What if we could do a Bangkok street food take-over, Gaggan and his team of chefs would cook, we’d organize a pop-up event, and we’d donate the money directly to a food vendor in need?
4 days later, it was happening!
Mae Roti - Her Story: About 10 years ago her husband passed away, and she has raised and supported her 5 kids by selling roti (now selling with her daughter). As soon as we tasted her roti, we knew it was special (green roti), and Chef Gaggan immediately began thinking of what curry it would pair well with.
60 KG. of Beef Rendang Curry - Rendang curry is among the best curries and best single dishes in the world, and thanks to the amazing Chef Rydo ( / rydoanton89 , he along with Chef Gaggan cooked up 60 kg. Of some of the world’s best rendang. It was so incredibly good, so fragrant, rich, full of spice, and it was the perfect accompaniment to fresh hot green pandan roti!
Thank you for your help and support and for coming out in Bangkok. We hope to do events like this, to promote and to support more food vendors.

I used to cook for 10 years professionally. My wife and I travelled all over the world for the past 6 months i think thailand, indonesia are the best food we could possibly have. We loved it. U dont know that actually, a lot of people have private instagrams and dont really put it out there that they have one. They use it to follow and be followed by friends & family only. If you have a chance, watch his Chef's Table episode on Netflix. Guy grew up facing lot of hardships in India and so did his family. At one point when Gaggan was away from home studying/working his family situation was so bad that they didn't have money for electricity at home. Before Gaggan became famous and won the Michelin star and Asia's best restaurant award he also lost his brother who was his biggest motivator and supporter. I wish Gaggan the best of success and hope to eat his food one day.

This is incredible! My husband and I were staying just down the street from where she normally has her food cart and discovered her green roti our first night in Bangkok. It was so delicious we went back the next night- were so bummed we were out of town the day of the event and can’t believe we missed seeing you the day you were prepping for the event! She is definitely a hard worker and there was always at least a few people in line when we went to get some. It set the standard for roti for us and is hard to beat for sure! Kudos to the team, you all did an amazing job to organize this event in order to help the vendor’s lady and her beautiful daughter who is working hard and helping her Mom to raise their family. I've discovered Mark while at home quarantining for the COVID19 pandemic. All of his videos have been amazing and I can't wait for this to pass so I can start traveling. In the meantime, I could not make to it to Thailand to visit Mae's stall as much as I would like to. This was the most amazing video of all. I am sure that I am like many of your subscribers that would like to have attended this event. Perhaps Mark can start a GOFUNDME campaign or something like it for Mae and her family. I would promise to donate $100 U.S. to get things started. Maybe with enough donations, Mae could open a little restaurant as I had seen with another person running a street stall. If enough of us comment that want to help, I am sure the message will get back to Mark.
