an official advanced setting for KSP, like PRE. Often it's pretty limiting with the 2.5km. At least let's hope KSP2 get's better in this aspect.

Ok, that was a magnificent video as always, with a *genius* solution to a problem that I’d never encountered. The ion takeoff from the bridge was honestly my favorite part, because building a 5km bridge as a takeoff platform seems like the most Stratzenblitz thing I’ve ever seen... I loved this, and I can’t wait to see what crazy thing you do next! Also, that “roll with it” joke was too good...I laughed harder than I should’ve at that...

So you could build a ramp to space from the ksp? With a simpler, drivable design that lags less, it should be possible to make it useful even. Since only the parts within 2.5k will cause lag, it should be fine.

Thanks! Its not loading physics for the 3000 parts, so I think it will be better than you expect. Its nothing like the lag of the 100 kiloton rocket that I built. Plus, not all the bridge segments will load at once. If you are at one side of the bridge, the other side will be outside of loading range and so won't be loaded until you cross it.
