Stawberry’s friend Orange blossom was the first cute, dainty and fairy-like Black character I saw in media, I even had a doll and several outfits with Orange Blossom and Strawberry Shortcake on them as a little girl. I was so disappointed when later designs whitewashed her but I’m glad to see that’s been fixed and she has her brown skin back in the newest iteration

Looking at the brief 1.5 reboot dolls here 12:25 we can see an Orange Blossom doll who had very dark skin. That impressed me greatly because for non-white characters most often dolls are produced with much lighter ambiguously brown shades where you have to guess the doll's intended race based on other features. But this Orange Blossom doll had no ambiguity at all, she had a very deep skin color & great hair. Wish we could've seen more Orange Blossom dolls like her.

Something that I really really liked about the Gen 2 Strawberry Shortcake characters was their love for curly hair. It made me, a girl with curly hair, feel so appreciated and it was so nice seeing my hair type so nicely made and associated with such cuteness.

personal related story: when i was a toddler (around the time g2 SS released) i received Strawberry and Orange Blossom dolls. But for some reason the Strawberry doll's rooted hair fell out shortly after being removed from its packaging. Like, ALL of it just fluttered down from her scalp like prickly red snow. This was a bummer for me, because i really liked how pretty her hair was and it was a brand new doll for goodness sake!! i had no idea why this happened, but one thing was for sure- she still SMELLED good. And, as a toddler, when you notice something *smells* good, you think perhaps it also *tastes* good. So, now that she was conveniently bald.....i licked her head. thinking it would taste like strawberries. Obviously, it tasted like vinyl. But this is a core memory of mine, because it was one of the first times I had put my monkey-brain problem solving skills to work. "Hm. Smell good. TASTE good?........nuh-uh. Will from now on know not to lick thing that smell like food but not LOOK like food." p.s- when i was little I shipped Lemon and Raspberry before I realized what shipping was. Personal Tie to Strawberry- I hold Strawberry Shortcake close to me as a comfort show (I absolutely do still occasionally watch G2 episodes as an adult). I had to get a horrendous amount of rabies shots in kindergarten, but after every appointment for another shot I got a Strawberry Shortcake doll, as long as I didn’t fight the shots which I’d never do with Strawberry Shortcake on the line. She got me through one of the hardest points of my childhood.

I was a kid in the early 2000s, but I inherited a full collection of Strawberry Shortcake dolls from the 1980s from my great aunt. It included almost all of the dolls available at that time and their pets. I even had one of the original product catalogs! It’s such a treasured collection that we still have to this day-it may look a little worse for wear but boy were those dolls loved! ❤

I never actually had too many Strawberry Shortcake dolls growing up but I was familar with it in the early 2000's, my mother had placed Strawberry Shortcake themed wallpaper in my bedroom as a baby and I also watched the 2000's T.V show a lot and visited Blockbuster just to pick up DVDs of the episodes. (In fact, I actually watched a lot of doll T.V episodes and T.V specials from Blockbuster and gave me an interest to collect 2000's toys like Bratz or MLP Gen 3 dolls) But in 2008 when the franchise was given a Hasbro reboot, I watched the new CGI T.V premeire special and I was not a huge fan of it even at a young age. But the 2000's T.V show made my youth, I found more episodes online and I even found a DVD for the first CGI Strawberry Shortcake film from 2006 called "The Sweet Dreams Movie" which after watching reminded me of the two CGI Care Bears films from the 2000's by translating the art style of the T.V show into mid 2000's smaller budget animation but it quite charming and not ultra lazy like another studio I'm thinking of. I also watched a few 80's T.V specials as well.

I hadn't thought about strawberry shortcake in a long time, so seeing the 2003 designs hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia. 03 strawberry reminds me of playing outside in the yard on our playset, overgrown around the edges, smelling like cut grass and dirt. The familiar creak and groan of the swing, the faded, frayed jumprope my sister and I continually left in there. Going inside after a few hours and drinking crystal lite while watching strawberry. Interesting fact about the 2003 iteration of Strawberry Shortcake: American Greetings apparently planned to reboot Strawberry Shortcake as far back as 1998. Gift wrapping and stickers with that date on it appeared in Toys R Us in 2000 with a design that was the precursor to 2003 design of Strawberry Shortcake.

Some thoughts.. 1. I think I vaguely remember the Sweet Dreams DVD, brief times, brief times of Blockbuster. 2. Did Gen 2 have a scooter? Somehow I either had a Gen 2 or 3 scooter and I don't know where it came from. 3. Gen 3's McDonald's toys are like a vague memory as well- Specifically how some kids collected the "stamp clips", and I got Raspberry's. I also recall these "rubber quickchange outfits" that Strawberry herself was with. I have no idea where the stamp and notebook went, but it's one of the many weird McDonald's promos I engaged in. 4. I like the official-Gen 4, in visual variety- a shame it, like Rise of the TMNT and Ducktales 2017, are snubbed in designs and merch for their much more famous 80s designs. 5. I didn't even really know about the whole sweets motif, since she was called strawberry lisa where I'm from. Looking up the other character's names, they seem to do the same. i grew up loving the 2003 show sm, was addicted to the songs at that point too- [i was once obsessed with the strawberry shake song in my teens lol] and my father once had a burnt-to-blank-dvd copy of the sweet dreams movie and gave it to me to watch more than once lol, but i found it a few weeks ago and it got ruined, so i had to bin it.. and then when the 2009 reboot came around, i got the 'sky's the limit', 'the berryfest princess' and 'the glimmerberry ball' dvds from my local shop at the time and watched them countless times, i always loved their new designs too when i was younger, but now that im in my 20s, theyre a bit too samey.. i never had much of the merch tho, except for a 2003 strawberry doll with custard [the one of her sitting down] idk if i still got all of the clothes for the doll, but i do still have the doll and idk abt custard either i also had an angel cake rag doll plush, idk if i still have her anymore, but she used to be my fave bc she was blonde lol [i had a thing for blonde girls when i was younger, idk why lol- so i was also a fan of bratz' chloe] [THE 2021 DESIGNS ARE ATROCIOUS- i also never knew abt this apricot character either lol]

Gen 1 Strawberry is pretty metal. She asks the Sun to raise an army of trees to lay siege to her enemy, and then has him begging for mercy at her feet. As a 6-year-old. Like damn. Gen 2 and gen 3 Strawberry are just ridiculously wise and stoic, like they are twice as old as their friends in terms of mental age. Especially gen 3. I really like the Sky's the Limit movie though, mainly for the ending. I also like gen 4 a lot. It was made by Mike Vogel with music by Daniel Ingram, so it really has that MLP:FiM feel. The characters all have well-defined and compelling personalities and worldviews that play off each other in interesting ways, and the writing is really tight to fit the 4-minute format. I'm curious to see how this is going to translate to the longer 3D specials. I'm not completely sold on the animation yet from the previews, as it feels kind of lifeless to me compared to the 2D version, but I'll definitely watch it when it comes out.

When Strawberry visits Angel Cake in the first episode the water flooding out of the sponge cake is such a clear memory for me I dont know why haha! Thanks for the vid was very nostalgic ❤️

I was a Generation 2 Strawberry Shortcake fan as that's what was on TV when I was a kid, I never knew about Generation 1 and had no idea there was Generation 3 & 4 :c Now I'm 24, comfortable with myself and can enjoy what I want without peer pressure or stereotypes, holy moly Generation 1 gives me so much life and I'm adding some references to my cottage-core themed Animal Crossing~
