As someone who was really good at MKX, I am getting dominated in this game. I didn't expect it to be so different! I was getting very frustrated with SFV because of the strange timings on a lot of combos. Decided to forget everything I thought I knew and relearn it all! Thanks for the helpful vids, I have already learned a ton! I subscribed so I can hopefully learn more and maybe become mediocre at the game :D

+CZ Productions I'm in the exact same boat. I'm a great Kano player, for instance, but I've gone into SFV like I'm a clean slate. It's frustrating right now. I have my main chosen, and I know her well. However, I can't defeat Normal Survival, and most of my online casual fights I cut my teeth on are losses. They're getting closer to wins, and I'm actually getting wins here and there, but I feel like I have a long way to go. I need a regular sparring partner!

+NESv1 Well, I haven't touched an SF game in twenty years, but my muscle memory's okay on classic characters like Ken/Ryu, etc.. I don't play one-on-ones very often(prefer Ninja Gaiden/Bayonetta, etc.) but I'm enjoying SFV and just getting acquainted with the basics in training. I've missed out on two decades of mechanics and terminology so this guide's excellent, and even though the lack of in-game tutorial is just criminal the actual training set-up is brilliant. Gotta say, I always hated MK :).

Its the same for me, i used to be a kof 2002 medium level player. i have better execution and understanding than most newbs on sf4 but i have decided to start from the basics and learn well. that means, not random jumping, learn to dp react etc. Right now im struggling because i dont now any sf4 begginer as i am (i dont have a ps4 yet) and most online players are rude and think that if they win at you a couple of times you are not worthy to keep playing with.

The idea is you block and analyze your opponent and eventually they will become readable and then you counter. And counter-attacking is a form of defense.
@azzans6 жыл бұрын
I did, my point is counter-attacking is a form of defense.
@azzans6 жыл бұрын
I did, and my point is that throwing a punch or kick can be defensive or offensive depending on context.
@azzans6 жыл бұрын
You don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say. I'm saying you're wrong by definition of the word defense. Blocking is not the only part of defense. That's why Karate is considered a defensive form of fighting, it utilizes counter attacking, a defensive technique. That's what I was arguing, that your definition of defense is wrong.
@rainestar67816 жыл бұрын
Boomer Countermeasure: "A countermeasure is a measure or action taken to counter or offset another one. As a general concept it implies precision, and is any technological or tactical solution or system (often for a military application) designed to prevent an undesirable outcome in the process. The first known use of the term is in 1923.[1]" - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Countermeasure Defensive tactics are useless if you only defend, but countermeasures are a means of defending yourself that involves the direct intervention in an opponent's attack strategy. Countermeasures can involve things that would be normally thought of as offensive options, but are defined by the context that they are only used in defending oneself against attack. This makes countermeasures a defensive strategy using offensive options where the aim is to disrupt an opponent's attack rather than to create an offensive. Self-defense: "Self-defense (self-defence in some varieties of English) is a countermeasure that involves defending the health and well-being of oneself from harm.[1] The use of the right of self-defense as a legal justification for the use of force in times of danger is available in many jurisdictions, but the interpretation varies widely." - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-defense By definition, using attacks while defending to ward off opponent's attempts to defeat you is a viable defensive strategy. In my opinion, it is one of the only viable strategies that are purely defensive.

@gubell27 жыл бұрын
I like the way you explain so detailed and this is real helpful for many beginers like me.thx a lot.
@millefune8 жыл бұрын
Teching a throw "on reaction" is ridiculous. You have to know it's coming. For example, if you and another player were to stand next to each other and have one person throw at a random time they feel appropriate, the person who is supposed to tech the throw will almost never tech it... and that's with the person waiting and expecting it. It's either reads or coincidence (you both go for the throw at the same time) if you tech a throw during a match. They just don't give enough time from when the throw "hits/connects" to when you can respond with a throw input to tech it.
@Maryokutaizero8 жыл бұрын
+Kuya Millefune Yeah, that reminds me of something Skisonic once said on a stream: 'If you crouch you can react to throws because your character stands up without your doing.' Yeah, of course...

it is something you get used to. forward dash throw is very reactable. if they are close its something to think about. yes its fast but there are even tighter windows of executive in street fighter
@tarisco6148 жыл бұрын
Yeah, except your example literally never happens in a game. They usually are fighting at range then dash to point blank, at which point you tech. If it's so impossible to anticipate throws, why is it even average players can get em almost every match?
@PowderedToastMaaaan4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. When you notice a player throws you every time on wakeup you can start to tech it.

