This story is well over 5 years old. The school isn't even open anymore. Outs along with several older larger school were closed for economic reasons. The neighborhood itself is going through gentrification. Those same houses which used to be abandon and cost a dollar or now worth several hundred thousand. The neighborhood is changing fast. If you don't own your property you're more than likely pushed out. As for the children, most of them have been absorbed into nearby Dobbins or Gtatz high schools which are better anyway.

These children are our future no matter how far you are from Philadelphia. I’m in NYC and some of these kids could be our future hairdresser, nurse, doorman, attorney, our child’s coach. This reminds a lot of my highschool just on a much bigger scale, 4 principals in 4 years, and the last one really gave a shit and we all loved her to death. She was strict, she didn’t take any shit and wouldn’t stand for violence or hate of any kind from both students and our very prejudice teachers, but she cared so much. I almost didn’t pass my senior year due to excessive absences from my dad passing away from cancer and I was having a whole slew of medical problems doctors couldn’t figure out and she wouldn’t let them fail me, she put together a report and asked me to provide medical records and she was going to fight the case to the school board for me because in her own words “You and your family have enough on your plate that you all need to be focusing on, let me handle this one for you.” And she did, I graduated and passed with good grades. A friend of mine was kicked out of her ultra religious home because she dared to have a boyfriend, she went to my school and was staying with a friend. Went on vacation with the girl, just the two of them at spring break to the beach and she caught the flu which spiraled out of control fast. The other girl didn’t know what to do, neither of their parents were answering their phones so just on a whim she called our principal, who drove 3 hours to come pick them up and take her to the hospital, called my friends parents and ripped them a new one for kicking their teenage daughter out and not picking up even when she had a fever so high it could’ve killed her. A week later my friend moved back in with her parents but our principal called her up to the office once a week after that to make sure she was okay and everything was still okay at home. She did slightly scare me when I first met her because she was strict, but she was fair, no matter what anyone did she gave everyone the same punishments for doing the same thing and when they were done she would look at them like a clean slate, she actually cared and wanted to be there for the students even when she was going out of the expectations of her job she would do it without hesitation to help any of us. She’s the only reason I stayed for my senior year and didn’t take online school (okay maybe a bit of a lie my art teacher too they were like the same person in two different bodies), I love her and all principals should be like her and this woman, they are what makes or breaks not only a school but a community Also glad they’re doing sports at that school again, the more extracurricular a school offers the less fights they’ll have because kids get their energy out and they also don’t want to jeopardize something they love doing being taken away. Our cheerleaders never did anything to get in trouble because they knew it would only take 1 suspension or 3 detentions and they were off the team for the year and our principal wouldn’t cut anyone slack just for being on a team or being a good player, if anything she held them to a higher standard because they represented the school on away games

_What they need is a martial arts class in judo on a daily basis this installs discipline respect for others plus they learn a skill to protect themselves and less likely to carry a gun or knife. Wearing a school uniform is always a good thing only if the other schools do it as well should be state policy. But introduce martial arts and your have better behaved children. You have to blame the state for not funding housing better, look at the state of these places where these kids are being brought up. Kids shouldn't be stressed at that age and this is the problem they are stressed worried so the parents so that makes a kid even more stressed out. More parks in these areas better after school activities Sports, and not isolating kids to these schools they should be introduced to other schools out of the area. Diversity is the spice of Life guttering people is only going to make the problem worse. Free lunches if they are on a low income free travel to school on back should be introduced if it.isn't. what do the local authority County spend these taxes on??? Clearly the government are not giving enough money to local authorities I'm assuming. Does this school or schools like them have a counsellor nurse? The pupils need somebody to talk to confidentially, a lot of kids are bullied themselves who commits bullying maybe at home or even sexual abuse so a friendly ear somebody who is trained is a must. Take the kids on more trips as well reward them for their behaviour and grades at the beginning of summer holidays, a kid gets isolated because of their behaviour soon realises that they need to change the attitude no kid wants to be isolated, it can be as simple as giving them an ice cream or some sweets for behaving properly. I bet these schools don't take these kids on holiday's? a educational holiday Abroad preferably some of the time. I'm sure the local community would help with funding some of these activities if they were aware of them. You need some carrot not just stick, the stick works only for a short time and doesn't help in the long term when the pupil becoming adolescence. Clearly I can see that music room isn't really utilised or used at all shame! This is very important music is a great unifier when people get together learn how to sing play instruments together. Bring the local community into the schools by holding fates and sports days._
