Mortal Kombat games have always gotten high scores due to their casual appeal (story mode and tons of content) and accessibility (really easy to pick and play), so to see them score high is not rare because doesn't matter how broken they are, they are fun to play for the casual base. Even if as competitive fighters they die out really fast (within 1 year or 2, while SF games remain the top tournament games). Complex competitive fighting games that are not made by ArcSys (aka anime FGs) don't always get high scores, because they take tons more to pick up and learn and historically have had less "casual friendly" modes like story mode. So to see SF6 score this high in an era where the "standard" of mass casual appeal is MK, it's a great thing.

Capcom won't even put out games that people have been asking for, for years such as a Dino Crisis and Resident Evil Survivor remakes. They do have Retsu and Damnd in this game though (non-playable) so hopefully Capcom will do the right thing and add them as playable characters.

They needed this. Capcom's transformation started with RE7 and MHW. Since then, nothing but hits with DMC5; RE2, 3 &4 remakes & MH Rise. SF6 will probably be their best selling fighting game and with the polish it has right now on launch, we probably gonna have the best fighting game of all time in our hands. It all depends how the game's roadmap does for the next 2-3 years.

I've watched a few reviews of this game now, and, as an interested consumer (who's already pre-ordered the game), I have to commend this review in particular for it's quality, especially with it's succinctness. Of particular note are the nods to fight stick/2 controller compatibility and the background sampling when engaging in World Tour, and the rundown on the game's currency economy and DLC on the horizon. Well done, GameSpot!

I played SF6 open beta with my college buddy who now lives in another city. We used to stay up all night playing SF4 and SF6 brought us right back to those times. SF5 was rough, this really was a breath of fresh air. So hyped.

I can't believe a professional gaming site as legendary as this, made such a silly neglection. You pointed out that the frame rate on World tour battles drops and you didn't realize that in graphics menu of the game that is an option to change between performance and fidelity. Of course in performance mode the game runs at the smooth 60 frames per second in world tour battles. Please try it and you will understand. I think that the best that you guys have to do is to remove this from the cons of the game.

Street fighter 6 is the most fun that I have had with street fighter in awhile. I really like the world tour mode and the entire thing taking place in metro city. The final fight fan is really screaming in me right now.

If you rewound the clock back to September 2015, people were in genuine worry of the franchise. Even myself. But this entry genuinely puts new interest again. Where 5 might have felt like a “halfway” or “upgraded” version of Street Fighter 4, this truly feels different. It doesn’t feel rushed.

I haven't played much of Street Fighter V in a very long time but I was heavily into Super Street Fighter IV. (not to much the Arcade Edition) I wouldn't mind playing Street Fighter 6 though.

Hopefully this is the only version of SF6 that is needed and no Super SF6 or Super SF6 Arcade edition. Its 2023 there's no need for Capcom to milk the Street Fighter franchise by releasing multiple versions of the same game just to make profit. Capcom should just release all old new characters through DLC on this game.

I personally loved SFV with over 1,000 hours in it. I don't need all the features and just like grinding online and the depth of those battles and this is where SFV shined (minus netcode at times). With that said, I welcome features that will drive new players and the core dynamics on this have been so much fun; chief for me is starting with meter and not having the game's main mechanic be a come-back feature requiring having taken damage.

How good the story of World Tour is, is irrelevant when its sheer structure is revolutionary for fighting game campaigns as a whole. It makes Netherrealm’s traditional chapter system look really bad and antiquated in comparison, MK1 won’t be able to compete no matter its story if they don’t evolve its structure.

@@goldenthunder1166 It's Konquest amplified by a thousand, its what Netherrealm should have already been doing with modern consoles but haven't because their current formula is a lot easier and they've had no competition. They don't even bother to make the fights feel more dynamic like Tekken 7 and Battle for the Grid's story modes did, its just cutscene-fight-cutscene-fight, with many fights poorly justified and characters written into corners. And lol at the thought of Armagaddeon's protagonist being any kind of real character with a meaningful plot. Shujinko was always a hybrid avatar character meant to represent the player's progression. I've always loved Deception's Konquest mode, which is why World Tour is what we've needed for a long time. MK1 won't be able to compete without an equivalent mode. It's not revolutionary for games as a whole of course, but for the genre specifically, it's a ginormous leap in established standards. The Battle Hub's functionality is another huge leap in addition to it all as well.

London King Street yeah? There's only one 'King Street' in London, and that's in Hammersmith WL, unless they mean King Road in which traditionally there's been a couple, but it clearly states King Street. My love for Street Fighter started with SF4. Played it so much whenever I felt like it and l enjoyed it. SF5 was a rock bottom for the series and while it was fixed with Arcade and Champion editions I skipped them because of SF5 lackluster launch. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised with SF6.

The "performance issues" you mentioned in world tour are the difference between Quality Mode, which makes fights in world tour 30 fps, and Performance Mode which makes the fights in world tour 60 fps. Sounds like you guys didn't discover Performance Mode in the settings, which would have alleviated any "performance issues" you were talking about.

It feels much slower. SFV everything was plus so everyone was always on the attack. Plus frames in this are fewer so people are more reserved with buttons and then the parry/counter mechanics also lead to more neutral / slower play in my early experience.

On SF5 I made it to Silver Rank and felt like I made progress. I enjoyed it.....but on SF6 when I made it to Silver , I felt frustrated, overwhelmed and defeated. I like the game overall but Ranked matches is impossible . Rather play Tekken 8 and actually have FUN playing a videogame.

Most of the best new age players play on pad. If you have the cash to spare stick or hitbox is fine but you can get just as good on pad with some effort.

@@some_random_guy_mk2 If you're looking for a traditional stick, Qanba is one of the best bang for buck options, particularly the Obsidian. If you're looking for leverless which is seen as superior and more ergonomic by most, Hitbox is the go-to.

No. The downsides of burnout are; no usage of drive mechanics, receiving more blockstun and taking chip damage, and being able to be stunned if you are hit by or block a drive impact in the corner.