Thanks for making these videos, just a few questions I would love to see covered. 1. I noticed you double tap your buttons a lot, is there a reason for this? 2. Why don't you use the L1 and L2 buttons that are default for all the punches or kicks? 3.Is there a resource that shows SFV target combos and chain combos? I can't seem to find any info in the game about which attacks will combo. Thanks for the help!
@HighLanderPonyYT8 жыл бұрын
+MaL01088 1. Just to be sure. 2. Preference and those buttons are probably too far away from the rest. 3. The game isn't even out yet. Things could change, so I guess people haven't bothered making anything like that yet.
@busterswordslash8 жыл бұрын
+MaL01088 He double taps his buttons because it makes it easier to do combos, He doesn't use L1 and L2 because he is accustomed to tapping all three punch or kick buttons, Target combos will be in the command list found in the settings menu while in training mode.

I have a question regarding how I should break out od pressure. When I play online, people will alwayd just keep pressuring me, and i can never get "my turn". The alpha counter isnt really what im looking for, because im already putting it to use, so that isnt what im looking for. What can I do to increase my own pressure game, and how do I play against high pressure?
@kenshi8338 жыл бұрын
Be as agressive as they're that's all I can say from my own personal experience
@ScionOfTheSeventhDawn8 жыл бұрын
Trying to put it simple, if you block a full string you will either be able to punish them or they will back away for a brief moment. Either way the neutral will be reset and you can go to the offense before he does.... or try to put out the right move to beat his move if both go at the same time.
@kenshi8338 жыл бұрын
+Nicolas Frasson what happens if he's jumping like crazy with jumping hk or lk to hurricane kick nonstop I'm having trouble trying to keep up with a Ken I block everything but the stun meter builds up really quick with him
@ScionOfTheSeventhDawn8 жыл бұрын
kenshiwoe You should try to time right an anti air.... if he is pressuring you constantly with jumps in the corner an EX uppercut helps. You could also try to jump and hit him in the air before he does.... Anyway, putting the training dummy to do that pressure and practicing the options on him helps :P
@kenshi8338 жыл бұрын
+Nicolas Frasson Thanks for the tips man appreciate it! My combos for some reason he gets to over power them I'm using Nash btw

How do you defend against R. Mika's command grab if you're stuck in the corner?
@mrcogneetoe8 жыл бұрын
+Hyde1415 If you know the command grab is coming, you can do a neutral jump to avoid the command grab and come down with a heavy normal into a combo. Just be sure to not neutral jump after every knockdown in the corner as it can get predictable. It is a pretty hard hitting option however.
@aspreedacore8 жыл бұрын
+Hyde1415 for chars with command thros or if your throw defense is weak in gernral its best to try to not let them get in at all, can be hard to do on alx and r mika tho for many reasons, I hate throws command throws cant be teched but normal throws can but throws ar too fast to begin with...
@AstroAdj8 жыл бұрын
Do people honestly throw tech on reaction? I always thought it was either a decent read or a case of both players just trying to throw at (almost) the same time. I ask as throw defence is a massive hole in my game and I'm not sure how to improve it!
@samohhTx8 жыл бұрын
+VirageGaming if the person is right next to you when you are on the ground, its possible they are trying to throw you when you get back up. if youre playing someone who is also lower level they will probably try to do it. if they are better they might try to bait you to attempt to tech it by walking back and punishing your whiffed grab (a shimmy). so its a reaction to you being on top of them when theyre knocked down. and a read if you think theyre going to shimmy you.
@AstroAdj8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I get exactly what you mean; I end up guessing whether to try to tech or not when they're on top of me after a knockdown. Been eating a lot of throws lately as just blocking when I rise seems the least risky option, hopefully it's just something that comes with practice!

