Stream and Record Unreal Engine in OBS

Here's everything you need to know to get started streaming in unreal engine and OBS. This is a really great way to get started and get moving. Obviously there's a lot of customization you can do. This is just the basics.
Sorry for the audio, I recorded this on two computers and I sometimes strayed from my mic.

How would I add only a single actor to OBS? Would I just have to add a green background and key it out in OBS? Or is there a way to just capture the actor?

Awesome. Can I connect my camera through the regular usb cord to my computer and then capture / record unreal background in 4k with me on top of it from the camera (on a green screen)? Also do you happen to know how I can record both feeds: the background of unreal only and the live composite at the same time?

The first thing is definitely doable. I don't think there's a great way to multiple feeds without an external recording device. OBS can record multiple audio layers, but not video.

If you choose ‘start recording’, Will it record the game audio, too? I have to capture some gameplay in UE5 including its sound. I can probably V/O separately when it exports the video :)

Do you have a guide for capturing in editor? I find when I'm trying to record stuff i'm building or working on it stutters quite a bit.

@@freeman1075 Switch to windows 10+ for capture from whatever the default method is. I think that was the fix.

The moment I launch OBS my unreal quality gets rough and choppy both in the editor and OBS. Tried another screen recording app and had the same issue. This happens on both my PC's. One with rtx3090 and one with 3060. Before launching OBS everything runs perfectly in the PIE window on both machines. Any thoughts?

You could try skipping the nvenc codec. Since nvenc and unreal are both GPU. Maybe close other windows?

@@WoodyDevs So I did a frsh install and it works fine until the project finishes "preparing shaders" and that's when the choppiness starts. After that, if I make the Unreal window the active window it works correctly again. A weird little issue for sure but at least I can make it work by ensuring the PIE window is the active one.

@@NanoNutrino after OBS is running, click on the unreal engine window, making it the "active" window. That seems to "fix" it for me.

I'm curious how this compares to using Off World Live and the Spout plugin to stream from Unreal to OBS. Have you tried it?
