Growing up in Mississippi my grandmother had 4 large fig trees that produce big juicy sweet figs. My grandmother, mother and uncle used to can figs and it would be sooo good. They are all gone 💔 to live with the Lord now so it's up to me to carry on the family tradition of canning whole figs preserves. I'm 58 yrs old and I really enjoy it as I think of the memories 😭❤. Thank u for sharing your fig preserving. 💕😉

I really like the simplicity of your recipe. I have been a Georgia gal all my 59 years and love figs. My grandparents used to grow their own figs, fruit trees and vegetables, so they did a lot of canning. I got to help out a bit and then enjoy the fruits of their labor of love all year long. Now it's my turn to show my granddaughters and looking forward to trying your recipe - had to edit after using your recipe with my granddaughter: Delicious! looking forward to this seasons figs, and using your recipe again!

I just got some figs from a neighbors tree this evening and went searching on what to do with them. I've never had em fresh tree ripened. I tasted one and they're really sweet so I'm not adding any sugar, just a little honey to mine when I preserve them. But thank you so much. Enjoying the video and subbed 😀

@@toddjones3046 I'm in Lousiana, too. So if you mean the type of fig tree that produces figs, there are none that you can grow in a container - partly because they get huge. But there is an ornamental type of fig tree that is grown indoors, but it doesn't produce figs. I'm nut sure, but I think it's called a "Fiddle Leaf Fig".

Thank you for this video! I used to make them when my kids were growing up (and a time or two since), but they're now in their 40's. So I watched several videos for a refresher course, and yours was by far the best, and the one that was like I thought I remembered making. Do you know how long these will be good when canned properly (I sterilize jars, lids, do a water bath)? I just found some that I did about six years ago, but don't feel they would be safe to eat after this long. It's the first time I've ever had any left over that I forgot about. xoxo

I sterilize everything but don't do the water bath. You could do the water bath, I just put the figs in the sterilized jars when they are so hot that they seal properly. I've eaten some I've had for a couple years.
