You have a good heart, respect. But let them smell you like 2 times max they will hit or bite you gently like on this video. After that dont do it again. Just sit next to them for like 15min and talk calmy like you did. They will trust you way earlier! And come to look for shelter with you.. you probably wont even wont need food. I know from experience. I did this a lot of times with puppys and kittens in the dominicans.

I’m 12, and I’ve got feral cats in my neighborhood, a cat shook into my house and gave birth in my closet, we got them out, and that cat raised my cat now (Oreo) in my front yard. I gave food and petted Oreo when she was a kitten so much that now she runs up to me everyday and rubs against me for pets, she shows me her stomach and lays on me, she had kittens and now I’m doing the same thing I did with Oreo! They play with me so much now and their bites hurt lol. They are 5 weeks old we are currently waiting till it’s about 8-12 weeks to be adopted!

@@bluebirdoz9055 Getting a little scratched is just part of the process of training a feral kitten to trust people lol. They need to learn that your hand touching them doesn't equate to a threat. Most people at shelters and facilities wear gloves while doing it.
@bluebirdoz9055
@bluebirdoz9055 Жыл бұрын
@coolguyjki they're also much smarter than this person and know not to wave their hands in front of a scared feral kittens face. That is not how you teach them touch is a good thing. They only see a giant in front of them with a huge hand waving around. That is not only making the kitten more scared but also putting yourself at risk of hospitalisation from an infection. Shelters and foster carers catch the kittens, take them to a vet to be neutered and vaccinated. The way they slowly tame them is wrapping the kitten in a towel or blanket like a burrito and holding them, gently patting their head without risking getting clawed.

@@SoftExo I never understood these tic tockers and people who have time to make videos just to get attention. I guess they are independently wealthy. I have never made a video but I should learn since I teach drum lessons. I've saved many animals but never thought of making a video of it. Usually it just happens and I have to react quickly and the last thing on my mind is taking out my cell phone to capture it on video. For everyone watching this: never approach a panicked kitten with your hand so close to its mouth. I've been in this exact situation, saved a kitty that was very afraid, same age as this one, and it bite my finger so hard in a split second, that he actually severed my nerve and damaged my bone. Took months to use my finger again, and I was in constant sharp pain for the whole recovery duration... I've had at least 30 kittens in my life (multiple female cats that got litters), and I really was unaware how strong their bite can be, and how sharp their teeth are. Makes you really realise that when they play fight with you, they're actually very gentle. Anyway, dont approach your fingers to their mouth until their calmed down.

@@alexcsr6450 I would have had the same reaction as you, until it happened to me. I've been bitten by small and large cats my whole life, I enjoy playing fight with my cats even if my hand ends up scrached and bitten to blood, I don't mind it. But man when that kitten bit my finger out of panick, I swear it was like I put my finger in an electrical outlet, I almost fell from the surprising pain. Turned out he severed my nerve and dented my bone. It's been more than 6months now and I still feel like my finger is a bit weird. About the kitten, it took a few days for him to not be afraid of me, and then he became the most lovely cat, sleeping against me every night, following me everywhere etc Still very agressive/dominant with other cats tho

This reminds me of meeting my kitty. She was only partly feral, afraid of people but with some signs she had been exposed to them before. I Had to get her out from under a bed; she had come inside to share food with our family cat. Then I sat with her in a small room until she was okay with me sitting there, and let me open cupboards for her. It was two months before she stopped pretending she wasn't following me around my apartment on purpose. Now we've had almost six years together and she is curled up on my desk.

My own cat passed away last summer. A friend found her with a load of kittens 15 years ago. She hated people and other animals. But I took her home and she became one of the most affectionate and communicative animals out there. When I would speak to her she would talk back. I never understood what she said but yet in many ways I did. I recorded some of the conversations. The hardest thing was to be with her when she had to be put down. You're doing stellar work.

There's no better feeling than gaining trust of a feral cat. It went pretty fast! We adopted a 2-3 years old cat, she was not socialized yet, but we took the risk. First few days, or weeks, she spent hidden away from us (behind TV, behind curtain) and she hissed a lot. I was the one who spent the most time with her, speaking softly, petting her with her toys and then I was the first allowed to pet her. Unforgettable.

@@raven4k998 I mean scaring the kitten on accident can lead to illness is what I mean such a small kitten is so scared of humans It’s possible to get ill so I’m worried for that kitten one way to get a kitten not to be scared is to place some food while sitting a little far but not too far so the kitten can see you and after a while of doing that it could trust you

@@DRAKETHEDINOGECKOTHERIAN then you need to cuddle him and love him start off with food treats and get him used to eating from your hand so work towards that goal so he associated you with pleasure and learns to trust you simple enough but it will take patients and working towards it don't just try and force him eat eat from your hand straight away start with feeding him at what ever distance he's comfortable with and slowly move him in closer to you over time this will take multiple feedings but it's the way to beat scaring him because your not giving him that huge fear shock he can get used to it and adapt

Spitting is not uncommon if you just stuck your hand in the face of a stressed kitten. This person could've fed it and let the kitten get used to their presence instead of scaring it like that and he would've caused the poor kitten much less stress. But I guess that gets less views than scaring the animal so you can film it attacking your hand.

The kitten was scared of something harmless. He was no doubt hoping to see that through repetition, he could show the kitten that his intention was not to harm it. When that didn't break through to the kitten, he left to get food and come back.

Feral kittens (and cats) take some time to gain confidence. They, however, are worth the time spent on them because when given attention, love, and care they turn out to be very dedicated cats to whomever puts the time in. I have had one feral cat and do not regret it. I believe her estimated 8 years in my house were her best in her life. I appreciate ths persons time in rescuing this cat. Bless you.
