I've NEVER peeled figs! There's no need to. Strawberry figs are the only way I put them up. I love strawberry figs!

Never crossed my mind to use strawberry jello to add the strawberry flavor, this is a game changer for me. I have lots of dehydrated figs and am looking for a way to use them. Thanks so much!

That jelly is DELICIOUS! We don't have a fig tree yet but we're definitely gonna have to get one so we can make some of your jelly. Hopefully it will turn out as good as yours. Thank you so much, Mrs Wanda.

Great video Wanda... just like being in the kitchen with the sister I never had, looking over your shoulder and learning! Now what I really need is you to show us how you clean that stove top! I have the same one and fight that area around the burner.

I haven't used a dryer since 2006. It's my choice but I don't have a channel about being frugal either. I hang my clothes wherever it's already hot and if you have a shed/greenhouse/carport etc then that is sufficient for clothes drying. I have a line stretched across the span of my carport and one in my shed. There are a lot of creative ways to air dry clothes.

I just watched a video Starry Hilder did using jello to make berry jam and I left a comment telling her about this recipe you did in this video. Love it when things come together! I think you can't tell the fig from real strawberry jam using the flavored jello. Wanda you ignore the judgementalist viewers and use your dryer anytime you want. Sometimes penny pinching just returns you more of the same from God and the universe which many don't understand....the reaping what you sow spiritual concept.

Thanks, the dryer is a "as needed" item in our house. It had rained some every day for a few days and I needed to do laundry. LOL Also we canned all day, strawberry figs, fig preserves, fig jelly and dill pickles. I bet they would be using a dryer, too if they had all that to do in a day. Plus 3 meals. Thanks for the kindness.

Thanks Wanda, will be making some today. Have you made green fig preserves. I had never heard of them before, but a recipe popped up on YT. Now I know what to do with those last ones on the tree when the cold hits. I had lost many on the trees before, not this year. Found numerous recipes now that I know there is such a thing. Another strange critter deterrent that nature showed me. A poke berry bush came up between my fig tree. At that time I was recovering from surgery and it got really large with the purple berries on it. Would you believe it has kept the birds and fruit flies out of my trees for the 2nd year. Does it work as a natural way to ward off critters?????it has for me. I will leave the poke salad berries as long as it confuses the critters. Thanks for sharing, know how busy you are. I don't do a tenth of what you do and I am worn out, maybe we can rest this winter.

Hello Wanda. I am reviewing this video again today. I finally have enough figs to try this recipe. Fig newtons are mentioned on various videos but I have not found one that shows how to do it. Would you be interested in showing how? If so, I will know about it because I have subscribed to your channel. Have a blessed day.

Looks wonderful!! Although I never tried figs, wondering how they sell in the health markets that look like yours❤ What would be the best way to purchase? Dried, jar'ed, sealed in bag's? Not sure how they are packed for purchase. Thank you Wanda.
@DeepSouthHomestead8 жыл бұрын
They will only last for 2 days fresh so you would have to purchase them already canned in some way to make them last.Thanks

Is it strawberry figs you have or regular figs with strawberry jello?

them look delicious, wonder what strawberry fig bars would be like. huh. you make canning look easy. i dumped out jars that were 6 years old. tomatoes looked good. wouldn't eat them. how long you keep canned food?
@DeepSouthHomestead8 жыл бұрын
When I came here 3 years ago, there was canned food from 2008 - 2012. We ate lots of the tomatoes, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes and a few other things and started adding our own each year. Now we still are eating some 2010 and newer. Our goal is to keep it to 5 years. We feed the pigs any that we have that looks bad or gets past that. The only exception is green beans and tomatoes from 2010. They are still very good.

Wanda, you said a Gallon of figs..that's 16 cups? To 1 1/2 cups sugar?

Hey Wanda, I canned my first pickles last week and when the jars cooled they had this white powder like film on the outside? What is that and are the pickles okay to eat? Thx..love your canning videos!
@DeepSouthHomestead8 жыл бұрын
The pickles are ok. Did you can in chlorinated water in the canner? The chlorine will do that.
@janpartain9248 жыл бұрын
I bet that was it. Maybe next time I'll let the caning water sit overnight and see if that helps eliminate some of it. Thanks so much!

Wanda. I'm wanting to make these very soon and was wondering what you cucumber to onion ratio is.
@DeepSouthHomestead8 жыл бұрын
Those are strawberry figs, but if you are talking about the refrigerator pickles-- I fill the jar with cucumbers and as many onions as you think you want. 1, 2, doesn't matter. We like the pickled onion as much as the cucumber. So any ratio works. Your choice. Thanks
@Wendyann11008 жыл бұрын
+Deep South Homestead Lol. Don't know how that happened. I was watching the relish video.
@DeepSouthHomestead8 жыл бұрын
The videos jump sometimes. I knew it had to be one of the pickle ones. On the relish, same goes, whatever ratio you like the taste of. Thanks
