Thanks Mark. What a great video, as usual ! Your knowledge and insight into real Vietnamese culture and the changes going on in Viet Nam are without equal, as well as an obvious deep love and respect for the people. Keep up the good work.

The couple at the end made my heart melt! Love that you speak fluently and give us a glimpse of VN with your videos. I'm American Vietnamese and look forward to visiting VN one day. That banh cuon looked perfect.

I'm trying to learn some Vietnamese right now for an upcoming return trip, it's SO DIFFICULT! But I know that if I really try and practice it'll make my experience that much better.

My vocabulary improved by 50% everyday that I'm there. If you put in the effort, you'll learn quickly. But I do forget quickly between my trips to VN :(

Do you have any tips for learning? Do you use any specific books or videos? I'm mostly learning through KZbin videos right now and making flash cards to help remember words and phrases.

It's 6am in western Canada where I am and I'm thinking how much better some Hanoi street food looks right now than my bowl of cereal... When I was in Hanoi a few years ago they were saying that the government was cracking down on street vendors, I'm glad to see they're still at it and adapting to the situation.

why did you say there won't be any more places like this in Hanoi sometime soon? is the government cracking down on sidewalk eateries like this? thanks
@rustycompasstravel6 жыл бұрын
There have been crackdowns - then they reappear. But it seems unlikely that they'll survive another decade or so. No imminent new threats as far as I'm aware.

"Tay" means French person in vietnamese.
@rustycompasstravel7 жыл бұрын
Actually "Tay" means "West" in Vietnamese - in this case "Westerner".

Mark, are you fluent in Vietnamese? Can you get around without having to speak English? I've watched a few of your videos.
