'Bleeding my brain' I think refers to the discredited practice of blood-letting, which was used for 90% of illnesses including any form of mental health, haemorrhaging, a way to 'reduce inflammation' in child birth, head colds and a list if equally ridiculous conditions and situations. It first started about 3000 yrs ago by the egyptions, and was used up until the late 19th century in Europe. It is still used for around 2 or 3 conditions today, but has mostly been debunked and deemed to have no posative effect. The pigs default 'costume' is a butchers apron, boots, and so on.. I think it refers to the old adage 'pigs to the slaughter' except the pig is the slaughterer.. pigs are also farm animals.. and controlled by people who want to eat them.. I believe that's were the music industry regerence comes in. I also believe it is a comment on how, our worst enemy is ourselves.. as well as a comment on current society.. we are the biggest and most advance parasite.. we live on a living planet but deprive it of its resources, making it sick. Most of us know this but continue to do it because we are built for relationship. We are built to follow the crowd because it increases our chance of successful relationships. Platonic or not. But because we live in a broken society we are forced to take ourselves to the slaughterhouse, so to speak.

Guys. I freakin LOVE you both! I just want to THANK YOU for taking the time to do research about Ren,and how the entire medical community Failed Him for WAY Too Many YEARS!! 😳😢 His Lyme Disease went untreated for so long that it did a lot of damage. Anyway, listening to him in an interview & getting the backstory really improved your overall “peeling back the onion layers” in this song. Great reaction as always 😊 Just before Ren got sick, he was signed with Sony records. Contrary to what you might hear, they did not drop him. He was trying to hide how sick he was, going to the bathroom during rehearsals, throwing up blood, and going back to rehearsal like nothing had happened. He had lost weight, and when he collapsed on stage, he couldn't hide it any longer.😢 Sony told him to take a break, rest, see a doctor. He had a 5 yr contract with them. After 5 years, he was sicker than ever and was hardly able to get out of bed. They met and decided not to renew the contract. Ren asked if he could keep the music he made while with them. They agreed.🙂😮

Snake Oil. Ren early on was searching for the root cause of his illness. He tried many things, such as fecal transplant to change his gut biome. That is the type of snake oil shit he went through. Ironically, changing to a hardcore Paleo diet later on was one of the solutions. Over time that would change his gut biome and improve his health. You bois are just skimming the surface of Ren so far. Can't wait to watch more of your videos.

Fecal transplant is actually a treatment supported by the medical community in certain circumstances. I definitely wouldn’t call it ‘Snake Oil’ (what he’s going through at the moment however is another story if you research the doctor and clinic) - Ren said in an interview the fecal transplant made him worse because he didn’t know about his MCAS so he basically had an allergic reaction to that

I’m glad you checked out some of Ren’s interviews. He is so eloquent and has become a voice for the voiceless, especially those struggling with chronic illness and mental health issues. The Zach Sang interview is one i would recommend, especially if you want to learn more about the recurring pig character. I also appreciate your insights into his rap as it's not a genre I know much about. I hadn't grasped the meaning of the 'suicide' line so thanks for that! 'Standing on a precipice' is being on the edge of a large drop, like a cliff. I think the woman playing the therapist does a great job and is rarely acknowledged (if ever!), especially when Ren confronts her up close! His acknowledgement of being part of the problem is refreshingly honest, more of us need to take a look in the mirror! Ren went years misdiagnosed depression bi polar chronic fatigue syndrome he had recording deal in 2010 with Sony why working on his album he got sick and couldn't finish it so they parted he moved back to Wales he would become so sick he became bedridden for up 23 hours a day it would take years before he get the right diagnosis he has Lyme disease the meds they had him on caused him to have psychosis he got PTSD but not from meds he has had 2 stem cell transplants done they told him it was all in his head that his mind was making him sick he went so long misdiagnosed that he has Brain damage Organ damage Joint damage he in Canada right now getting treatment he has to have IV 5 days a week they put this thing on his head that help open path ways in his brain he take hand full meds 2 times day he can only eat 2 kinds of beef and few Vegetables because the autoimmune cause his body to have allergic reaction he also has ADHD

The thing I always think about when hearing "Sick Boi," "Chalk Outlines," and a few others from Ren - and something I've experienced myself - is how tough it is when you're misdiagnosed and the doctors are giving you meds for illnesses you don't actually have (something that Ren went through for YEARS). Meds change the chemistry in your body and brain and, if you don't need the ones they're giving you, then those extra chemicals are throwing everything in your mind and body off balance... ON TOP of whatever illness you actually do have. They can actually create an even worse situation than the one you came in to get treated. And, just like in this video, their answer is usually to increase the dosage and wait a few weeks to a month to see what happens, or switch to another version of the same medication you don't need and wait to see what happens. This can go on for months or years before they figure out they're on the wrong track (if they do at all). Or, if they're particularly jaded and/or out of answers, they just throw anti-depressants at you to cover the symptoms and send you on your way. Then they go on with their lives while you're sitting at home downward-spiraling from the extra chemicals you didn't actually need. It's brutal. And Ren really knows how to put all that into evocative words and lay it over a beat. Plus he adds the societal stuff on top, bringing that extra depth to his music that elevates it to another level.

