I rode with George Hincapie recently and I'm pretty confident I earned his respect in how fast i was at getting dropped.

Phil is a cool dude. He does our local group ride sometimes. Good job hanging with them and getting some KOM's. You should have had a podium picture at the top with Phil, instead of sandbagging junior podiums!

Haha! Totally did that strava hack with some teammates a couple years ago. It was 3 of us and we were about to hit a segment in a massive tailwind. I had gotten the KOM by myself and they knew it. The segment started with a quick little descent that doesn’t do much for the overall segment but where you can really pick up good speed. So while they started the segment, unbeknownst to them I sat there for like 2-3 seconds then hit it and caught up to them easily. Sure enough, they had a mind to go after it and we rotated paceline. Kept my KOM that day haha

If you start your segment 5s before the others and you finish together, it mens you where faster, there is no hack about it, just logic
@TheVCAdventures7 жыл бұрын
+abesstian but to ensure you get it. Sometimes it will randomly give another dude in the group a faster time. Or maybe someone attacks and beats you to the line.
@alvoryx7 жыл бұрын
you mean "after" the others
@alvoryx7 жыл бұрын
let me explain you : first, it depends on the gps device eveyrone is using and the lag of each specific gps chip. some chips are more accurate than others, and by accurate I mean that you can have, on the floor, a difference of a few meters(10-20feet) from one chip to another ! then it depends how the operating system/firmware is inputing/outputing the gps chip, this can also lead to differences. finally, speaking about lag, let's imagine you are the one equiped with the most accurate gps chip, if the "refresh" hits your direct opponent gps right on what is defined in the segment as the "finish line" then he will be designed "first", even if he was in reality behind you. This is because, in that example, bad luck, your gps get his refresh after you passed the finish line :) It means that strava is then unable to accurately determine when you exactly passed, so it will use the "most precise" information it has but which, in fact, is already a few seconds ahead your opponent. For strava you lost when in reality you won :) Another scenario could be that the in-accuracy of your opponent's device could, potentially, "push" him 5meter/15feets ahead even if both your devices are updated at the exact same moment. At the end you will NEVER get accurate results on a finish line using gps technology. It's not the purpose.

StealthElectronVIP doesn’t matter if he jumped in at the bottom of that climb or half way up that climb.. fresh or tired, it’s quite an accomplishment for anyone to stay with that level of riders regardless of whether it’s 10 feet or 10 miles. They are at another level and obviously VC fitness level is towards the tip of the spear regardless of what group or ride he jumps into. The dude is no joke. No, I wouldn’t know him if I saw him so he’s not a buddy and I’m hyping him. I just admire and appreciate hard work and it’s obvious that he takes his fitness very seriously. I just love the dudes passion for doing something that isn’t easy. We need more people in the world like him.

That's how it is in America! Drivers don't care. It's extremely scary when people are passing you at 45-55 MPH (72-89 KPH) sometimes.

@davidtt83728 жыл бұрын
I've had similar experiences on long bike rides with my wife where I unknowingly start a segment after I've dropped her and slowed down to let her catch up and we finish the segment together. Afterwards having her brag to me about beating my time on a segment when she sucked my wheel and struggled for 4 hours.

Ok, I'll just say it. All road cycling Strava segments are effing moronic. Either you have more power and you win by default, or you cheat with the wind, passing cars, other bikers (like the dude making the video), rest right before the segment, etc and then your win is empty and means nothing. Compare that to trail/enduro/dh segments, where actual skill enters the picture.
@dodgydodds7 жыл бұрын
Bear Arms becuz muh mountain biking is betta dan effing road cycling. *** walks off dragging knuckles***

And now that you "got the KOM" you became better than these PROs? Do you even became a better cyclist? Have you improved your FTP? Have you improved your W/kg ratio? If not i can't realise your joy
@TheVCAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Its about motivation, you train so hard and often dont see a win. Strava helps give you a feeling of accomplishment. Its like racing, you dont set new prs. or really get faster in that one day, but you test yourself. I tested my self here and didnt fail, that feeling is nice, which makes me want to keep training.
@Dumah17 жыл бұрын
ok, keep on getting motivation, but in case you want something more than that it's about time to leave strava, Koms, segments etc and focus yourself on some serious hard training
