Wow that's pretty high tech for it's time, having an aux input! Can't believe it still works too. Must've been a super-high-end unit in it's time I guess? Great choice of material to play into it, too! I'd put it on at night and kick back and close my eyes and pretend it's the 50's :)

Capta Praelium the guy I bought it from says it’s been restored so presumably they put new tubes and caps. The auxiliary input was a huge surprise to me as well. I was looking at schematics I downloaded and saw part labeled “phono input.” I found an RCA-to-3.5mm cable, RCA plug fit right in. Turned the selector knob until it was neither AM nor FM, and suddenly heard audio from my phone. It’s pretty awesome. Don’t know the original sticker price in 1948.

It most likely was restored. I do not hear any 60hertz AC hum which most likely indicates at the very least, the 40mf/40mf electrolytic filter capacitors where replaced. It does sound well indeed. The RCA jack on the back is for a "phono" (record player sound input. Sort of an AUX input for 1948. The other 3-hole jack is 120volt AC power for the phono. I would not plug anything that does not resemble a phono into the jack. It will most likely destroy the power transformer and the item plugged into it. Antique Electronics Tubesandmore.com has a schematic for the Truetone (sold in Western Auto stores at the time). It will most likely explain all. Just for fun, try different brands of 6V6GT audio output tubes. You will be surprised how it will change the sound. Tubedepot.com or your local Guitar Center can help with that All the Best! John S.