He's double tapping the buttons, using two fingers to rapidly tap the same button, it gives you a higher chance of getting the timing right.

+BelphegorXVI I thought this game didn't allow you to plink
@BelphegorXVI8 жыл бұрын
+Ragh D It's not the same thing, plinking uses two buttons pressed in two separate frames, but the game only counts the one priority, so it is as if you were pressing the same button twice in 2/60th of a second, which normally would be humanly impossible. Double tapping is an way older technique, you use 2 fingers to quickly press one button, just look at his hand e hear the "tata" sound.

First of all, they can only throw one at a time. Neutral jump(straight up) over it then try walking forward, rinse and repeat. When you get to a distance where a jump Hard would hit, if you know they're gonna throw another one, you jump as they do it and put your foot in their face. You have to teach then to not do it, good luck :-)

@BelphegorXVI8 жыл бұрын
TheDorianTube Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, what I meant by "If you know they are gonna do it" is that you basically have to jump as they start the animation, before their Fireball comes out. That will give you enough time before they recover and mash DP. And depending on the character you use, there are other ways to deal with it, for example Cammy's EX Spiral Arrow goes right through fireballs, her V-skill does the same. You have to explore your character, and also, look for some tutorials on him/her.

There is great irony in this too. Everyone complains that there aren't enough fighters, yet 90% of my matches are against Ryu and Ken. +The Sporki Justin wong refered to evo moment 37 as he got BODIED but I dont think any player will say that full parry into super combo was an easy win for Daigo...

As a noob, I have a little input to offer on why noobs jump so much. Its because noobs play on controller, which is problematic because the angles you have to press the thumbstick are very finicky, and so very, VERY often, when we're trying to walk or dash, we jump just because the angles that cause you to jump, dip so low that accidental input is honestly just too easy. Its so prevelant that in 3 different fighting franchises I've wished for the option to disable jumping altogether, because its just frustrating to be attempting a combo just for your hastened twiddling to cause a jump where you didn't want one. Honestly, my biggest problem with fighters is the lack of dedicated jumping buttons, or in SFV's case, the lack of a jump and a block button. (Not having the option to use a physical button to block is capital R retarded, not everyone can instinctively push the stick in the corresponding direction off of 1/10th a second warning for blocking, and if even slightly mistimed, the game thinks you're trying to move backwards. Noobs need block buttons.

How hard is it to press backwards? It's been like that for over 30 years because it msjes more sense. I've just got into fighting games and it took 30 seconds. The reason noons jump so much is they mash buttons. I look at their hands and they're not thinking what they're pressing.

@@rwentfordable no shit, they don't know what anything does. The hardest part of fighting games is learning all the combos, and worse than that, wtf timing the game expects out of you. That factor alone is why I repeatedly quit after a few days of playing any fighting game, it's not fun playing with people who just take it as a given that you know all that shit, and the game itself doesn't teach you shit because there's no noticable strategy to any of the AI in any of them, and thus, nothing specific you need to learn to beat them, they lend themselves to button mashing, while punishing you for doing it. Nor is there a training mode that literally shows you the timings you have to replicate to do the thing, I see the thing done by a bot, then I stand in a boring as fuck room trying to do the same thing for twenty minutes because I'm either too fast or not fast enough, with no clue which way the game wants me to go.

Gootecks you cannot be serious as to compared SFV to actually fighting which you did, the way you win on SFV is map control (Spacing and Footsies), with crazy amounts of fantasy type shit. Fighting is nothing to do with spacing. Baka.

the defense system sucks in this game
@rwentfordable Жыл бұрын
It's standard defence as in any other fighter? And sf invented the way it's done.

No no no.... Capcom just fucked up with this game. Strayed too far away from its roots.

Jesus, so many beginner mistakes. Why would you not record in-game audio but then leave your speakers on, so your mic records gamesounds with a tin-can quality and a second delay?
