iirc the reason Sawada got a profile is that he's a beloved character in Japan due to being played by an actual notable Japanese martial artist, pretty much As Himself, and within the context of this game its "a bunch of white dudes in shitty Street Fighter cosplay, except also actual martial artist Kenya Sawada is inexplicably in the game for some reason"

It also probably has a lot to do with the "Real Battle on Film" version's moveset making him memetically popular amongst the JP street fighter community, mostly due to shit like /weaponized suppoku/ being added amongst the revamp into making him into a joke character in that one. Seen a LOT of jp players try the arcade version and be really surprised by Sawada being pretty normal in that one.

Raul Julia is in Street Fighter is a kinda bittersweet tale- he knew he was dying at the time, and took the role in part to spend more time with his kids, as he knew they were big fans, and they helped him prepare for the role. His preformance as Bison is considered to be a highpoint of the movie, though unfortunately it was his last role.

I remember reading somewhere that during the production of this movie Jean Claude Van Damme was snorting tons of cocaine, approximately $10,000 worth a week and also had a romantic affair with the actress who played Cammy. They were also filming in Thailand during a tense, political climate (there were rumors of a military coup at the time) which made traveling the streets of the country really difficult. To get around this, the production team, actors, etc all had to travel via canals on boats at strange hours of the night. There were also casting issues, the actor who ended up playing Sawada in the movie was originally cast to play Ryu, until the studio decided they wanted another actor for the role, luckily they wrote the character of Sawada for that actor to play. I think all of this, not to mention Raul Julia literally dying of cancer, led to the absolute hellish production of this movie, the fact that we got something watchable out of it is honestly quite impressive.

Fun fact re Honda being hawaiian in the movie: Hawaii has the second largest sumo wrestling scene in the world, and almost all non-Japanese professional sumo wrestlers come from Hawaii (though their number is still very low since the Japanese sumo association don't want to dilute the sport and has put a hard cap at the number of foreign professionals allowed to be active at a time)

@@v1rtuosoviolinist So they did all the bluescreen shooting for these games after the filming of the movies, hence why bison is a stunt double. he does have *one* move where it's actually raul i think lmao, but his health was too shit by that point. They called every actor in for bluescreen work, and as they went thru the list, t.hawk didnt show up. Confused, they went to look in his trailer. Gone, emptied. T.Hawks actor hated working on the movie so much, he left and didnt even get properly paid for it, in the middle of the Australlian Outback too. He just LEFT. didn't even get paid for most of it I think too.

I got gaslit into thinking they were actually going to bring back Captain Sawada as DLC in Street Fighter V. Capcom does an April Fool's day thing where they put out a game called Neco Drop where you collect cat versions of Street Fighter characters, and the April Fool's after they revealed the final season of DLC besides the final character they included every character in or announced for SFV, plus Sawada. The real final DLC character ended up being Luke, but now I'm going to be wishing for Sawada as DLC for the rest of my life.