The full hour interview was posted 10/31/23 and they also posted a shorter clip with the meaning of the mask. It was a brief discussion towards the end of the interview. But I agree he also wants to keep the meaning broad and open to interpretation. I think that’s just how he was thinking of the mask within the context of the interview.

Ren is a big fan of the books Animal Farm, and Lord of the Flies. In Animal Farm the Pigs have control over all the other animals, and humans. The pig represents the doctors, politicians, record executives that have lied to Ren. They have also done things to hurt his career. Ren's video for Animal Flow actually has a passage from Animal Farm written on the wall.

My belief is that the pig is an allegory for the pigs in George Orwell's Animal Farm? "Four legs good, two legs bad." "All animals are created equally, some animals are created more equal than others." The last quote showing that even though that a civilisation may have equality laws or a supposed equality - society isn't a level playing field and the system recognises some people's status as being more important than others and therefore more valid. Ren is extremely well read, that's what you get when you have so much downtime in hospital. It also stems from the upbringing he had, surrounded by his parent's library and vinyl collection. Ren's misdiagnosis and subsequent psychotic break(s) were a result of the wrong medication interfering with the chemical imbalance in his body resulting from the Limes disease.

No he just used that theme for his video animal flow but when he wrote the song and others he did not have Animal Farm (it's Animal Farm by Orwell) in mind. He clarified this in an interview. He said he's keeping it a secret what the pig represents. He said he enjoys seeing people's interpretations of the pug but for now he's staying quiet on it. I saw an interview with Ren, and he said that he wanted everyone to interpret the pig themselves. My take is that it is corruption in any industry. The pig shows up when he’s talking about the medical industry, music industry or the financial industry and so on. As far as future songs, since y’all are rappers, I can share the name of a couple songs. If you want to see him rap rap, then I would suggest The Hunger, Genesis, Power, Losing it, Fisher Retake, Right Here Right Now (Fatboy send retake) and Murderer. I think, thematically, you should watch "Illest of Our Time," which is the hip-hop double you would guess from the title. Philosophically, Ren has a short video posted called "Eden" where he relays "our" story - the story of humans. It's really interesting and worth a watch, though it is not a song. It ran at the end of the "game" he hosted before releasing Money Game part 3. It was several days of hard riddles that had people all over the world working together online to solve. All to find a suitcase of money. There was a twist and then the video Eden played. Great reaction! What you said about this song is true for the whole "Sick Boi" album; Ren explores the many ways of being sick. "Seven Sins" is the first track and the perfect choice to start the album. Super 🔥🔥🔥

Information by the way. Ren got a record deal with Sony in 2010 when a talent scout discovered him as a street musician. In 2016, Sony terminated the contract due to Ren's health. They just dropped him. But he has managed to have a number one album in the UK charts as an independent artist. As always a great reaction from you guys. free writing essay (aka brain dump) here - About the pig, I was just thinking this so I guess this is just my interpretation. I just find that if you apply the themes of Animal Farm to it all it lines up pretty well. From what I heard it might not have been intentional on Ren's part. Even in Animal Flow, the concept came with the video. I find the discourse of 'all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others' is one that shows up a lot for example in the medical world and in the (ultra)capitalist world that Ren criticizes so much. Spreading the general idea that what they do is for the benefit of all, but really doing it for themselves, which is really backwards if you think of the origin of that tale. Also the pig in the story, controls the masses by pitting them against an enemy, which is a theme that Ren speaks of a lot too, in Money Game pt 1, obviously but also here and there in other songs. So really what I'm saying is that whenever a pig shows up in Ren videos, I look for the element in the song that has the 'orwellian pig' role. I look for themes of leadership, social conflict, identity, the worth assigned to things and people, equality, greed, corruption of industry and humanity. I look at where Ren places himself (or the character he's embodying eg Jimmy and the Cannibal King) in that dynamic. I guess im just talking out of my --- on this but it seems like it fits. edit- i find symbolism of animals in this stuff really interesting. In the last years the meaning of the word 'sheep' has mutated really quickly. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the word 'pig' change as well.

If you guys want to continue into some of Ren's deeper messages about society, check out the Money Game trilogy. "Money Game Pt 1" is deep and theatrical (though probably not something you'd bump in the car), "Money Game Pt. 2" is a little more of a polished song but is equally deep while focusing on a different part of the money game, and "Money Game Pt 3" is, imo, Ren at the top of his story-telling and video-production game. All are good. If you just want to hear Ren go off with the rapping, check out "Losing It (Fisher Rap Version)." If you want to hear Ren in hit single mode, check out his song "Humble (ft. Eden Nash)" or "Murderer." If you want Ren rapping with some EDM flavor, check out "Down on the Beat." Or, if you want to continue with his medical/health/mental health story AND hear him singing a little more, check out Ren X Chinchilla on "Chalk Outlines (live)." Tbh, it's hard to go wrong with Ren. He's got a million flavors and the talent to back them all up.
