The mics are according to preference. 3racha have always prefered hand mics so they almost mever have headsets. But in recent years (mostly due to their tours) all the other members have started to prefer hand mics as well. The last one still sometimes using headset is Felix but even he prefera hand mic now because it can catch his voice better.😉

Fun Lee Know Fact : Lee Know was a backup dancer for BTS during the 2017 Wings Tour and in the music video for their song "Not Today". He was also a dancer in Jungkook's "Begin" performance. He was a profesional dancer and competed in dance competitions before joining JYPE.

Love how in love Eric already is. so proud. Also you were talking about that hand mics over headsets and you will notice in more recent songs that nearly all members have switched to hand held, Felix is the only one I remember seeing use a headset recently. They just like it better and in fact there is a video where you can see Lee Know getting super frustrated with a headset, I think the cords were getting in the way of his in ears and he has said he will only use hand held mics from then on. They really value their live vocals and don't mess around.

First time finding you guys. Love your reaction style. Thanks for checking out Stray Kids! I see a ton of comments so sorry if this detail was explained. Hand held mics seem to give better sound for their live vocals but the group individually used what they were most comfortable with and now all use hand held mics. Danceracha will sometimes still use headsets when debuting a new song because they want to fully show the choreography and hand movements.

There are two specific parts of the choreography that relates to cooking. First one is the "du-du-du... etc" that's them chopping on a cutting board with a cleaver, and the second is holding the wok and using your back hand to throw ingredients/spices into the wok. Han also have a few moves that are about cutting on a cutting board with a smaller knife and tasting the food. It's very on the nose, but looks extremely cool.

I’ve been watching y’all’s for so long and I became a stay a couple years ago, so this really feels like world’s colliding. YEEEESSS I've been waiting for Stray Kids they are one of my fav groups of all time. I do hope you guys also go into some of their slower songs. They seem to have this connotation around them that they only make loud "noise music" so i hope you can show the guys how multifaceted they can be. Any song you pick for them will be a bop and I'm kinda hoping Chk Chk Boom is one you end up showing them or even Come Play from the arcane soundtrack. While I don't think Come Play is a complete example of their sound it will be interesting to see them react to that song also knowing they watch Arcane.

Since this SKZ series is itself an expansion further into the world of JYPE, I wanna touch a “JYPE expanded universe” element in this video (and “Back Door,” whether or not you’ll be covering that song): The girls in the pit crew/garage shots were (at the time) trainees/contestants of the Nizi Project (“rainbow project”) survival show. Unlike the Sixteen/Stray Kids shows, not all the contestants were already JYPE trainees, and instead it was an open audition, where some of the ultimately-chosen members ranged from having no prior formal training (before undergoing a relatively abbreviated training period under JYPE tutelage) and others were years-long trainees from JYPE or other agencies/academies. That group (NiziU, pronounced “need you” with a soft-J for the Y) was formed as part of JYPE’s “globalization through localization” business strategy, whereby instead of eventually introducing an established Korea-based group into a foreign market, they would gather talent from directly within that foreign market (in this case, Japan) and then train them under k-pop training system.

So regarding the other “globalization through localization” groups: * Boy Story for the Chinese market, who were effectively “patient zero” for the business strategy before it was publicly formally named and announced * NEXZ, the Japanese boy group from Nizi Project season 2 (which is frustratingly technically season 3 had nomenclature not been shuffled around retroactively). This one’s business strategy got a bit murky since they essentially had a dual Japan/Korea simultaneous launch rather than being strictly focused on Japan. * VCHA, the N. American girl group from A2K/America2Korea (or NiziUSA, as I like to call it). Though they made Korean music show appearances, I believe that was just a matter of convenience since they were training at JYPE HQ; otherwise, all other indications were that they were intended to focus on N. America. Seems like next in the pipeline is a Latin American group, and then Europe. I’m real curious about how much behind-the-scenes music writing/production talent they may take advantage of in Europe, given that so many of the biggest pop hits of the ‘80s, the original Y2K teen pop explosion, and even early 1st/2nd gen k-pop came from European songwriters and production teams.

While I personally feel like VCHA made actual good “Disney Channel music,” sometimes the abandoned market opportunity exists because of a lack of public interest and will resist even good entries in that space. Combined with what sounds like a health hiccup with Kaylee, I believe JYPE/Republic are taking the hiatus opportunity to regroup and come back with a different approach. I do hope, though, that when they return, they still have a unique character for the group, because I think the scene is overly saturated with a lot of same-sounding music, which all bleed together irrespective of whether any one song is itself “good” or not. FWIW, during JYP’s (the person) appearance on the BYOB Pocha web show a few days ago, he does specifically talk about VCHA and reference the existence of a Korean-American in the group, so that at least indicates the group is still an on-going effort and that Kaylee remains a member. (For anyone with an interest in hearing 1st gen artists (JYP himself, g.o.d.’s Joon, and Fly to the Sky’s Brian) talking about the struggles during the foundation of the industry and the long-term perspective of the back and forth of importing Korean-Americans and American music to develop k-pop and then now exporting that transformed product back to the West, I highly recommend it. It’s also predominantly in English, so very little reading required.)

Stray Kids is a South Korean boy group under JYP Entertainment. The group was formed through a reality show or survival program called 'Stray Kids'. They debuted in 2018 with their 'I am NOT' Mini Album. The group is currently composed of 8 members : Bang Chan (Leader), Changbin, Lee Know, HAN, Felix, Hyunjin, I.N (Maknae) and Seungmin. Woojin/KIM WOOJIN left Stray Kids in 2019.

The choreo on the DU DU DU is definitely knife chopping, but SKZ does love their gun sound effects, too. Have never heard car backfire posed as a theory before, but that does also fit. The tang, tang, tang part also has multiple levels of meaning to it, as the korean word for soup, a description of spice or flavor profile, and also again as a gun noise. SKZ be cooking, constructing, experimenting, and competing with their music in a way that is both fire and unique to them. Love this M/V and song 😅

It also has to be said. Performing LIVE in a lower register is actually harder than high notes because going low needs extra breath than a line that you can scream or force out. So if you listen, Felix was not singing his iconic part live, BUT eventually he does have moments where he can grunt it out. But now, he has mastered it already and the Chk Chk Boom stage performances are a clear proof of it.

3RACHA has always used hand held mikes from the start, VOCAL AND DANCE RACHA has also used the headset from the beginning but slowly through the years all of SKZ started using the microphones but Felix is the only one that has sticked to the headset, now and again he will use the microphone
