Street fighting is often called "real" fighting, and confused for self defense. But the truth is, street fighting is a sport, even if you don't want to admit it. Today, we find out why.

I agree with your assessment 100%… I like kickboxing and I’ve trained and had a couple of fights in my youth.. and I still spar from time to time… but I avoid street fights like the plague… never been in one never want to be in one.. but at least I know I can block, bob weave, and punch if it came down to it.

When I was a kid, got into an argument with someone, we eventually ended up on the ground. At some point the guy managed to find a pencil on the ground, did a John Wick and stabbed me with it. Some people are just wired that way, doesn't pay to be naive it that kind of situation. Don't ever expect societal rules to play a part.

Not to diminish your situation at all, but that doesn’t exactly refute my point. First off, I address that people can get seriously hurt or killed in street fighting, as obviously there isn’t a ref to jump in and call a time out or foul. But that being said, fighting is fighting. For every person who gets “fouled” in a street fight, there’s equally those who get fouled in a sanctioned bout. My point isn’t that street fighting is some gentlemanly duel between two martial artists, my point is that people glorify street fighting to be the ultimate expression of combat and it simply isn’t.

There was a lot of wisdom in this video. I myself learnt years ago that martial arts that focus on street fighting are not to make you a killing machine. They are merely to INCREASE your chances of survival in the case you are assaulted on the street. If somebody pulls a knife on you and you have been practiced Escrima for years it doesn't mean you have nothing to worry about. An opponent with any kind of weapon HAS ADVANTAGE. Your skills only increase your chances of survival the assault so don't go out and jump into any and every fight against armed opponent. That's delusional. Once you defend the inital attack against weapon you should be getting the hell out of there.

Good advise 👌 Most street trouble makers are not equipped to handle the situation any better than anyone else. I agree 100% to the defense over fighting back. First duty is to avoid, then evade. If necessary, defend. That usually means blicking and footwork to dodgevthose jabs. I myself prefer grapling and throws. But believe me, I'm not a stranger to mutual combat either. Just been awhile 😌. My ability to see the potential threats has increased due to experience.

All of what your saying is true, what I found as well is if someone tries to draw you into a conflict they don't do so unless they think they have a distinct advantage like size or they're 25 years younger than you, otherwise your going to be dealing with more than just that one individual or you may be dealing with a weapon, I'm a strong believer in staying home and minding my own business luckily I'm introvert and over 50 now and a lot of the places a conflict might have occurred I don't even go to anymore, this is probably one of the greatest things about online ordering and working you can avoid a lot of not so nice people.

I really like the breakdown of your vid. Cause you hear it all the time. Guys who train wouldn’t be able to beat a “street fighter” if needed again as you said theory vs practice. Get my ass kicked happily in sparring when I go. Keep up the interesting videos cause at the end of the day it’s about being the best YOU can possibly be.

Go to the South Bronx many street fight and good fighters and some died and some had a nose or eye taken out. A street fight has no rules dude . And work as a CO and then see how the dojo training works in the real word . Seen many martial artist go down in a second .

heres the other side of that, some of us refuse to get into a "street fight" because lets be real, unlike being in a match the rules are loose and not enforced in the moment the same way. some of us WILL draw our weapon and make you choose "life and death, or surrender" because im not gambling on our "rules" being the same or similar enough for me to tolerate. if you want a fight on a casual level with rules that dont include "bring more friends, and bring better weapons" get on a card with me. everyone else gets to meet mr USP and all his 9mm buddies

In a life or death situation, absolutely, escalate if you need to escalate. However, most forms of violence in the US (I'm not sure where you're at, but I'm in the US) are done by people who know each other. Meaning friends/relatives getting into a scuffle, or (more often) a spouse abusing his partner. Point is, more often than not, people who find themselves in "street fights" are not in life or death situations, but in an argument/disagreement that got out of hand, and when it turns lethal, it's because someone reached too soon for a trigger when they didn't need to. Not discounting muggings, gang violence, or random assault out there, but just saying there's a lot more cases of "a small argument got out of hand" than there is "I HAVE TO FIGHT TO THE DEATH"

I try to tell my fellow gun owners that take 2000rounds and $2000 to go off to tactical band camp to learn self defense for a week. that hey you an't a samurai I am. secondly if you pull your gun the 98% figure comes in to play. most often they run so no drawing to mag dumps mr tactical pants. get real I want you to picture a loyer tetherd to every round sent. 00. 9 pellet = a solar system of responsibility. be able to hit what you're aiming at but first I want you running. honestly guys chill.

@@CombatSelfDefense I will add that I'd never try to take people away from getting traing. Thare are lots of grate schools pinkus gunsite thunder ranch on and onn I want people to know how to exsplite cover weapons handling, logistics and a few core techniques but I want people to be real. No need to go 4 times a year. Get airsoft and hang shit next to your punching bag so you can practice realistic draw transitions and realods. Malfunction drills can be done at the range. spare your wallet the ammo and your gun the armor and chill fellas 😆 🤣 tech and techniques both are fungible, 10'000 reps to competence 100'000 to excellence. There's nothing to it we don't already know.

POS who look for street fight do not have the discipline or toughness to train. Their Ego is fragile & could not deal with being bettered regularly. Training makes you aware of weaknesses regularly & you never know who’s packing a devastating back kick, hook, cross etc

Yep, 100% what you said about self defense vs street fighting. Also, please idiots on KZbin, stop saying run away is best form of self defense. Please also note, majority of domestic violence is actually women attacking men, that's why self defense often means not hurting someone.

All you need for a street fight is boxing and judo, I had a handful of fights in my teens and 20's with thugs that outweigh me, I did get hit but the other guy got the sh*t beat out of them.
